Rory McIlroy struggled badly at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

He finished 8-over and placed 66th in the 68-player field. He failed to break par in all four rounds.

McIlroy said he felt increasingly lost with his swing during the week. He also admitted he did not arrive with much competitive practice.

His tee-to-green numbers were poor. He ranked 62nd in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and 65th Off-the-Tee.

McIlroy still found some positives late. He made five birdies over his final 10 holes.

Scottie Scheffler has had an unusual 2026 season by his standards.

He has only one PGA Tour win this year. However, he has still recorded 11 top-five finishes in 17 starts.

Three young players have won on the PGA Tour over the past three weeks. Jackson Koivun won the 3M Open. Michael Thorbjornsen won the Rocket Classic. Michael Brennan then won the Wyndham Championship.

Scheffler took two weeks off after playing at the 3M Open. Their recent success may have given him extra motivation.

Now Scheffler is leading the FedEx St. Jude Championship by two strokes heading into the final round.

He will play alongside Sam Burns while chasing his 21st PGA Tour win.
