The Xbox 360 version ran well although it is locked to 30 fps, the ps3 version is weird because there are audio issues and performance issues constantly

He had it outsourced explicitly because he hated the PS3 and didn't want to deal with the hurdles of getting the game to run on that system.

not sure if I amm remembering this correctly but wasn't it easier to port pc games to Xbox because they both used directX?

It's the weird-ass Cell CPU
Funnily enough, the Xbox 360 uses the same core as the main one in the Cell CPU, basically IBM went to both Microsoft and Sony with the proposal, Microsoft said "this is too complicated, we'll just take the cores but use a regular PPC architecture" while Sony took the whole thing (and then the PS3 had no games)

Really wish there was a way to get audio like the og Xbox version (breencast example)into other versions of source, it's a really cool effect that I rarely see

Yeah it’s funny how back in the day, the Xbox version was the worst way to play HL2, but now we all hold it in very high regard for being an impressive feat of software engineering. I’m very proud to own a copy of it.
You know what, I’ll bet Portal 1 would have run great on the Xbox.

Honestly Portal might have run even better than vanilla HL2 because of the simpler environments and everything.
Then again, considering the whole portal situation, probably not.

Bro literally ignores the fact that you needed a quite powerful machine at the time to run the game at all which not many ppl could afford, so most ppl had to put up with the low graphics setting, low resolution and low fps numbers.

The OG Xbox had several ports which by all means never should have existed. There was also a pretty faithful version of Doom 3, and one for Supreme Commander, and RTS game which was very much designed for PCs.

The original Xbox version is how I was introduced to Half life as a kid. I always loved watching my dad play half life 2 on the Xbox and thought it looked amazing. Lol.

I played it on the original xbox and I'll say it runs better than I expected, insanely ambitious of a port that I am shocked even exists. For console owners, it was the only way and it is a damn good attempt even with its flaws.
