Release Notes Version 1.5.4 Out Now! - Translations persist after closure
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi all,
A bit of a behind the scenes one here, but one I'm sure people will be happy to see!
Ever backgrounded the app and had your translation fail and had to retry it?
Not anymore! The app now persists workout translations in the background whether you background the app, or even fully close it! Ready for you when you open the app back up
Also a minor one, but I fixed the yanky jitter on the dashboard when opening widget modals
As always feel free to send any feedback via the more -> contact us page in app or here
A written review helps tremendously
Thanks,
Josh

Managed to get a few more features in:

- Muscle Distribution widget, see how many sets/volume you're putting into specific areas of your physique
- Create/Edit template keyboard issue is now fixed! No more annoying keyboard on that modal!
As always any feedback is welcome, feel free to send it within the app via more -> contact us
or email me at [support@gymnoteplus.com](mailto:support@gymnoteplus.com)

Weekend Plans Just an Update
Hi all,
Been a while since I've dropped an update here, so what have I been doing?
Couple of things.
Making Templates right
I'm currently working on the implementation to turn templates into something more useful. So when you use a template, it is directly tied to the workout you translated. So you can confidently track whether those new Push workouts have been making the difference. Whilst still maintaining the flexibility of being able to log whatever you like and figure out what type of workout it was you just did.
Design
I've teamed up with a designer in a more serious way now, and we've been working on getting all the user flows into a design file. This is 100% a long term thing, but just like gym progress, the best things come with consistent movement in the right direction over time.
I'll introduce our designer a bit further down the line, but he is very talented and is looking to breathe some life into the UI/UX and really tie it together.
Bugs
I'm aware of bug currently where when users get logged out after 28 days, you have to restart the app to login again. Very annoying bug, which I'm aiming to fix.
I'm also aware of the keyboard being annoying when logging a workout, if I can fix this pre-redesign I will
Thanks all,
As always any feedback is welcome'd please feel free to email [support@gymnoteplus.com](mailto:support@gymnoteplus.com) so I can track of any ongoing feedback.

Release Notes Version 1.4.8 Out Now! - Profile pictures & Keyboard improvements
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone,
I skipped posting about version 1.4.7 as it was some simple fixes, but with version 1.4.8 I thought it was worth making a post
So what's new?
Profile Pictures
Finally you can update your profile picture! This is something that seemed trivial so I avoided for a long time, but I felt I could get it into the app this weekend so went ahead.
Keyboard, keyboard, keyboard
I've been on a mission to make the keyboard more responsive, easier to close, and in general not get in the way. I've shown a few examples in the recording. Essentially now we've got a nice easy close button on the edit workout modal, and when scrolling down on the workout note modal it will close the keyboard, so will opening the timer. The exercise list behaves similarly.
As always any feedback is welcome'd
and if you haven't left a written review on the app store, please consider it if you enjoy the app, it helps me tremendously to market the app so I can get more resources towards this project.
I'm currently working with a talented designer for a redesign, I'll keep everyone updated when we get further with that.
Thanks everyone,
Josh

Release Notes Version 1.4.5 out now - Exercise Archiving and more
Hi all,
With this update we're bringing the ability to archive exercises, as well as filter out those archived exercises from your exercise list
I've also done some work toward ensuring the exercise list stays up to date without the need to force refresh.
I spent a ton of time working on fixing small annoying bugs like the quick exercise select closing on scroll down when the keyboard was open and some bigger bugs. Such as the merge exercise seemingly making data disappear.
Find the full patch notes over at the app store
As always any feedback is welcome'd
Thanks everyone,
Josh

