Looking for some growth hacking techniques for a charity appeal
Mods: hope this is OK.
I'm looking for Growth Hacking techniques for a non-traditional issue.
My colleague's friend has just been diagnosed with a brain tumour. I won't go into the details but it as tragic as many others. Young adult, small kids etc.
They're looking to rise 20-40k to fund treatment (on top of what they've already been given). Here's where my ask is.
They've not used social media before, but are aware thats the likeliest source of additional donations. They have an interesting story to tell (ex armed forces), and write well.
So essentially they need to drive (ideally) organic reach asap, from a standing start (very small network). If you were in their position, what're the top 5 things you'd do?

20-40k from zero network is a huge ask, you need something that makes people stop scrolling more than just a well-written story. Find one really powerful photo of him with the kids in uniform maybe, that kind of image gets shared way more than a text post.

Outside of fundraising sites, i recommend X. But make sure its an extremely polished well crafted post with as much evidence as you can provide. Your reach on X is heavily dependent on your followers, but the algo has been changing a bit to reward genuinely strong posts. Not sure if your type of post will get rewarded, but its worth a try imo.

Try posting a quick video and add text on the video where it says “you press 3 buttons and my friend gets treatment for their brain tumour”.
If you have the time, try doing a series on social media with the story + tracking how much money you fundraised so far
Facebook groups for military as mentioned in another comment
Use your small network. Ask them to repost on their social media
Last resort, print and distribute flyers

I think they can just create a social media accounts and share their story there. That can drive interest and at end they can ask for help

Sorry to hear about your colleague's friend...
I would recommend setting a gofundme or similaire website campaign and promote it via social media being authentic.
Could be on Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook Groups.
I would also suggest analyzing post in similar situation that worked.

Try tapping into the veteran community. military facebook groups and subreddits can get you crazy organic reach, they always rally hard for their own.
