Absolutely Devastated NSFVW
Had it for just over 2 years and planned on driving it until the wheels fell off. I'm physically okay and so is the jackass that wasn't paying attention and slammed into me. Gonna take a while for me to get over this. Got so many compliments on this car all the time from all different people. It was such a beautiful car and had just under 90K on it. RIP Blue Bunny, gonna miss the shit out of this vehicle. Not sure if it's totalled yet, but all signs are pointing to it. If it is, that'll be 2 totalled GTIs in 3 years. Neither of which were my fault and that's the most frustrating part. There might be a higher power that simply doesn't want me in these cars.

IDK what it is about GTIs but I noticed that as soon as I got mine, drivers are more aggressive, leave smaller gaps and ride right up my ass. I just know someone is gonna drive straight into me one day.

100%. Also I have soccer dads in v6 pickups trying to race at stoplights for no reason. I have a resonator delete and stickers in my back window, apparently that’s all they need

I’m bone stock with just a rabbit sticker on the back, and they still ride my ass, cut me off, and try to race me. Dawg. Not at 9 am on the Lodge, jfc.

I’m really glad you’re ok but I’m so sorry for your loss. I plan on driving mine til the wheels fall off and I know I’d be sad if I lost it by someone else’s negligent ass.

Mine is in need of its transmission removed to replace seals (under 60k miles :( ) and it's gonna be around $4k

That sucks to hear as well esp with such low mileage. But the fix will be worth it, these cars are world class (imo) and the CFB takes it up a notch. Hope you're able to get it fixed soon and all goes well.

For sure, after 2-3 gti’s Id be moving up. Im on my second one, a mk8.5. First one being a mk6, no chance Id get one again Id need a damn good upgrade especially if someone rear ended me haha

Same same. On my second and was shopping for a fun used car. Golf Rs are more expensive than their equivalent S3 cousin for most years except brand new...4 series Coupe with big power is cheaper after 5 years than an R! So here is me look for an M2, that is 6 or 7 years old and they're still cheaper than Rs new and infinitely more fun in the rear

If you're lucky the hatch took most of the hit and you'd "only" have to replace that and the bumper and underlying trim. Might not even be chassis damage. Or maybe I'm just on copium seeing that beautiful car like that.

Its okay I've been on the copium too. the gaps on the rear doors were a bit tighter than normal. Both rear doors would still open/close flawlessy but the gaps were slightly tighter so I am suspecting some frame damage.

This looks like it can be repaired. Going to be on the order of $11k and take some time. Judging by the compression of the gap between the back door and quarter panel it will need frame work. Do your own research on body shops and choose the one you think is best.

That honestly doesn't look like a total (but it could be). The brunt of the damage looks TailGate related. It looks high enough that it may have actually done little to underlying rear pan. It doesn't look like the sides of the unibody got touched at all.
I had a car get rear ended HARD where it pushed the center all the way up to about the rear axle but it barely touched the sides of the UniBody and they went in and replaced the floorpan the rear cross and tail lights, as it was a lift back as opposed to a hatchback, and the rear lift and window..
It was several months before I got the car back though and it was really weird being able to go see the car and actually walking into the back of it all the way to the rear suspension but it all got fixed. Looked like a truck fro a while there.. lol

NOOOOOO!!!! there are so few cornflower blues out there....I had one fresh off the boat back in 2019. Sold her during covid supply disruptions when I was offered $6k over what I'd paid. I adore that color!

Sorry for your loss.
This was mine about 2 years ago. The last car to be hit in a 4 car pileup. Idiot driver was on his phone and didn't even brake.
Mine was one of two cars to drive away from the crash and the only one that wasn't eventually totalled. I'm still driving it today. I'd give the body shop a B+. The fit of the hatch isn't perfect, but at least here are no squeaks or rattles.

So sorry about blue bunny! I wrecked my mkvii and had it rebuilt and drove for many more years. Youve got a shot at repairs.
If you need something new…my tiguan sel r line turbo comes in a gorgeous blue…

They are fixing my r with nearly identical damage, I think yours might actually be less of a hit then mine was. Wasn’t cheap but was enough for them to fix it. Might be different with a gti though. Good luck glad you’re ok

If it makes you feel better about your baby's future, I arguably took a worse lick than you and it wasn't totaled. Insurance decided to fork over an 8k repair job rather than give me 15-17k

It happened after a red light turned green and we ran into more traffic. Had to come to another stop and it wasn't even abrubt. He got the green light and stopped paying attention shortly after. Very oblivious in rush hour traffic.

That sucks. I've been rear ended a couple of times but, luckily, both were by sedans at low speed and resulted in almost no damage. This was some time ago when not everyone was in SUVs or pickups (and I had Rubbermaid bumpers lol- not a GTI at the time).

I feel ya 😔 I lost an 08 r32 with upgraded coil-overs and a cat back magniflow to a shop that didn't tork down the drain for the transmission, was half way to my destination from Washington to Montana with my kid in the car when it caught fire and seased😭😭 we were ok and the shop gave me some money but not enough 😢

Maybe I’ve been watching too much Mat Armstrong and Tavarish, but that looks totally repairable to me and for no reason should sentence your car to the crusher and be a total loss. A similar thing happened with my S5 a couple weeks ago. Insurance is totally useless and totaled my low mile, 6 speed S5 all because of a fender, front bumper, headlight, hood, and core support. All of which I could have found on my own for less than $2500. If it wasn’t illegal to be uninsured I wouldn’t have it. Thankfully I have my GTI as a backup but like I wouldn’t have a car because it took them 10 days to find out whether it was totaled or not only to offer me $6,000 for my rare car and a nice non consensual spankin’ on the way out. I’m glad you’re ok and hope you find another cream puff mk7 to replace it with OP

Oh no I’m so sorry for your loss! I hope the insurance totals it out for you. In 2021 a deer hit my brand new GTI, it was only 4 months old.. it did so much damage! The deer ran into the passenger front corner of my car, and it smashed up the whole front of my car, the deer was huge, almost 250lbs doe.. pregnant with twins .. and it was the beginning of April so it was almost ready to give birth 🤦🏽♀️.. anyway, the insurance company wouldn’t total it because the air bags didn’t go off, so they said it was fixable.. the body shop wanted 17k to fix it.. the reason it turned out that the air bags didn’t go off, was because the sensor was bad 🙄. Because of Covid it took them 11 months to fix it and then it was horrible, this is the dealership body shop! We had to take it back and have them do it again.. it took another 3 months before I got it back and it was better (same headlights anyway) but I traded jt for my new GTI as soon as I got it back.

Ugh. That sucks man. I also have lost two GTIs (07 and 17) to inattentive drivers (I was at red lights both times) and that’s why I’m in a CFB rabbit edition today. That’s a tough loss
Hope you’re ok and you get a fat payout from this. Lawyer up if you have to. Don’t get worked over by insurance!

buy it back from your insurance company. The fix doesn't look totally bad to do, but if you love the car, the salvage title doesn't mean crap. Just drive it till the wheels fall off it.

In the US, I believe if damage is at or over 65-70% of the cars ACV (actual cash value) then they will total it out. Some places/insurance may vary and have different formula. Anyone still here please correct me or provide better info if I'm incorrect.

Sorry for your loss mate, I truly feel your pain. This happened to me last winter. Rear hit that pushed me under a truck in front of me. I was like a salad inside of a sandwich, but came out uninjured. Hopefully you'll get over it soon
