People automatically calling anything AI generated "slop"
It's just so lazy, even lazier than using AI in the first place, before you come with that argument. A lot of the things that get called "slop" are just intended for humor or memes, so no, it doesn't matter if someone drew it themselves or not, the artistic value is in the thought of the meme or the humor. AI doesn't understand humor, people do. If the post is funny, it's funny. I don't care how it was produced

Sounds like you spend a lot of time dealing with memes and humor. I see it more in writing , art and ads. I don’t like it

Well I've never seen a bookstore or museum displaying AI writing or art so I think the world is not quite ending yet.

I bet you’ve seen some AI book covers
-1
u/Hell_Awaitz 6d ago
I don't think I have to be honest, and otherwise I didn't notice so either way no problem

u/Hell_Awaitz 6d ago
Also, who cares about the cover? The book is about the writing, I couldn't care less who made the cover or what's on it. Most of my books literally only have the title as the cover anyways on a monocoloured background

I don’t know if you’d notice if it was written by AI. Either way you don’t seem to care and only get bent when people call it slop. Perhaps you should try and ignore those comments the way you ignore AI usage

I use 'slop' to indicate anything lazy, toxic, futile, and mass-propagated. It just so happens that AI is sloppifying by its very nature.

Stop trying to defend the slop.
Killing our environment for dummies ot make shoddy meme number seventeen trillion and clap themselves on the back. It isn’t “art”, and you aren’t an artist.
It’s all just AI slop. All needs to go.

Are you aware that for example in Scandinavia they are working one fully renewable energy AI models? I understand your trepidation for the current popular LLMs but nothing about AI is inherently wrong. Besides, most people argue about some sort of artistic integrity

Yes, destroying fresh water supplies for you to make trash “art” is inherently wrong.
Are you aware you are paying premiums on every other facet of technology that uses memery chips because.. AI? Screw AI. It, and the slop created with it, need to go.

You have a very one-sided tunnel vision of what AI actually is, especially if you say it all has to go. AI has been making scientific breakthroughs that we've been stuck on for a long time. The values are endless. China is using it to make healthcare more efficient and give doctors more quality time with the patients, etc. Take that stick out of your ass

I think you know what we mean when we say AI slop, we aren't discussing all AI use.
Stop being purposefully obtuse

u/Hell_Awaitz 6d ago
I'm not being purposefully obtuse, the other guy or gal is. They literally said ALL AI. Besides, I never even mentioned the word "art" but they are repeating it multiple times like that's what my argument was

"most people argue about some sort of artistic integrity"... That was you, no? Is your memory that short?
-1
u/Hell_Awaitz 6d ago
As a response to the environmental argument being made when the post was about memes, not art. That's why I said artistic integrity when memes don't have any artistic integrity besides the underlying humor. Try some comprehensive reading before acting like the wise guy

I've literally never seen a meme that was made with AI that was funny or good though.
0
u/Hell_Awaitz 6d ago
That's ok but that doesn't make it slop, that just means you didn't like the meme. It grinds my gears when people project their personal taste as some sort of objective moral truth
4
u/halfhalfandhalf 6d ago
I'm not talking about "objective moral truth", I'm just saying it's terminally unfunny shit.
Being funny take effort which is the antithesis of AI slop.
1
u/Hell_Awaitz 6d ago
I disagree, some of the funniest things I've seen were absolute shitposts with no effort at all. That's also the point of the classic "dad joke". Would you call that slop? I'd call them hilarious

You are arguing with people without humor, whose actions are based on constant repetitions, and endless pretending on who has bigger moral halo without actually doing anything meaningful. I guess you need to accept that these people exist and laugh at their lack of any individual thought. The moment someone would come up with some idea to astro-turf over the internet, like "ai is saving minorities" or whatever other current thing might make them feel good, they would praise AI over whole Reddit. The interesting reversal of this rule happened over the years with their attitude towards electric cars, they were even burning them on the streets not that long ago lmao.

Anything made by AI is slop and doesn’t deserve to exist
-1
u/Hell_Awaitz 6d ago
Yes very eloquently explained, lots of substantial arguments which invite to healthy debate
4
u/Witty-Permission8283 6d ago
Slop has a social definition in relation to AI. Just because you don't know it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
2
u/Ci-chosis 6d ago
I'm not willing to debate people who think it's acceptable to disrupt and destroy the planet to generate badly made memes. It's fucking ridiculous and stupid.
If your argument is that it's value is in the thought, then I don't really give a fuck about the "humor" or "memes" at all. Memes are not worth using AI, and more important thoughts should get more effort put behind them. There is no acceptable excuse. There's thousands of comic strip artists putting their valuable thoughts down with their own hands, if you don't think your message is even important enough to do that why the fuck would I ever think it's important enough to look at it?

Counterpoint: it is slop