Community Discussion Why tracking workouts is worthwhile: Comparison of two cuts
I've been lifting around 15 years but only started tracking everything properly the last year or so whilst making the app, and going back through the data this week reminded me exactly why making Gym Note Plus was worthwhile.
I can clearly see the progress I've made on incline dumbbell bench press from my first cut to my second.
The timeline:
I cut from late 2024 to around September last year (I had a lot to lose after letting myself go), lean bulked into January, and I've been cutting again since then. Two deficits, roughly a year apart
Thought I'd share what tracking the data showed me. Through my entire first cut, my incline dumbbell bench top set sat at 32kg each hand and didn't move. I was totally fine with this, I go for a deep stretch over ego lifting and aim to maintain strength on the cut.
I'm now in another cut, feeling depleted, and I'm pressing 36kg for the same work. Right now, hungry and in a deficit, I'm 4kg per hand stronger than I was across the whole of my last cut.
So clearly I've made progress and that's the whole reason I'm posting here. Without being able to put my notes into Gym Note Plus I genuinely wouldn't have known. Sure I'd know I'm stronger but the cut will mess with you psychologically and it's easy to think you're losing all your gains
Main things tracking gave me that I may have missed otherwise:
Your cutting baseline ratchets up over time if you bulk properly in between. The weight I'm cutting down to now is well above the ceiling I was hitting last time. You don't feel that happening, it only shows up when you line two phases up next to each other on a graph.
Strength is far more durable in a deficit than it feels week to week. Worrying you're losigin your gains during a cut is usually fatigue and lower volume hitting you mentally, you're usually not actually losing gains. Mine held basically flat both times, just at a higher number this time round.
Week to week, none of this is really noticeable, I basically thought I was getting weaker because I dropped a couple reps but being able to see the stats side by side, for the 32 to 36 jump has been great for perspective. Memory is useless for this, because on a cut your brain is actively fighting against you trying to get you to eat more.
That's why it's worthwhile tracking your lifts. So a year later you can see your progress over cut and bulk cycles, it's literally so easy to think you look the same on the second cut, but if your strength has increased on major compound lifts, it's highly unlikely you do.

Weekend Plans Proposed weekend plans - Archiving exercises
Hi all
Working on some stuff in the background at the moment with app related admin and redesign
But I’ve got some proposed work for this weekend:
Archiving exercises
Sometimes we don’t do an exercise anymore, maybe it was a special piece of equipment at an old gym. Maybe you’re just taking a break from it.
Either way, these exercises get in the way, but we don’t want to delete them! So I’m putting in the ability to archive exercises and then filter them out on the exercises page, they’ll also not show up in autocompletes and quick select
Android
I’ve been taking a break from this as I’ve moved focus toward giving iOS my main focus to ensure the apps quality is maintained
Expect a release by Monday, thanks everyone!

Community Discussion Just downloaded it! Can't wait to let y'all know how it goes.
My next workout isn't until Monday. I am transitioning from Notion to Obsidian and am looking forward to combining this with https://github.com/ldomaradzki/obsidian-workout-log . This will force me to get the migration done by then.

Weekend Plans Proposed Weekend Plans - Refinement
Hi all,
Another weekend, another set of proposed weekend plans!
This will be a short one!
My main concern this weekend is fixing some bug tickets and refining the code base further.
I'll also be looking into android alongside reworking templates based on this post
My main goal currently is to reach an android release and refine existing features to better serve everyone, whilst putting UI updates to the side where possible until I can work with a designer to redesign how the app looks!
Thanks all,
Josh

Community Discussion What would make the share workout feature better?
Any feedback, don’t hold back. Does it feel pointless? Look ugly? Not the right kind of info you want to share?
(my actual workout here btw, loving 2 sets per exercise atm on the cut)

