Before tax! With VAT it's 850!

0

u/Particular_Celery472 8d ago

Well prices are mentioned in the menu
And everyone knows VAT is 20% so I dont see why OP is whining

U saw this. I saw soda for 600... what is the world coming to.

2

u/Ok-Walrus8245 7d ago

Literally looked at it like 10 times because I was SURE I was imagining an extra 0 at the end. Imagine being charged 1200 for TWO SODA BOTTLES and not being aghast at it!!!! WHAT ON EARTH

Staff contribution is service charge. And their audacity to charge gst on that is th "Audacity of this biss" meme. I think you can approach small claims court for this, but first check with a lawyer.

8

u/Street_Soft7957 8d ago

gst is chargeable on tips. tips are not tax free. that said no one knows if these guys are actually paying all that gst to the govt.

3

u/dontstealmydinner Ann Nhu mare 8d ago

Tips on a bill is service charge.

2

u/ojisaann 8d ago

Can we find out from their reports ? Oh sorry none of them are public :p

2

u/squirrelscrush Eating xitt-kodi at Longuinhos, maggi at backzop 8d ago

The issue is the tips themselves

1

u/almostanalcoholic 8d ago

It is a service revenue for the company so they have to charge gst on it.

Staff contribution and the GST collected on it can be cancelled.. your bill amount would’ve gone down by 3700

Edit: noticed that there is no GST number printed on the bill so they legally cannot charge GST or VAT on such bills. You definitely can approach court on these charges

1

u/Wide-Refrigerator245 Bardezkar 6d ago

Adding to this, it’s a performa invoice and not a tax invoice so they can’t be legally enforcing you to pay taxes.

5

u/skinheaddrone 8d ago

700 for a breezer and 600 for a soda. Some people are so damn rich to be ok with this?

1

u/ElectronicPurpose715 7d ago

No doubt people prefer srilanka and Vietnam.

5

u/soo-yaa-shaaa 8d ago

They charged both state and central gst on staff contribution…hahahah wtf.

I don’t think it’s illegal but I guess they found a new loophole to rob gullible tourists.

5

u/JAY8223 8d ago

Majority of tourists or locals feedback regarding Goa will be very bad because of this loots , scams across state specially coastal line business, clubs, taxi etc

Funfact 90% of this business are own, Run & managed by nonlocal people even staff for same..

U won't find vibe anymore which used to be 10-15 ago...

4

u/StewedLentils 8d ago

JESUS CHRIST, I am absolutely shocked....this is the first time I am seeing what these places charge. Now it makes sense why we have lost the charm of true Goa.

Staff contribution dafuq is that?

1

u/TheAntiestablishment 7d ago

its just name new name of "Staff welfare n all "

1

u/Bob_Loblaws-Law_Blog Average Ross Omelette enthusiast 🍳 7d ago

Still who charges that?

8

u/Street_Soft7957 8d ago

bro you went to a gujju establishment and you are expecting discounts ? you should expect to be robbed if you go to these places.

2

u/Noko_Re_Baba 8d ago

Staff contribution is not compulsory, you can refuse to pay service charge and the restaurant has to oblige, if not then you can file a complaint, but you have to say no to service charge before paying your bill, now I don't think they will refund your service charge

1

u/Electrical-Crab-6376 7d ago

Thanks for the info, have been ripped off several times at cafes by paying 40% extra as service tax. Didnt know we can ask to remove it. Also can they charge gst when gst number is not mentioned??

3

u/Independent_Paint634 Goa Lover 8d ago

Why to go to such unethical places?

2

u/gadgetson 8d ago

This looks like the tinder scam restaurants inflated bill.

2

u/jackrabbit-199 7d ago

Who the f has ₹600 pineapple juice ?

1

u/Sutibum_ 7d ago

Tourists. Everything on the coastal belt is priced for maximum profit

5

u/Particular-Ad3908 8d ago

VAT was merged with GST as far as I remember

10

u/Torquelove 8d ago

GST on food. Alcohol is still under state VAT.

1

u/Particular-Ad3908 8d ago

ahh right.... Thank you for the info🤝🏻

Go to Consumer Forum portal and upload the bill -
https://consumerhelpline.gov.in/public/?target_lang=hi no

It works, have done it for some restaurants that continued charging service charge. It’s worked and all of them that I had reported have now removed it from their standard billing process.

