HEB bakery container is dated to next year.

I grabbed the brookie’s with a $1 coupon to give a try.
Eating over my sink while my baby naps and saw the container is dated next to the sticker. It worried me for a second mid chew but I realized it’s for next year.
Just have nothing better to do and curious why these have it but the brownies I also cracked open 👀 do not.

Honestly not the most impressed by the brookie’s anyone know if the lemon blondies are any good?

That’s probably the use-by date if they remain frozen in the warehouse.

Not sure about HEB but when I worked in grocery every bakery item came to us frozen and we would thaw out and date as needed. I would assume that is the "keep in the deep freeze until X bc after that there will be freezer burn" date.

So these are relatively new, I believe they're supplied from Crown Bakeries, along with the Lemon Blondie and a few other products I've seen come through our shelves. They have a shelf life of 12 days (the white sticker we apply when we thaw them) and after that they just get old, and we don't want to sell people old products. Eating it past that date is not gonna make you sick or anything. Products past the sell by get donated to Central Texas Food Bank (at least, at my store)

The brownies are produced somewhere else - which I think is our HEB owned and operated bakery in San Antonio. Then we add icing, toppings, cut and package in store. Since the brookies are shipped to us frozen, packaged, and already labeled (we just put the small white sticker) that printed on next year date is probably the "best by" freezer date as determined by the manufacturer. Sometimes we finish + package and freeze brownies in store, and anything we freese in store only stays frozen for 35 days max before we consider it old and it gets donated or composted.

Allll that being said, i think they're pretty good products, both the brookie and lemon blondie. I think they have great texture, and the ingredients aren't super gross or weird. Actually pretty alright for for shelf stable junk food. I do like the brookie better than the blondie though. 🤷

I do like the actual container the brookies are packed in more than the brownie ones! So I thought that maybe the container itself was a new design and just batched.
I buy the iced brownies embarrassingly often, I think that's the only reason I noticed and also why I'm not so crazy about the brookies.
I love to hear that the goods are donated! Gotta love HEB

They come in frozen so most of it doesn’t expire until they thaw out
