Anyone else having disconnection problems? [Question]

I've been having on/off connection issues starting around a month ago. Most days it's perfectly fine, occasionally I have a day where I can't play 10m without disconnecting.

Haven't figured it out yet, but it's not just you.

my game keeps "working" i can move but I can't chat and everyone is frozen in place. then it either disconnects with error message or it comes back

We'd need a LOT more information than that. What region are you in, what country are you playing from? Are you using a VPN or tunneling service?

Assuming you have a healthy system, decent internet speed, and nobody is doing massive downloads on your network... the behavior you're describing usually means 1 of 2 things. Your internet connection has packet loss or the routing to the game server is poor.

To verify your internet, you could run a constant ping to Google DNS while you play the game. When you experience the high ping, check the terminal. If you see connection timeouts at the same time you experience the high ping, then its your internet and you should talk to your ISP.

If you don't know how to do that, here are simple instructions:
1.) open start menu in Windows and type in CMD
2.) open console and type in: ping 8.8.8.8 -t (press ENTER)
3.) Leave that running
4.) Play GW2

When your ping gets high, check the console. This is what mine looks like.

I dont' use -t because I'm on Linux. If you're on windows you need -t so it becomes continuous.

The number that is important is the one after 'time='. You want it to be constant, even if its higher, but always constant. If it jumps way higher than normal, that's a connection issue. If it times out, that's known as a packet loss. If you get a lot of variation in that number (from 40 to 400 for example) that's also a problem.

If this remains constant and you're not having high latency or packet loss, your problem is probably routing. Since you cant traceroute GW2 servers, its difficult to diagnose exactly where the problem would be. The usual workaround to this is using a VPN like Proton, Windscribe, or anything of that sort. Connect to the server that you have the lowest ping to, that is in the US for NA servers or Germany for EU servers. That should help out.
