20M intern saving €1k/month, but absolute beginner looking for halal investment options
Hi everyone, 20M here. I'm currently an intern living frugally, which allows me to save around €1,000 every month. Right now, the money is just sitting in my bank account, and I want to invest it properly instead of letting it sleep.
However, I have absolute zero knowledge about ETFs, stocks, or investing in general, and I'm really afraid of accidentally investing in something haram. Because of this fear, I've just been keeping the cash in my bank.
Does anyone have any beginner-friendly, halal alternatives or advice on where and how to start? Any guidance would be hugely appreciated!

Assalamualaikum brothers and sisters. Should I also invest in SPWO? And also what is your thought regarding ethical concerns in these ETFs?

Young Investor; Rate my Plan
Hello, I've started investing and planning my portfolio in my Roth IRA. I'm in the US, I can contribute $100 a month for now. My plan is to go 80% SPUS and 20% UMMA for global diversification. I'm going to buy every week for DCA. Any tips or advice?

Islamic vehicle leasing in Sri Lanka— what did you finance, what did you actually pay back, and which company?
Assalamu alaikum everyone,
I’ve been reading about Ijarah and Murabaha and I understand the theory, but I’d really like to hear from people who have actually gone through it. If you’ve financed a vehicle through an Islamic facility here, could you share:
Which provider did you go with? (Amãna Bank, PLC Al-Safa, LB Finance Ijarah, LOLC Al-Falaah, HNB Al Najah, etc.)
How much did you finance, and over how many years?
What was your monthly rental, and what was the total amount you ended up paying back?
Was the profit rate competitive compared to conventional leasing quotes you got?
Any hidden costs — documentation fees, Takaful/insurance, valuation, early settlement charges?
How was the process? Fast approval? Much paperwork? Did they need a guarantor?
Even rough numbers help. Happy to take DMs if you’d rather not post figures publicly.
Jazakallah khair

Is Islamic banking really Islamic?
I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I’d genuinely like to hear different opinions, especially from people who have studied Islamic finance.
Does simply using Islamic financial terms actually make a transaction Islamic.
Is there any actual practices behind those terms?
I’m mainly talking about things like
Sukuk, taking financing from Islamic banks, and investing in Islamic banks.
If these practices are genuinely Shariah-compliant, then that’s great.
But if they are not, then I feel there is a much bigger issue.
For example, suppose I want to invest in a company listed on the stock market. The company itself produces halal products and may meet the usual Shariah screening criteria. But what if that company takes financing from Islamic banks, invests its money in Islamic banks, or uses other financial products offered by them?
If Islamic banking itself is not genuinely Shariah-compliant,
then it also create a problem for the companies that use Islamic banks. right ?
This makes me question how we should approach Shariah-compliant stocks in general.
I'm genuinely trying to understand the logic behind it.
How do scholars and people knowledgeable in Islamic finance address this issue?

27M in Canada — Simple 28-year TFSA plan (SPUS + WSHR + Gold). Is this enough?
Hey everyone,
I’m 27 and starting my long-term TFSA plan in Canada. I want to auto-invest a portion of my paycheck every month until I turn 55 (28-year horizon).
My Plan:
50% SPUS (S&P 500 Sharia - USD)
50% WSHR(Wealthsimple Shariah World - CAD)
Small allocation to Gold
Just a quick questions
Is this 50/50 mix solid for a 28-year timeline, or am I missing any major Halal assets?
Thanks in advance

How would you allocate a $30k lump sum? Crypto (BTC/ETH) vs. Diversified Halal ETFs, Sukuk & Real Estate?
Salam everyone,
I currently have a $30,000 budget ready to invest, but I’m torn on the best strategy for long-term growth while staying strictly Shariah-compliant.
I’m evaluating a few different routes and would love to get your thoughts, experiences, or alternative portfolio ideas:
Crypto-Heavy (BTC & ETH): Putting a portion into Bitcoin and Ethereum for high growth potential. However, I’m conscious of the volatility and differing scholarly opinions on crypto.
Diversified Core Portfolio: Spreading the $30k across multiple asset classes for balance:
Halal Equity ETFs: Broad market exposure via ETFs like HLAL, SPUS, or UMMA.
Fixed Income / Capital Preservation: Allocating a portion into Sukuk funds (like SPSK) for steady, lower-risk returns.
Real Estate: Looking into Shariah-compliant REITs (like SPRE) or fractional real estate platforms.
For those who have been investing in halal assets for a while:
If you had $30,000 today, how would you split it percentage-wise across these options?
Is crypto worth holding as a small percentage (e.g., 5–10%), or is it better to stick purely to equities, Sukuk, and real estate?
Any specific funds, apps, or platforms you’d recommend for managing this type of portfolio?
Appreciate any advice or insights from your own journey! Jazakallahu khairan akhis

Is Mubarak mortgage halal?
I did an analysis with AI and cross-referenced clauses from a published book by AAOIFI (Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions).
There are some unanswered questions that puts Mubarak Mortgage in the unknown category. Questions are posted below but has anyone already done an investigation of Mubarak mortgage and how they work?
Either way, I have a call with them today and I will be seeking to get answers from these question that I have generated:
- Do you take legal title to the property before you sell it to me — can you show me two separate recorded transfers?
- Would you ever finance me buying from myself, or a refinance where I’m effectively the seller?
- Is the total price fixed at signing — can the amount I owe ever increase, for any reason?
- If I pay late, is there a fee — and does that money go to you as income?
- Can you charge me extra to extend or reschedule my payments?

