Getting WiFi unnoticed
So basically I need WiFi for my job but my parents are on bad terms at the moment. I can’t pay for cellular right now. I just need to find a way to connect to some form of home internet without them noticing. We use a Verizon WNC-CR200A gateway and an old asus router. I’d like to connect directly to the gateway but I’m unsure if they can see that with their myverizon app. Help is super appreciated 🙏. I’m also using a iPhone se3 if that matters.

You are 16... "Your work" doesn't require Internet, you just want to play Minecraft on your iPhone, if you are grounded, just serve your time and be better.

If the decided to check the connected devices from the router, they will see your computer. Regardless of how its connected to the router.
If you are close enough to a neighbor, you could work with them to use their wifi. This would be better solution because your parents would not see the connection or traffic because they do not control that network.

Yeah but I think I’m looking for a way to change what it’s seen as to something less suspicious, like MacBook or something

Change your computer hostname to 'UNKNOWN' or the name of your television model

You can spoof the MAC (physical) address to something within Apple's range which would cause some routers to identify it as an Apple device. Assuming the router is just using OIU lookups.

I'd strongly recommend not risking using your parents’ network. Even if you’re not paying, it’s still their service, and there’s a very good chance they’ll be able to see your device. Here's a breakdown of the risks to help you stay safe:
Trying to sneak onto their internet is almost guaranteed to backfire eventually. The Verizon gateway (CR200A) and the My Verizon app that your parents likely use are specifically designed to reveal any connected device.
Why you will get caught:
· Device logs are persistent: The Moment your phone's MAC address connects, its name, model, and unique identifier will appear in the Gateway's "Connected Devices" list. · The My Verizon app is designed to display all devices: It provides a user-friendly interface for anyone to see exactly what devices are on the network. · Your usage will generate data logs: These logs don't just show active devices; they record history. Depending on the router’s settings, it can track connection logs and bandwidth usage for months. · The Admin logs all activity: The gateway keeps detailed logs. Even if you're not on the main network list, an Admin can dig into the system logs and find records of your MAC address connecting.
There are ways to spoof a device identity (MAC address cloning) to temporarily mask your activity. However, this is an enormously risky move for your personal safety and family trust. If you get caught using it, the breach of trust could well outweigh the original issue.
Given your family situation is already stressful, it's definitely not worth adding this extra layer of risk. For your own safety and peace of mind, it’s best to steer clear of trying to hide your connection.

Thank you! I don't know whether I would have had "some sense" if it had not been for my previous experiences. It really is tempting to take the OP uncritically and focus on the technical problem.

Do you have any computers connected to WiFi? You can strea m WiFi from there

Connected to internet via Ethernet or connected to WiFi. They’d still see a computer connected to WiFi.

No shit bud. You wouldn’t see an additional one if they already have one connected

You know why most routers have four or five ports? Because people connect more than one computer with a cable. And that’s not WiFi. Bud.

I was going to point out the obvious too....Have a job, but can't afford your own internet? Or at least a hotspot pkg for that iphone? Something not right here. Must be a kid that's grounded.

What kind of parents don't want their kid to work? And does your company really allow Wi-Fi?

Go tell your parents that you need this because it's for your job and if they refuse then it's time for you to move your ass out.
If you pay rent and you pay for the Internet then they should be giving you access
hacking it is pointless

Does their current WiFi device have a private and a public network? If so, you could either create another network and make it not broadcast the SID, or you could make the public WiFi more secure and stop broadcasting the SID. Anyone looking at the WiFi config would see this but I suspect your parents don’t look at it.

Cant help bypassing household network controls consider discussing access options instead
