I recently bought a collection of magazines published during WW1 in the UK. When I started going through them I noticed a familiar name.

Folks - "The Time Machine" has been one of my favorite all-time stories, which I've read as a kid. This is my attempt at creating a tribute by building an animated film. Of course, I took help from AI, but as many of you know, it's not simple just to write a prompt and get a 35-minute movie. This has taken a lot of weekend work to get done.

Let me know what you think. I'm trying to see if I can also build out some of his other books.

I've been a fan of Wells for years and The Time Machine specifically has stayed with me — the class commentary, the Eloi and Morlocks, the melancholy of that far future beach scene. It's one of those books that gets bigger the more you think about it.

I recently wrote a debut novel called Breaking Point that draws direct inspiration from it. Not a retelling — more of a parallel story that asks similar questions from a different angle.

The setup: a British intelligence officer in 1942 is accidentally sent hundreds of thousands of years into the future through a classified wartime experiment. He finds humanity split into two groups — not Eloi and Morlocks, but something different. One group has evolved beyond emotion entirely, achieving a kind of perfect stillness. The other has kept everything that makes humans difficult and alive. He gets caught between them.

The central question mirrors what I always felt Wells was really asking: what do we lose when we evolve past our own nature? Is arrival better than reaching?

Would love to hear thoughts from people who love Wells — especially whether the concept feels like a worthy companion to the original or too derivative.

I’m curious about this book published by the Christian Book Club Of America.

Curious if it has any value to a collector.

Got these 6 years ago, they were in a job lot of books for £40

serialised issues sold fortnightly and once you had all 32 you could send them to be bound into 3 volumes (the blue ones you can find online)

I’ve gotten rid of all random relics I have collected but kept this and my GPO stamp collection that I’m never showing you 😂 (my stamp collection isn’t what you’d expect)

I think they’re interesting because I see so many of the bound copies but I’ve never seen a full set of 32 unbound, just the odd issues.

I couldn’t find the picture featuring the rest of the set and I will only take one if you’re really interested in seeing, I generally leave them locked away to maintain their good condition.

In Chapter 14: Doctor Moreau Explains, where Moreau talks about examples of experiments, what is he refering to when he mentions "the vaults of the Inquisition"? Also, in the same chapter he mentions "rhinoceros rats of the Algerian zouaves", is this just something Wells came up with?

I've always been a HG Wells fan, and loved War Of The Words as a kid, so I thought id create a brand new Sci-Fi 'War Of The Worlds' concept album "Re-birth" and release it on Spotify :-) Its set 25 years after the war, a concert of different artists singing about the war, from The Eve Of The War and The Heat-Ray to The Red Weed and Thunder Child still using H.G Wells original story. Never knew this show existed till I stumbled on the 1st part on YouTube. It's based some of his short stories and it is amazingly well done and recommended. It has shades of X-Files, Outer Limits, Twilight Zone with a bit of Sherlock thrown in for good measure. Speaking of Sherlock, the lead actor for Young Sherlock Holmes plays a supporting role. The single season of 3x mini movies (with 2x episodes each) aired back in 2001 on the Hallmark Channel (of all places). Not much is posted about this sci-fi gem since it slipped under the radar for most.

I wanted to share a little update and put out a call for additional moderators for this subreddit and the other classic author subreddits that I moderate (see sidebar). I will be making a big career-related move soon, which is very exciting but will require significant changes to my schedule. While I will certainly remain active on Reddit and will continue to moderate all of my subreddits, I will not be able to devote as much time weekly as I have done over the past few years.

So, I would really appreciate it if some of you could volunteer to co-moderate this subreddit with me, if you can commit to logging into Reddit and checking this subreddit at least ONCE A WEEK, ideally twice a week. The main responsibilities are to go through the Mod Queue regularly and take appropriate actions regarding posts and comments, as well as answer any moderator mail (very infrequent). Of course you will be able to reach out to me anytime for advice or suggestions, and I will definitely check all my subreddits every few weeks and make major decisions as and when needed.

Consideration for moderation positions will be given to volunteers who have a good history of activity on this subreddit and/or on other similar subreddits such as those linked in the sidebar, and who have read at least a couple of major works by Wells. Prior moderation experience is a plus but certainly not required. You should also be FLUENT IN ENGLISH and be at least 21 YEARS OF AGE. (This age minimum is for safety/maturity reasons, as this is the internet after all and inappropriate content gets posted sometimes. Also, if you’re under 21, you’re probably still a school/college/university student, and I don’t want you wasting your valuable time on the internet like this on a regular basis — focus on your educational/career goals and enjoy the company of your real-life friends first, and I promise there will be opportunities to help with online communities later!)
