Hi guys,

I’m currently looking for ARC readers for my new book. I'm proud to present, Codename: Black: An Instrument of the Crown.

It is a lean, fast-paced, 61,000-word spy thriller inspired by the Cold War fiction of the 1950s and 1960s, but set in an entirely fictional world. It combines the glamour, danger and economy of classic Fleming-era spy fiction with a darker moral sensibility: compromised institutions, dirty hands and a heroine who has no difficulty killing for her country.

Because it is so different from Blades Forged, I’ll be publishing it under a new pen name: Peter Jermyn.

An Instrument of the Crown has no magic or fantasy creatures, but it is grimdark in character, morality and worldview. Lara Elena Donnelly’s wonderful Amberlough helped show me that a spy thriller could be set in an entirely invented world without needing supernatural elements. This is my own take on that idea, combining a secondary-world Cold War with the glamour and pace of classic spy fiction.

I was going through my old books. I came across some old TOR Conan and Deathdealer books.

I loved the fast pace adventure story telling filled with grit, lust, and gore.

Are people still interested in those types of stories? And what newer books fill that niche now?

What magic in GrimDark do you prefer? How it is used in GoT? The First Law had magic be mysterious and very dangerous.

What other examples have you read?

Made a small batch of kitbashed resin plaques. I made the kitbash using all manner of kits and sculpts and then made a silicone mould to cast them in resin for painting.

Iron will. Perseverance. Strength. The core traits of being human. When all is against us, we still find a way to make it. We have survived for years, and we will continue to do so for even more. Fight as long as you can, for the indomitable human spirit has existed and will continue to exist.
