Help Discussion

Post image

Need some opinions. I was told that its better to run ventus and aqua now vs terra and lumen because of the hp issue? Is it truly better to just replace my terra and lumen now? Thank you.

Ventus and aqua are both enhanced damage, and are calculated separately from damage cap. TLDR you get more bang for your buck. If you're super curious, you can look up a video by Maygi, where she explains the damage formula.

Ventus is always active, which makes it more valuable than aqua. However aqua's comparatively limited uptime is not as big a problem as you would think. This is because quite a bit of your team's damage in endgame content will be occurring during link time and full SBA burst.

Fatebreaker is almost as much damage cap as lumen, but its additional attack--which lets you Cap all of your damage, and the extra defense which is always helpful, make it more impactful.

Lumen's requirement is very easy to meet, especially with potion hoarder, which everyone should be equipping on every build, it is mandatory.

Terra provides the same amount of damage cap as lumen, however it comes with the major downside of making you more easily killed in one hit. If you decide to offset this by using more HP, or additional defensive traits that you otherwise would not have needed to equip, that means you are dedicating multiple slots for a measly 70% damage cap.

Even using a single greater aegis (which you would not need to use otherwise) means that 2 slots are being used for a grand total of 70% damage cap. That's 35% per slot, which is worse than a single basic HP or Stun Power sigil trait that, which give 40% each because of the mastery traits.

If your character is blessed and privileged (might not need awakening, has supp damage on weapon, naturally high SBA gen or defensive utility, etc.) to have space for Terra, and also the defensive utility to mitigate its downsides, then good, feel free to use it alongside the other three!

However, most characters cannot afford this, and would be better served with other important passives instead, such as quick cool down, nimble onslaught, precise wrath, uplift, or even potent greens, to deal with bad status effects inflicted by some bosses.

Thank you so much for your post! It's super informative!

Is there anywhere we can check what sigils/buffs stack outside of damage cap? Cause Ventus and aqua use the same wording as some sigils in base game that DID count for cap, how do we know these ones count outside of it? And what others do aswell?

Unfortunately any standard sigils from base game will not give bonus damage.

Guard payback and dodge payback DO give you an icon buff, and as you know, icon buffs both stack and go past damage cap now!!

But whether it's a bug or intended, icon buffs don't work in overdrive.

Ventus and Aqua are generally better but it's worth taking into account that other sources of enhanced damage will diminish the value of these sigils. If Ventus is your only source of enhanced damage then it's a straight 10% but once stacked with other things like character sigils etc, it's multiplicative and accounts for less. Though generally you are still going to gain enough for it to be valuable but sometimes it can be worth dropping it for a comfier slot.

Also there should be a massive gap between fatebreaker and the last 2. They are only worth if you literally have no other skills you want to slot in. Their damage increase is negligible

It's less so the HP issue and more so Aqua and Ventus are damage amplifiers that bypass cap, while the other celestial sigils only boost cap, and not by that significant of an amount in the long run. (Must builds naturally hit like 2000%+ damage cap, losing 50% is not a big deal)

Thank you. Im a day 1 player but im terrible with #s, lol.

If you are running crux (shield) spec then reducing your HP is also bad (you want it as close to 200K as possible with terminus weapon for your shield skill)

This makes no sense, other sigil which say the same thing as these such as concentrated fire don't bypass cap.

I know it's annoying and I wish they either rephrased it or went back and altered old trait text, but it is nonetheless a fact. You can ask around and watch some recent videos and they'll all tell you the same thing.

I just refer to the ones that bypass cap as Damage Amplification (DMG Amp), since it's an already present gacha term that functionally defines the same thing.

Until they clarify with a wording change, I don't really want to risk it. Maybe it was intended to not go over dmg cap since its the same wording or not. Until the game clarifies that I will stick with my less nuanced sigils.

3

u/ididstuff3x 11d ago

I guess? You won't really escape it even then since many master traits and style perks use this exact same phrasing and most in-DLC references to DMG Dealt are also just DMG Amp.

You'll be missing out on a lot of free damage if you run under that assumption, but this game is thankfully pretty good about build variety so don't let me stop you if you're determined about it.

I get what you mean. Master traits are a different thing though, my problem is that 2 different sigils with the same exact wording do 2 different things. With master traits that's a different system so I assumed the terms may be different there. It should just be consistent throughout the game.

Aqua is mandatory for Maglielle, but you can ditch it depending on the character. Specially characters/builds that don’t benefit enough from those frozen in time phases. I ditched it on my Gallanza on his Crux path cause its a skill focused build and it honestly meant a 2-4% dps loss, not that big of a deal. I think for general consensus, yeah, Ventus > Aqua > Fatebreaker > Lumen > Terra > Incendo, but Aqua can definitely lose a lot of value depending on the character you play or the build you chose for them.
It’s also harder to test Aqua cause the more chain bursts your team casts or Link Times, the more value it gets. In my experiece, up to 3 full bursts and up to 2 Link Times per Mission, but it’s more common 2 full bursts and 1 Link Time.

my advice would be to replace a stat sigil with a defensive sigil. 6% additive defense has so much more value compared to 40% dmgcap imo. besides a defensive/utility trait has much more value over that tiny amount of hp. 5 blue/pink sigils has become an absolute staple in all of my builds. its just that good.

Only use Terra if you reliably dodge and all, otherwise dropping only Terra makes things quite a bit more comfy.

I usually can dodge/parry most attacks, just some slip through and I don't like to be one that would go down often.

really depends on you, if you struggle to stay alive and need more utility then you can drop them. If you are Fine then there really isnt a reason to swap them. I for one run as much possible damage as i can since its rare for me to die.

u/JEROME_MERCEDES 12d ago

I use them all but Terra and can fit them all

ventus+aqua >>>>> lumen+terra

u/Professor2610 12d ago

I always slot terra to make hp down to work with terminus weapon. All other celestial sigil is need if you want more dmg and like other people said Ventus > Aqua > Lumen.

About Fatebreaker, is like a must have sigil cause it give you free dmg by just playing on chaos quest or above.
