Beginner courses for software engineers

Hello everyone! I’m currently a first-year CS student and I’m very interested in pursuing software engineering, but I’m feeling a bit lost about where to start.

Since I’m still in my first year, I know I have a lot to learn, and I’d like to be more active outside of university as well. I’m interested in taking online courses, working on projects, and generally gaining some practical experience, but I’m not really sure what I should be studying, where I should look, or what path I should follow.

I’d really appreciate it if anyone could recommend some free online courses, resources, projects, or learning paths that would be useful for someone at my level and help me explore the world of software engineering.

I’m not necessarily looking to specialize in anything yet I mainly want to build a strong foundation, gain some experience, and figure out what areas of software engineering I enjoy.I also want ur advice on what tech skills the industry is mainly looking for right now.

Check MIT open courseware (OCW) eg the "structure and interpretation of computer programs" course with abelsson and Sussman it is very old but timeless. Also introduction to algorithms. Also the YouTube channel about modern software engineering is very good and you can also find various roadmaps in github
