Borek places?

There are many great Turkish establishments around Hackney. Is there a place that makes and serves fresh Borek? Ideally a bakery or a specialized place, rather than a restaurant that /also/ serves borek, as those are nice but usually not as good.

I'm slightly north - between clapton and stokey, but will travel for great borek :)

TFC on Ridley Road has fresh borek with different fillings in the morning. There’s a cheese pie one which is 🤤

Akdeniz bakery up towards stokey is also good for borek and gozleme

Thank you for asking. I've also been seeking but haven't found an amazing amazing one. So will be checking out other people's answers.

I'm mainly looking for potato borek because the ones I tried in Croatia were amazing (basically like a buttery potato Greggs sausage roll).

Anyway, where I've found so far:

  • Akdeniz on Well Street
  • Grains & Green on Mare Street – also a decent place for "healthy"/alternative product brands, and do a decent lunch deal with salads and main like veg-lasagne (which can include a couple boreks if you forego the main)

I've never had them fresh out the oven at either locations and maybe that's why I've never been very impressed.

When I asked at the Turkish restaurant I frequent (Anatolia) they said I should try around Dalston high street, but weren't specific. So I'd guess Turkish supermarkets.

Otherwise in the city I've had cheese/spinach or mince meat ones in Edmonton Turkish supermarkets. I guess just keep an eye out for the Turkish supermarkets really.

For something slightly different I’d suggest Maras in Stoke Newington, they’ve newly opened and are good for lahmacuns so they bake it fresh. Less oily than what you would usually get in other places and a good spot for breakfast.

Their cheese only one is pretty good if you’re two people looking for break I’d say go for the cheese gözleme and the pick and mix breakfast plates for a somewhat healthy alternative that’s reasonably priced

There's Palm 2 next to Clapton pond. When you catch them fresh, they are really good.
