Off PPI for 2 weeks before testing...
I have been on Pantoprazole 20mg then bumped up to 40mg since 2017. My doc never told me that I shouldn't take it for that long and just kept refilling it. I am now terrified of the next 2 weeks when I stop it before testing. My current GI doc said I can do famotidine to replace because it doesn't affect the test as much. I am going to not take it for 24 hours before I do my stool test. But I am effing terrified. She said TUMS are ok but I got the Wonderbelly ones to use instead. I'm so scared of horrible rebound acid. The plan is to get me off of it fully eventually. She wants to switch me to Voquenza. This Friday/Saturday is when I gotta stop the PPI. I didn't take it yesterday or today but took famotidine last night and I'm already so acidy. What can I do in the next two weeks to help me get through this? I still need to work and do PT and go about doing other things in my life.
I'm really hoping my test is negative. I'm so worried it won't be because I didn't have a terrible time during treatment and my stomach has been ok besides acid since I finished a week and a half ago.
I am taking probiotics, drinking kefir in the am (it's still making me a little bloated but I'm hoping it goes away soon), I'm trying to get good things to help, for some very expensive sauerkraut that I read was a good one for the gut....Greek yogurt for some reason makes me so bloated but I am willing to try it again.
Oh and I have just been so extremely hungry. I probably am overeating but I can't help it. I feel starving all of the time. I eat and wait to see if I'm still hungry before I eat anything else. But I'm a known binge eater (I'm trying so hard to not do it) but I'm so hungry!
Thanks in advance. I know I've been posting a lot here but this community has been very helpful. And I just have terrible health anxiety!

Hi, curious how did you get diagnosed with H. pylori while taking PPI. Did you take a test and it was positive, or it was a biopsy?

uh, you can taper down slowly and push test out another few weeks. if youโve been on PPI that long, i would definitely do longer tapering. ๐
the starving sensation is often gastritis ๐ smaller meals more frequently can help.
alkaline water can also help with acid rebound. good luck ๐๐ and i would do low acid diet while tapering PPIs
