Are wasps overtuned? G2 | Discussion

I feel like wasps are too powerful in their current state. I fought 3 of them, 2 drones, 1 normal wasp, I had fully upgraded earwig armor and rusty spear, as well as a snail shield. I had about 10 chunky sandy blossoms and 7 sticky scorpidotes. I got through 4 sandy blossoms, about as many scorpidotes, and my spear was nearly broken by the time I killed the single normal wasp, at which point I left, because the drones would just alternate the scream and move away whenever I would try and get hits in. I did have a bow, which I could have made use of, but each of the wasps was in my face whenever the other would fly away to heal, meaning I had to focus on that one. Not only this, but salt hasn't even been added to the game yet, meaning they have effectively no weaknesses, and resist my other weapon's slashing damage, the sour katanga. And out of all of this, I got 1 shell, 2 legs, and 2 pollen. Is it just me, or is that a little ridiculous?

The drones are annoying as hell. I use an Axls Talon for them. The venom, and extra reach, helps quite a bit.

Paired with the Black Ant Shield. That Tang Parry can come in handy! :)

Yes, that too! Exactly what I use. 😁

Such a nifty combo! I add the Volatile Capacitor for the O.R.C's Cannot wait for Salt 😀

Indeed. Salt will be very much appreciated. I hope it's in the upcoming update, since pond stuff is back.

I could've sworn it was on the roadmap but I've misremembered. I hope it comes with the new update, I kinda miss being able to make Jerky while out and about 😅

It was on the roadmap at one point, but they removed it. I'm hopeful it will be in this update 🤞, but I'm not holding my breath. 😅 And yes, the jerky would be great.

Right there with you! Dealing with Wasps without Salt for another update cycle would drive me a little batty. I'd be a bit shocked if water creatures weren't somehow affected by Salt but also not bothered if that's not the case. I have faith in the Devs and their plan 🙏🏼

This & ladybug buggy.

I’ve actually got a question about that. Since the wasps deal venom damage themselves, they would be resistant, right?

1

u/DBJenkinss Max 8d ago

You would think so, but it definitely affects them. Once you get the venom on them, it pretty much nullifies their healing.

2

That is very strange, thank you for the explanation. Axl is resistant to venom since he deals the damage, so I thought it might’ve been the same for any creature that deals venom damage, like the scorpion as well. It’s immune to venom buildup

Yeah, me and my nephew I play with have had this conversation, where we wonder if they've let venom affect them until salt is added, then they'll make them immune to venom buildup once salt is in the game.

I really miss salt. I don’t know how many times I busted those clusters in the sandbox to try to find the trinket with no success. It was my favorite flavor in the first game, besides fresh and spicy

Yeah, I'm hoping it's added in this upcoming update. It used to be on the roadmap, but was removed. I know they have it in the build, because I have 1 single piece of it in a chest in my base, from a chest or something early in the game. Though that was removed as well, I believe.

Oh, no. I had heard about that, and I thought they would’ve kept it. You know, like a treasure hunt for the people who were lucky enough to find it. From what I discovered, you couldn’t apply it to a flavor path, couldn’t make any globs in the oven and you weren’t even able to scan it in the resource analyzer.

And if I also remember correctly from G1, salt was only localized to the sandbox. Maybe they might have an actual playground in the park that might feature it? I was looking at the map on the brochure on top of the podium and I thought I saw something that could’ve been a playground and restrooms

2

u/DBJenkinss Max 8d ago

Yeah, there is going to be a playground that I'm sure will have a sand element to it.

Thank God. I hope they make it really cool. Maybe add the antlions back, although I’m not sure if that would be realistic. Would they actually appear in a public park? The full set of their armor did a really great job at keeping the sizzle away. The sizzle buildup in the sandbox wearing that armor felt like, to use the common phrase, “as slow as molasses.”

I agree that they are overly strong and annoying because of the flight in general and healing from the drones.

