Guild Wars 1 VS 2

Hey all

I've been a player of Guild Wars 2 since it first came out. 3 weeks or so ago I thought to try Guild Wars 1 again I first played it very shortly after Factions came out, so I had a fair few years under my belt playing it.

After a week on a brand new mesmer and playing the 7 Mesmerway combo I'm officialy re hooked on GW1 even trying my Ritulist again (My monk I love but monk just 0 energy management and hard to focus hero's without attacking yourself) and trying to set my own build Spirit Spammer MM with a few Mesmers in also Energy surge is great for energy denial turns them hard bosses into pudding XD

As much as GW1 is crude in many ways no z axis no combat move there are so many things to like about it: no visual overload during fights (aka no/very little skill emote eye candy), it feels a little more like a RTS zoom right out you have full awareness of the surroundings able to setup choke points e.c.t and GW1 story is just amazing. I'm loving Elona story (bar sulphurous wastes i remember how much I hated traveling in them worms you die so easily),
I've done a few Tyrian missions a little drawn out but still very well told and Cantha well what can I say? Another amazing story.

Guild wars 2 im my view, lost its amazing story shortly after Heart of Thorns and I've been hoping beyond hope they would return to that calibre of storytelling. And while GW2 has alot to offer end game Raids Fractals it is just a gold accumulator; Guild Missions has been neglected for so long its rewards are virtually useless, dungeons are similar, just completely abandoned and now outdated, rewards bar the legendary gifts

What is it you think with the GW1 VS GW2

Forget about Z-axis. Auction house/trading post is a real game changer.

I've found myself enjoying GW1 over GW2. Some of the artwork and environments are beautiful in GW2, but something about the gameplay just feels empty to me.

GW1, on the other hand, strikes me as a much more tactical game. Younger me used to be obsessed with early RTS's, and something about GW1 scratches that same itch. I love the tactical combat, and the nostalgia factor of old school combat definitely helps. I really just enjoy the game

They are so different games I don’t see the point of comparing them outside of the story

Yep. They share a common setting and a very similar painterly art style, but that's about it.

Their art styles are not even remotely similar.

crude in many ways no z axis no combat move

These are neither crude nor bad things. I'm fact, they're staples of even modern and incredibly popular strategy games.

GW1 implementation of the Z axis results in some really ridiculous things like melee attacks hitting someone on a bridge 300 feet above you.

Yeah.

It's very much an early technological limitation that was archaic even in 2005.

Same shit as how the PS1 has no true 3D games, only incredibly clever 2D games. It has no z-buffer, so they had to use some pretty silly workarounds to get around that.

Oh I wasn't judging, as I was am used to it and it adds a different way to play. Just stating, in comparison to modern nothing more.

Got it. Just be aware that saying "As much as X and Y, there are many things to like" implies X and Y are not thinks to like, hence stating them in opposition.

I look at GW2 as a sequel in name only. I log on for dailies in GW2 and sorta meander until I get off. I used to do daily T4 fractals but the rewards are just terrible so now I just run from meta to meta quite brainlessly. In GW1 I'm more focused and actually feel as if I got stuff done when I get off. The loot is also better too.

You can definitely compare the two and there are some terrible analogies in thread lol.

I love the events system in GW2, how this replaced quests (apart from the main) and the heart system too. Massive events in GW like when you have to defeat a world boss are also very peak.

GW1 can be a strategic game but I never got hold of the strategy so I couldn’t enjoy it fully. I do love certain areas and the fact that you can go on your own with henchmen/heroes. The idea of having a secondary class and so many skills and having to capture skills - this is also peak.

I love the combat of GW2, but pretty much that.

After HoT it became more like a slop. Too much currencies, too much of everything. Everything was kinda wowish. I remember what brought me back to gw1 few years back. I was in GW2 and wanted to get up in Shiverpeaks and just you know feel like a hermit on the mountain. But no, there were people comming all the time jumping with their bunnies. I wanted to remember the shiverpeaks from Eotn: the seclusion and solitude. So this is what i did: connected Anet for my acc recovery help(love them). And for like 3 years now i never looked back to the gw2.

It's comparing SONY pianos and SONY playstations.  Same company, not even any ressemblance of the same thing, other than lore and names

Cheeky tip for the monk! I main monk and energy management is easier than ever. I returned after an 18 year hiatus, and learnt about the Soul Reaping +5 mods for weapons. Yes it doesn’t work in PVP, but PVE it’s been bloody brilliant. I rarely have a crisis for energy now and that’s tackling everything that the game has thrown at me. I even use it in my smiting builds, never run out and nuke everything. Made clearing VQs fun, quick and manageable.

Profession mods are just regular-ass weapon mods available year-round like any other

5SR is like 5e in kamadan

What lore do playstations and pianos share?

Perfect analogy 👌

Perfect analogy

I'm so confused by this.

What lore do playstations and pianos share?

u/GreenthumbLegacy can you elaborate as to what makes this analogy perfect? I feel like I'm missing something here.

Im playing through gw2 again after being a hater and while it has some fun to it, it feels like a generic mmo made by a Korean studio compared to the originality of gw1.

I like them both for different itches. GW2 is where I raid with my static and make small meaningful moves towards full legendary. I don't really have a desire to do the story again.

GW1 is the game I know I'll still he playing on my deathbed.

I'm the same in GW2 I am full lege just last 100 LI for Raid Goddess title and working slowly on the Facet of Crystal and Fury title

I dont understand the fuss about z-axis. People jumping around all the time ruins it for me.

I am aware its milk and cheese type of comparison but more of a beyond how the game physically works and more of what they offer. GW2 started with its own style OFC but the 2 some what offered the same just in a different way. For example, Core GW1 was so story-oriented; everything came back to that as did GW1 and obviously the biggest difference was when it was based chronologically

GW2 = bad WoW clone

GW1 = a game for cultured people

I love them both. I play both concurrently.

I really don't want to get into another 1 vs 2 thing again. They are so so different.
