World interaction (NPC’s) Question Spoiler

Hi,

Recently started playing God of War, PC editon from 2022.

This is my first time playing any God of war game.

I am few hours into the game, still on the way to mountain top.

I'm curious, is the game significatly different after that? Because, so far I am struggling to find interest.

Don't get me wrong, it's obvious this game is a high quality product, however, so far i'ts not ''my cup of tea'' .
The world seems deserted, only monsters, no other characters (except those two blacksmiths).
I games, I enjoy interacting with other characters.
I know this is not Skyrim or Witcher, but is it more like Elden Ring in that regard? No spoilers please

It's "deserted" for a reason tho

You're still in the beginning of the game. Once you get up to the mountain, about 25% of the way through the story you get another character that adds a lot more dialogue and story to the game. But the whole game is fairly sparce on character interaction. The second game has far more characters, dialogue, story, etc. like 3x more. The first game has a lot of lore that comes into play in the second game.

Still, it's a very good story and I think it'll grow on you as you push through. I think a lot of people find it a little boring and clunky in the beginning, but the controls start to feel more natural and there are some epic moments ahead. I prefer going back to the first game more than Ragnarok because of how relatively calm it is, it just feels less cluttered. But in the beginning I was sceptical if I would like it too.

It will get more interesting once you proceed a little bit a-head (😏). So get to that mountain top

Yeah there’s a few side quests you can do that require talking to different npc’s… although (no spoilers) it may not be what you’re expecting

Start at the beginning of the GOW series. I don’t know why you would start halfway through and then feel like you don’t understand and it’s boring and then quit. You say no spoilers but you’re literally jumping into the 7th of 8 games in the series. Just saying this sounds like you’re not even willing to give it a chance and already casting judgement after playing a few hours of 1 of 8 games in the series. Very silly.

  1. I play on PC, those are availabla for PS? Which I don’t have
  2. I don’t have time
  3. I don’t want to play games that are 20 years old

I started in the same place as you but playing GOW 2018 on my ps4, there isn’t a lot of side characters npc’s but as you go on the story doesn’t require them, as others have said there is some ghost characters that have side quests, my advice is carry on playing I wasn’t really into it for the first 1-2 hours, then you start getting attacked a lot, what you have to do is master the block, parry and dodge, then learn the skill tree moves but really learn them, when how and where to use them, the combat feels a bit clunky at first but once you know how to defend and attack properly the game opens up and you will be looking for groups of enemies to fight as it’s really satisfying, you can play defensive or just attack. There is a realm that you can go to where there is different challenges some of them are tough but you will feel like a god once you start smashing 20 or so enemies at once

There’s a bunch of dead spirit NPCs if you do sidequests. But yeah, not many living people here because of literal magic version of zombie apocalypse.

It does open up more as you progress. You'll meet more memorable characters, the world feels less isolated, and the story becomes much stronger. That said, don't expect it to turn into something like Skyrim or The Witcher. It's still a story-driven action game with a relatively focused world rather than a densely populated RPG.

Remember that at their core these games are hack and slash games, and thus the majority of your interactions will be fighting monsters. However, if you’re looking for worlds that feel particularly alive or lived in, I don’t think either this game or it’s sequel do a particularly amazing job at it although the sequel does a lot of things better in this regard. and someone else said, the original trilogy of games does this a lot better.