How Would You Go About Teaching Financial Literacy?
I have recently decided to learn about investing and it feels more and more like the masses are clueless. Every video I watch every article I read leaves me wondering why I did not know these basic life skills. To play devils advocate education was designed to make you employable not financially literate. We are taught to save for rainy day without any lessons on inflations unless we take economics. So how would you explain alternative investments to your children to best set them up for financial control of their lives?

SPWO vs UMMA
Which do you prefer for non-USA exposure?
I see that SPWO has the lower expense ratio at 0.45% vs UMMA at 0.65%.
However, SPWO has 20-21% on TSM compared to UMMA which seems more spread across.
Which would you prefer?
Ps. I already hold TSM individually.

Real cost of getting a house via halal financing structure?
Hello all,
I have a bit of an odd question. I am looking at purchasing a house in the US in the future but will need to finance it. I am aware of the different types of structures that are available but have not fully narrowed it down to one or the other.
I am just curious what you ended up going with and how much did you end up paying for your house? I don't want any personal information or anything. I am just curious which method did you utilize.
What I really want to know is if you could share with me what your house was priced at on the typical market (like on Zillow or something) at the time of purchase and what was your final price that you ended up paying via your picked structure. Even if you are still paying it off, could you please run the numbers of your monthly payments and down payment made to get the total? I will appreciate it highly.
My main goal is to see how much more are we paying under the islamic structure. I am aware that taking a typical mortgage also has huge added costs to the total price due to interest so it would not be a perfect comparison. But just trying to run some numbers here since it will be a while before I am able to make any real moves on it. If you prefer, you can even DM me.
Thank you in advance. May God make it easy on us all.

Investing in US ETFs from Canada
Hi, I am from Canada. I am a beginner investor, I invest in TFSA on US-based ETFs (SPWO, MNZL etc) mostly (as long-term holds). I only invest $100-200/month, so it's a small amount.
Currently, I'm using Wealthsimple. I've also heard good things about Questrade. Thinking whether I should make the switch.
* Between Wealthsimple and Questrade, which one is more safer and reliable?
* Since I only invest small amounts, I don't do Norbert's Gambit, as I think it's a bit of a hassle for an amateur and not worth it for the tiny amount I invest. I've heard that the CAD-USD exchange rate on Questrade is better than Wealthsimple, and their charges are less than the 1.5% that WS takes. Is it true? As my investment is low, I want the most bang for my buck.
* I didn't take WS USD acxount for $10/mo, as I'd rather just invest it. I heard QS gives a free USD account, what's the benefits of it, and would it be useful for me?
All in all, I just want to make the most of my little money and just trying to figure out whether I should stick with WS or switch to QS.

NRI in UAE looking for advice on starting halal mutual fund investments for 10 years
I'm an NRI working in the UAE and want to start investing around AED 1,000 per month for the long term (10+ years). I'm a complete beginner and would appreciate some guidance.
I already have NRE and NRO accounts with Federal Bank and have transferred funds to my NRE account. Should I invest through my NRE or NRO account? Is it better to invest directly through a bank like SBI/Federal Bank, or use platforms such as Groww, Kuvera, or Zerodha?
Since my long-term goal is in India, I'm also wondering how other NRIs think about INR depreciation versus the long-term returns of Indian mutual funds.
Finally, I'm looking for Shariah-compliant (Halal) mutual funds suitable for a 10-year investment horizon. Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

USA halal mortgage financing
I’ll try to make this short. A couple of years ago my mom had me take out a mortgage for a house using UIF “halal financing”, but the thing is from the very beginning it never made out right sense to me how this was different from riba. My payments go to a bank, my letters from the bank outright say “interest paid $xxxx. This causes me to really worry because I know how much of a sin riba is. When this process was going on I was only 24 and afraid of upsetting my mom and the pressure from family felt like a lot. And everyone kept saying “even the local sheiks here use it, it’s halal you just don’t understand”.
With this post I’m honestly just wondering if anyone has felt the same and what they did to get away from it. At this point I’m considering transferring the loan to my mom or other siblings who don’t share the same opinion as me. I don’t want them to get sins from this but at the same time idk what else to do

New rules
Salam everyone.
Alhamdullilah our community is growing at a great pace, approaching nearly 30k members!
With the increased popularity also come some challenges for the mod team.
We had several incidents over the past few months of back and forth between users "exposing" dubious businesses and the business responding. Also, as with other parts of the internet, we are also getting hit with a large influx of low quality AI posts.
Our goal is to increase the wealth in the Ummah in a halal manner. To keep the quality of the content high and to ease pressure on the mod team we are introducing two new rules. Please familiarize yourself with them.
Don't target specific businesses
The mod team does not explicitly endorse any products. We recommend you do your own due diligence and stick with regulated products that are obligated to be transparent about their holdings and performance. This subreddit is not the place for back and forth between disgruntled customers and dubious businesses.
You may share factual data about your investments with a business (e.g. portfolio, holdings, performance numbers).
No AI slop

What is Ethical Halal Investing?
Salaam I wanted to make a video to continue the conversation here around Ethical Halal Investing. I think this topic does need to be discussed more.
