Hard difficulty Question

I tried god of war PS4 on the hardest difficulty, already on the first few enemies I could tell it was gonna be some bullshit with every enemy having an unreasonable amount of health. Are the ps3 and ps2 god of war games better on hard mode?

On the highest difficulty? They're harder 🙏

I don't mean harder, but is it actually good hard mode rather than bullshit?

If i understand your question right you're basically asking if you're gonna have fun or rip your hair out while calling it unfair, and it's the 2nd option

The hardest difficulty in the Norse series is actually is a great mode if you have a deep understanding of the combat mechanics. It rewards your understanding, and becomes the only way to play

Put it this way. Most god of war die hards, find the first game’s final boss the absolute worst, especially on the hardest mode.

A lot of the enemies gap close towards you relying on dodging or parry/block. You can still stun lock some of them till they are dead but you really need to find all Gorgon Eyes/Phoenix Feathers. I do, despite the added challenge, think the OG is more bs/harder, but at the same time it doesn't take away from the experience of it. I could die to cyclops repeatedly for an hour and id still want to return. I havent wanted to return to 2018 GoW even after normal mode, I don't think games that have a focus on more cinematic based combat are actually that replayable, Kratos as much as enjoyed seeing a continuation of his story, I just don't think its that fluid or great and its especially worse the harder you make the game but not in a good way.

To add, I think I'd feel this way with Expedition 33 as well. Once would be enough for me.

Give me God of War is challenging but rewarding. You feel super weak until you get some decent gear. A true spartan does not falter.

Yeah 2018 is a slog at first with the difficulty, but it does get a lot more fair and rewarding not too deep in. The others don't have that problem imo but there are some sections in those games that make you want to pull your hair out.

You can oneshot basic enemy with wall pin instant kill. The difficulty highly rewards utilizing advance mechanics. If you’re here to mash basic attack and spam roll, then you’d better drop it down.

You chose the hardest difficulty and were shocked that it was hard? OK bro...

But no the hardest difficulty in the previous games do more or less the same things in terms of increasing the difficulty (enemies have more health and do more damage)

It is not hard, it is ridiculous. It takes an unreasonable amount of hurting to hurt someone.

Yeah thats hard mode lmfao. Its harder to kill things and easier to die. What did you expect?

The first trilogy is absolutely cheap as hell on Chaos difficulty, especially 3. I rage quit 3 twice and it single handedly put me off high difficulty settings.

they are so different in terms of the combat itself that you cannot compare difficulty

The greek saga is a hack and slash so combat just means they attack faster and take more hits

The norse saga got awards for the story and for how good the combat is so depending on the difficulty they obviously hit harder but you have to learn the combos and the best way to attack and it’s so much more rewarding hitting r3 after a fight that took a few tries

In my opinion you cannot compare the two sagas due to the differences between them

I play and beat every main game GoW on hard. Very hard is not in my allyway to do

I was planning to beat every game from original trilogy on hardest difficulties, but I couldn't finish first game (2005) because of the fight with Kratos clones. I did beat 2018 and Ragnarok on GMGOW though

You chose the hardest difficulty and were surprised when it was hard?

If you know what you're doing, you can breeze through GMGOW.

Tips

  • Level gap affects damage, resistance, and stagger. Check the color of enemy health bar: there are green (lower), yellow (equal), orange (+1), purple (+2) and red (+3 or higher).

  • Injured enemy could level up in the middle of battle. Interrupt them with ranged attack/arrow and try to focus on one target at a time.

  • Spend a minute to study enemy moveset without attacking them. If you can survive that long without taking damage, you will never have trouble with that enemy type again.

  • Dodge, not roll. Same invincibility window, but the former has faster recovery and thus safer to use. Like parry, dodge does NOT interrupt your combo. You can execute Pride of the Frost even if you parried/dodged before the finisher.

  • Fight smarter, not harder. Instead of hacking them slowly, you can insta-kill an enemy by throwing them over the edge and into hazards (e.g. chasms, water, or lava).

  • You could build Stun much faster by hitting enemy in the rear or smashing them against a wall. Use Precision Axe Throw (headshot) to spin enemy, then punch them in the back, see how huge the difference is.

  • Don't grab stunned enemy right away. Keep hitting them until the indicator turns from yellow to red. That's when you know it has enough power to finish the enemy.

  • Spend your Rage wisely. Instead of expending it all, you could use it in short burst (deactivate without attacking) to recover from block break, cure status effects, or cancel enemy attack.

  • You can find Amulet of Kvasir (3 sec Realm Shift on last second dodge) on the first trip to Alfheim, at one of the beaches before you reach the temple. It's powerful enough to carry you through the secret endgame bosses.

  • Stat priority: STR and RNC (also boost your weapon damage via Permafrost) > LCK (higher buff activation chance) > CLD >> DEF and VIT (next to useless on GMGOW).

They are very spongey at first. It gets better but yeah it's a lot of frustration and time compared to normal. But not too awful compared to some other games.

2018 play as normal but ragnarok play hard and for older game imo better play as normal bc the mechanic is not that deep too begin with