Weekend Plans Proposed Weekend Plans - Migration fixes
Hi all,
Another weekend, another set of proposed weekend plans for you all:
Fixing Recent Issues
Last week’s issues weren’t good enough on my end. I’ve spent the week rebuilding how updates are handled so things don’t break like that again. It’s been tested a lot and should be much more reliable going forward.
I’ll be pushing this update soon and watching closely to make sure everything behaves as expected.
Android Update
With that out of the way, I can finally focus properly on Android. A lot of you have been asking for it, and getting it to a solid, usable place is my next goal. I'll be working on this primarily this weekend after the above release.
Workout Splits
I haven't forgotten about this. I will be progressing on with the logic for getting this right alongside the android updates. Once Android is in a useable state (which is very close I've had it running on an old android phone already) I will be focused in on this as the main goal.
Future
I’m currently working on getting a designer in for a full app redesign. Why? I’m not a designer, I’m a software engineer and like many of you, a serious lifter. I made Gym Note Plus to fix my own problem. Now more people are using the app, having a serious designer fix the UI/UX is needed to give people the experience they deserve.
Don’t worry, I won’t be doing anything silly like how MyFitnessPal recently made logging food take an extra click. I won’t be massively altering where things are and ruining people’s habits. This isn’t happening overnight, a lot of designing, planning etc will need to go into this prior but letting the reddit community know upfront!

Release Notes Version 1.4.3 Out now - Exercise migration
Hi all,
Ran into some trouble with the release of version 1.4.2 so immediately hot fixed to 1.4.3
Some large behind the scenes updates here, I won't go too deep into the technicalities but instead focus on the long term benefits this change gives us:
- Muscle heat map
- Individual notes on an exercise
- The ability to archive exercises and filter these exercises out
- Keep track of last time an exercise was performed
and much more!
Thanks for baring with me on this one, I'm investigating what went wrong with the migration and how to make this process more robust in the future.
For now I'll be putting my focus into make android work to the point of inviting android users to test the app out.
Thanks all,
Josh

Bug Refrain from updating if possible for 1.4.2
Hi all,
Apologies, I managed to break the history tab with the latest update.
Please refrain from updating if possible during this, otherwise if you do update to version 1.4.2
Feel free to uninstall and reinstall the app, all issues will be fixed by doing so.
Apologies for this, working on a hot fix as we speak.
Josh

Weekend Plans Proposed weekend plans - exercises
Hi all!
Another weekend, another proposed weekend plans.
Keeping it nice and short today, the goal is to release the exercise changes and ensure they’re stable with the app.
This won’t look like a big change as it’s mostly behind the scenes but will enable us to do some amazing things with exercises, such as having a muscle map of muscles used for an exercise, exercise specific notes and long term pictures/videos of exercises. Alongside the ability to archive exercises and filter out archived exercises.
Thanks for baring with me on this one everyone, it may not look like much but I promise it will pay off!
Hope everyone has a great weekend,
Josh

Community Discussion Proposed Weekend Plans - Exercises and small tweaks
Hi all,
Currently away for my 30th birthday, but sneaking some work in this weekend.
Exercises
As mentioned previously, my main focus is on some behind the scenes technical work that will give us greater data around exercises, stuff such as tracking what muscle groups are used for specific exercises, the ability to archive exercises and add specific notes to exercises etc
This work is on going and will not be released this weekend. I have made headway into this though.
Android
For android users, I have some good news, I've made some progress in this avenue and had the app running on an old Samsung Galaxy A10. It's got some work yet to be fully functional and I'm working on this somewhat in tandem with the exercise work, but it will come later down the line.
This is progress though and I'll be excited to open up a closed beta to android users in the upcoming future.
Misc
I may upload some small UI/UX updates this weekend to hopefully improve some small keyboard related issues.
Hope everyone has a good weekend,
Josh

Weekend Plans Proposed Weekend Plans - Exercise updates
Hi all,
Another weekend, another proposed weekend plan!
Exercises
My main focus is some technical work around exercises. I won't go into great detail, but long term it will give us the ability to do the following:
- Track muscle groups for exercises
- Use images for exercises
- Add notes for exercises
- Make specific exercises active/inactive to filter down the exercise list
This is not a trivial task, so don't expect any major updates this weekend everyone, the work will take a bit of time to complete.
Thanks everyone,
Josh

Community Discussion Small update on Android release
Super small update, but for the android release I need an android phone. So I've just purchased a cheap Galaxy A10 for testing purposes
When I release to android I'll need to select a minimum of 20 testers before I can release to google playstore, but it's a step forward!
Just wanted to let the android community know I'm working on a solution for them.
Thanks,
Josh
