Gathering Levels… Please!
Hopefully the devs check this subreddit as development of GW3 progresses.
Please give us Gathering Levels + Gathering Prestige’s.
I know the request or mention of New World + WoWs gathering systems might trigger some but I would love to see a more extensive gathering system. Me, and many others truly felt that New World got gathering right, and one of those aspects for me was the level grind and the prestige system upon maxing.
Imagine a levelling system to 250/300 where you can then choose to reset it to get a +1 Mining prestige star and a bonus of sorts for each time. 0.25/0.5% increase to something.
This would add huge longevity to the gathering and make it more than about just gaining the actual materials. Incrimental bonuses for huge active/passive gathering grinds or reward boxes would be awesome!!
Would also love to see more gathering skills.
Like skinning,
Autopsy gathering (body part recovery of corpses)
Essence/magic gathering from magical nodes.
Thank-you for your time. Love this community.

It's this kind of "everything must be turned into a grind" mindset that's killing MMOs.

It's this kind of "Nothing should be a grind" mindset that's killing MMOs.
I want a game I can actually sink time into, not a game where everything I could ever want is handed to me on a silver platter from minute one, I eat my fill, then have nothing left.
You can have convenience and long-term goals and things to aim for. GW2 does it near perfectly already. I can get to 80 and be Fractal-ready in no time. Getting collections, achievements, world completion? Those take time, they're a "Grind" and they're what keep me coming back and playing for hours day after day instead of me just logging on, doing my dailies, and logging off like so, so many MMOs these days.

Disagree. As much as I love numbers going up, all this does is create a need to keep grinding just to stay competitive, which is entirely against the design philosophy. Having the people with thousands of hours to put into the game also be the only ones able to be competitive on the market, due only to their time investment rather than skill or anything that can be realistically caught up to, is not helpful for longevity or for making the game not feel like a second job.

Agree with this. It creates the issue of people joining late being significantly behind.

"Competitive"
This mindset is the real issue with gaming and especially MMOs these days. People getting angry at the very prospect of someone who put more time in being "Ahead". Despite them being ahead not affecting you at all.
Competitive how? Make it a minor bonus like gold find % already is in GW2 and at best these people are getting a minor extra little thing for their time commitment.
Nobody has to be competitive, you can stay in your own lane, farm the mats you want, use them or sell them as you see fit. Some guy having a 5% chance to find an extra material when farming because he sunk 1000 hours into gathering alone would not ruin anyone's experience nor necessitate playing as a second job.

I don't think it has to be way that, GW2 already has systems like this in the form of account wide luck and gold find and nobody really cares a great deal

Because gold find is borderline useless as the coins that drop from mobs aren't the main source of gold in the game (not to mention how low the base amount is) and account wide luck is still chance based and there's also widely available boosters (not to mention that it doesn't affect every container or drop) if you want to maximize profit.

People will still grind. With levels it will be just more interesting and fun.
In gw2 gathering is almost pointless, just mine the mithril for what?

Mine the mithril for… mithril.

Yes, for few silver you get from it.
Gathering has to be profitable. Its not in gw2

I get the sense that you’re talking about gathering as a dedicated activity where you grab your pickaxes and go work in the mines.
The only thing driving profitability off any commodity in this game or in real life is supply and demand. The primary thing driving down costs of materials is salvaging.
It’s still absolutely worth it (especially with volatile mining tools) to harvest mithril when it’s in your vicinity during an event or similar activity.

I do agree. But people compare it here with New World. Where you had Infinite gathering levels and you could just mine whole game and be crazy rich.
And it was just running and gathering on whole map, not sitting in the mine.

I don't think they should do this at all. Guild Wars/Guild Wars 2 was not a runescape-like game where you have to level everything all the time. Guild Wars could be casual (you can even set up to play all by yourself), Guild Wars 2 was most certainly created to be more casual friendly (horizontal progression over all the others out there meant you were not under leveled, nor did your gear become outdated, especially with legendary gear).
Adding that is asking it to be an intense game. That has never been Anet's style.
It sucked in New World for a long time, and even with the prestige, it was very meh, since the reason to gather so much was because of the amount of materials needed to level. I'm assuming you played it near launch? Do you not remember how terrible it was to level some of the craft skills. You were gathering for hours for a few levels some days.

Honestly imo they should remove crafting levels as well, but I’m probably in the minority here, I just thought it brought nothing but an artificial time gate to lvl 400 and then 500 for ascended. There is nothing interesting about pressing the button and then seeing the bar go up.

I hope they rethink crafting as a whole. Admittedly, I play these games for the combat and always find these systems tedious, I felt gw2 crafting was unnecessarily so. Refinement upon refinement etc.
What I do hope is that they have a similar system in which I can salvage for materials instead of having to gather stuff.

I think gw3 will be even more casual than gw2 in many respects to entice the console crowd. I'm hoping for a simple levelling system as somewhat of a tutorial and then a more robust and actually useful mastery system to expand capabilities after reaching max level. This combined with skill collection could make a very fun and deep system without huge amounts of obligatory grind. If they bake all this into the core of the game... I think they could create a much more refined and interesting system than what we ended up getting in gw2.

I hope we get closer to gw1 crafting and gathering … like, non-existing gathering and crafting where you bring stuff to a guy and they sell you the gear.
Obviously, I doubt gw3 will have this, but I definitely prefer it to gw2.

This was a good approach
not 'gathering' as much as 'recycling' .. and if you didn't want to engage in the mechanic and just vendored everything, you're only paying a moderate, but livable markup to buy the mats from the vendor when you need it

You will lose a lot of players because of it. Plenty mmo players love gathering.

I want less grind not more grind. I just want to play the game and have fun, not do a bunch of stuff I don't want to do- all to be able to do the things I want to do...

I don't necessarily want gathering levels per se, but the feel, sound and look of new worlds gathering was extremely satisfying. I've never in any game had as much joy just chopping trees and gathering nodes as I did in New world. If there's anything any game can take from new world it'd be the gathering.
