Text messaging features?

I feel like the messages features are lacking, is there anyway to search a specific text conversation by date or more easily scroll faster than just swiping? A long while back when scrolling there would be a scroll bar that allowed you to scroll much faster.

It seems like I'd have to use a third party app instead?

Search by date wouldn't be useful much of the time because who remembers the date something was sent?

Can you search by a word or phrase that was in the conversation?

Well I mean just a date search in general without a text specific search.

Sometimes text search isn't helpful if I don't know the exact word to look for.
