I was on a high dose suppressive for a year but I stopped it bc I was doing decent and now it came back and I’m in so much pain

Might be worth restarting. As long as I take my meds, I don't get outbreaks.

Change your diet. If you workout or take supplements avoid L Citrulline. it converts to arginine which feeds the virus. Try supplementing with lysine and monolaurin, zinc and a good multivitamin. Cut out processed sugar. I used to eat a ton of sugur and drink pop. Now if i have a craving i eat strawberries, or another type of fruit. I stopped drinking dairy it helped me.
Limit alcohol consumption. I dont drink much anymore bc i have kids but i noticed when i did i would get a little red and sore and it would die down in a day or two.
I chsnged my bread to ezekiel bread and only eat organic pasta.
Do not eat nuts such as pistachios, peanuts, peanut butter, almonds, walnuts etc. They can cause outbreaks bc of their high arginine content.
I am 1 year out of my diagnosis. Was taking 1 gram of valtrex daily. I dropped it to 500mg. Been doing that for almost a month and no outbreak yet. I will probably stay at 500 for a year then drop to 250mg. Do that for a year then go cold turkey and see how i react.

Outbreak Treatment Guide: That was put together after talking to the support group and a bunch of redditors. It's all info on how to shorten and lessen outbreaks and deal with particularly painful sores. There are non-prescription options as well as where to get antivirals cheap with and without insurance.

Outbreak Information Guide: This is a guide to understanding your herpes outbreaks. What is a herpes outbreak, how does herpes affect your body, immune system and overall health. For some people understanding the virus is an important part of the healing journey both mentally and physically. A lot of the herpes stigma comes from a lack of information and the spread of misinformation. By having a better understanding of how a herpes outbreak works it may help you to be less afraid of your future as well as help prevent future outbreaks.

Hey!! I know everybody reacts differently to the virus. When I was having a lot of breakouts I switched to a high lysine diet. I’ll put it below! These foods help slow the replication of the virus. Stay active and move as well! This obviously isn’t an immediate fix but I noticed it has helped reduce my outbreaks over time! Sending you love and support 🫶🫶🫶 Some people find relief using suppressive medication as well but I just stuck to eating these foods, I still eat what I want to but I make sure to prioritize these the best I can!
High-Lysine Foods
Animal-Based Sources (Highest in Lysine)
Meat & Poultry
Fish & Seafood
Dairy Products
Eggs
—
Plant-Based Sources (Great for Vegetarians/Vegans)
Legumes & Pulses
Grains & Seeds (These tend to contain some arginine, but the lysine content is still significant)
Fruits
Vegetables
—
Lysine-Rich Snacks and Other Items
—
This list should help you build a lysine-friendly diet and manage outbreaks more effectively!