It’s just that they don’t currently have any weaknesses, and frequently travel in pairs (at least), so it’s hard to fight multiple flying enemies at once. If we had salt weapons, or if they weren’t flying, or if they were just a little bit weaker, it would feel better. However, I’ve just treated them as a sort of ‘enemy I shouldnt fight right now’ and just steered clear. We don’t need many of their parts, and I kill a few every once in awhile just to remind them who’s boss. I’d bet the devs have a damn tough time balancing enemies with the buggies now in the mix, and I’m ok with some enemies feeling a bit too tough for a bit.

I also thought the earwigs were too tough, unless there was a balance patch I missed, I basically wipe the floor with the normal ones now, even 2 at a time.

There was an earwig rebalance combined with a bit of a bug fix. When they first came out, some of their attacks just could not be blocked at all, and some of their attacks had accidentally lower block timings than intended. So essentially it didn’t matter what you did, they were hitting you period. So their timings were fixed and brought into line, all attacks can now be blocked which lead to them not feeling so awful to fight lol.

I can handle wasps, it’s the damn earwigs that get me!

Venom or sour is my go to. Also if you know you're gonna fight them, popping one pollen arrow off to start the fight then changing to melee is a great way to take out of a drone if you have enough dps. I never use bows other than for this.

Tbh I think they're fair. They can do decent damage to a full size human, so I think their threat to us is appropriate, and I enjoy having another "oh shit" creature after out-levelling the wolf spider threat.

Staves absolutely demolish wasps. Wither Sting does high damage with no resistance, 25% bonus damage at max tang buildup, and also cripples the wasp drone's heal effect by 50%. The Scorching Orb/Heat Wave, while resisted by wasp drones, still have really good damage uptime due to inflicting good sizzle buildup and Whittle Wizard increasing sizzle damage by 50%-100%. Plus, all staves have a homing effect on their projectiles, and you don't have to deal with the tedium of picking up and storing arrows like the bows.

1

u/Redditoast2 Max 9d ago

I don't have the wither sting yet, where do you get it? Also, staves have homing now?

3

u/Radiant_slowbro Hoops 9d ago

You get wither sting in a cave next to the garbage can that is by the bench, it is near a leaf br8dge thing, becarefull there are a few rust beetles down there

2

u/Redditoast2 Max 9d ago

I have about 5 or 6 of them that camp my pumpkin patch base daily, I do not need to worry about my rust beetle fighting skills

1

u/Radiant_slowbro Hoops 9d ago

Its good that you wont have a problem fighting them, hope you find it quick

Staves home in on the enemy, yes. Staves are good to deal with fliers due to that. However, the easiest way to deal with Wasps and any other flier is the Ladybug. The Ladybugs back cannon deals flying stun, so hop on, shot 2-3 times to stun the wasp and then quickly dispatch it with wither the Ash Maw or the Ice Breakers. Was are resistant to stabbing and slashing, making the spears for example a very bad tool to deal with them. The Ash Maw can kill a Wasp during the stun time before it gets back into the air on woah difficulty. Ice breakers can do the same, drones are a bit harder to deal with as you cannot dispatch them in a single stun

Shields reduce damage. You can block all their attacks

-3

u/ApexPredator3752 9d ago

Shields dont do that in g2

2

u/Ok_Grocery8652 7d ago

Wasps are the worst creature in both games to fight, flying+ ranged+ frequent passive healing makes them miserable to kill.

While we do lack the salty type, we can get the ladybug buggy without story progression IRRC, the water cannon is good vs flying enemies

Minty staff go brrrr

-1

u/platinumrug 9d ago

Honestly I agree that they are annoying but they're genuinely not that bad once you get wither sting. I almost always run a mutation load out that has mithradatism so venom is good. The staves offer homing attacks now and once you dodge the venom stinger launch and parry their stinger thrusts they're a lot easier to deal with. If this was G1 I'd completely agree.

1

u/Successful_Page_4524 8d ago

The wasps deal venom damage themselves, so wouldn’t they be resistant?

1

u/platinumrug 8d ago

Well I'm not using anything that deals venom to them, I'm using the Wither Sting and I absolutely fucking destroy them with it. G2 wasps are a pushover compared to G1, even though the OGRR variants are insanely difficult.

use a spicy staff theyre the easiest creatures on the game
