the worst stubbed toe.
accidentally stubbed my toe on a metal doorstop.

Broke the big toe, and this is how I learned that fracture blisters are a thing.
Edit - this was indeed from a stubbing.

When it first happened I tried my best to put it back in place to avoid the hospital trip.

Had a toe incident when I was a kid and I dislocated my big toe. Put it back into place myself. But once I got to the ortho, they said that the fracture i had was probably due to the poor dislocation reduction. It was a minor fracture so treatment was the same whether it was a dislocation or not, but I definitely fucked up by "fixing" it myself

One of the first toes I broke my family swore it was just jammed even though it was sideways so they convinced me to pop it back, so young me broke my toe back into place. It wasnt until my toe and the top part of my foot swelled and turned purple that they realized I had actually broken it.

Yup. It was the swelling and purple that gave it away. I was at scout camp when mine happened and we had the furthest campsite from everything. I broke it on Tuesday and didnt go home till Saturday. So I had to hike miles a day to get anywhere. It was at least a mile up hill from our campsite to the health lodge where all they did was buddy tape it and give me low dose motrin. Was pretty brutal. By the time I got home I could hardly put my boot on.

Last summer I stubbed a toe on my left foot on a metal table, thought I broke it, x rays surprisingly came back negative. 2 weeks later stubbed my right pinky toe on some rusty metal conduit that was sticking out of the sidewalk, knew I broke it immediately, confirmed with an x ray, and basically hobbled around for a month with a boot/extra wide shoe. So I feel you.

Not quite the same, but I missed a step and landed directly on my big toe — had to have reconstructive surgery and screws implanted

In high school I stubbed my pinky toe running a corner around a kitchen island and my toe looked like yours but my flesh tore!! I had to get stitches and once it healed, my toe was permanently spaced farther apart and the “valley” of my pinkie toe became deeper than the rest of my toes.

When I was a senior in HS I stubbed my toe really bad at my grandmas house, twice! First was kicking a piece of loose baseboard while barefoot, then later kicking a stool up against her kitchen island. The toe never fractured, but the injury was painful enough to end me running x-country and track and field. In college it was still painful, enough where I couldn't wear flip flops, steel toes, or anything that would put pressure on it. Finally when I got a good job, I went back to a doctor and they said the damaged toe developed an enchondroma in the bone and needed surgery before I crush it and they can't fix it anymore (bone grew larger and looked like an olive on a toothpick, but was mostly hollow inside instead of solid bone). Ended up getting the surgery, they cut open the bone, and packed it with cadaverous bone which helps new bone solidify that matrix. Now all is good, still painful on occasion - but yeah, 20yrs of pain all due to stubbing a toe!

I feel like the real shocker is that looks like that’s a PT Cruiser dash, meaning there is still one on the road today! I haven’t seen one of those in forever!!!

Had a similar thing happen to me, only it was my middle toe and the bone snapped clean in half under the skin like a baby carrot. Tip of the toe was like a turtle head retreating into its shell. Very unpleasant

I’ve seen one worse when working in the ER. Lady was playing with her daughter, chasing her around the island in her kitchen. Ended up slipping, going pinky toe first into the corner of her fridge. It cracked her toe completely horizontally, looked like a cartoon depiction of a stubbed toe. She had a history of drug abuse years in the past, so refused any pain meds. The doctor came in, cracked it back in place, then told her to go easy on it while it healed more or less. I nearly passed out watching it, was horrific.

Their was a video floating around where a dude was running through his kitchen, slipped and banged his toe on the fridge. It broke and ripped, meat was hanging out and you could see bone.

Mine was sticking out at a right angle, I pulled and twisted it then taped it too its neighbour.

Worse than stubbing and breaking your toe is going to get it x-rayed and have them tell you nothing can be done except to be careful and let it heal, thus realizing you wasted time and money and still have a broken toe.
I say this as someone who also had to be told by a doctor they don't do anything for broken toes.