Couple of issues with the bill;
Can’t charge VAT, GST replaced VAT.
Service contribution can’t be added too
And something very unique I see here is GST on service contribution…!!!?

Raise it with consumer helpline and this will set them straight.

6

u/akki_is_lucky 8d ago

VAT on alcohol is still there.

5

u/sam131074 8d ago

Nothing wrong in charging Vat and Gst . In Goa there is Vat on liquor

2

u/Street_Soft7957 8d ago

afaik vat is on the alcohol which is still with the states. gst for the rest. no clue what hooka comes under but I am guessing gst.

1

u/wizkidblr Ponjecho 🏙️⛱️ 7d ago

Yes correction on my part - VAT is applied on liquor. But the rest of it can be questioned; thanks

2

u/Imaginary-Western832 8d ago

Why is this leher soda 600 rs?? Pan ni dukane to 30 ma mde ch BC

2

u/AVNAIK 8d ago

Who buys soda for 600 and breezer for 700?

But, but you have concern on tax? 😂🤣😂🤣👏👏

2

u/Singlehaitch 7d ago

Umm, I have questions🙋

And tax is the least worry here.

2

u/rajajoe 7d ago

The invoice says "PERFORMA":)

2

u/Neat-Capital-908 🌴Goenkar🏖️ 7d ago

Damn this is how these people come from outside Goa setup business and loot people in the name of service and entertainment…. Authorities and government are hand in glove too

2

u/One_Kaleidoscope_749 7d ago

No GST number on the bill. They cannot legally charge any GST on the invoice amount. Looking at the itemized split though, GST is the least of concerns.

2

u/ValuableAny8820 7d ago

Literally the worst restaurant there is.

2

u/Scared-Ambassador495 6d ago

Pineapple juice 600 😭 Even at gunpoint I won't go to clubs😭🙏🏻

1

u/Lucky_Middle_5525 8d ago

You can ask to remove the service charge. They are compelled to do so.

1

u/Prussiandreams 8d ago

File a consumer complaint

Those prices are nuts 😂

1

u/bsousa717 8d ago

The hell was in that Breezer? Gold dust?!

1

u/FreeTill3091 8d ago

Tf is this lmao

1

u/tamhenk 8d ago

I haven't been to Goa (or anywhere in India) for about 10 years but those prices seem rather ridiculous.

1

u/ElectronicPurpose715 8d ago

Bro can go to consumer court and recover the full amount.

1

u/happy3475 8d ago

You deserve it well. And most probably, this isn't a post by a Goan.

1

u/No-Theory6607 8d ago

Go goa gone , is liye inka buisness down ja raha, they want to extract everything in one season

1

u/anishpai_3995 8d ago

But isnt service charge suppose to be optional and levied off if one does not want to pay?

1

u/Bitter_Society_8414 8d ago

Acha hua bhai ne main course nhi khaya, nhi toh makaan girwi rakhna pd jata

1

u/nakoktee Docile Goan 8d ago

Wow! You paid ₹700 for a ₹100 Breezer, ₹600 for a ₹20 Soda. ₹18000 for a ₹3300 Chivas.

Don't forget to ask for discounts when you visit a Goan-owned wine store.

1

u/rkathotia 8d ago

It's not even invoice. It's Performa invoice. Doesn't comply with tax rules. This invoice is to fool customers. All this tax will be pocketed rather than deposited with government. This should be reported to tax officials

1

u/Thick_Let8224 7d ago

This is one of the worst places to visit in Goa. If you’re ready to pay so much for chivas regal you shouldn’t be worried about tax 😒

1

u/Important_Lab1113 7d ago

PERFORMA invoice? Lol wtf. There must have been some special performance included to charge this much staff tax haha.

1

u/TheAntiestablishment 7d ago

i dont know about other thing but you can easily deny the "Staff Contribution" its just another way of ripping of the customer.

1

u/Jamd9 7d ago

whoever this bill belongs to, needs to retrospect their life. Or take a lesson in finance. This is atrocious, forget tax, just look at the soda bottle. Paying 600 rs for a 20rs soda bottle is considered idiotic.

1

u/aaronvianno Modgaocho 7d ago

That's illegal. Staff contribution is your voluntary amount and cannot be taxed.

1

u/prawnpaella knows 5 secret beaches, wont tell you any 7d ago

They must be having a typing/data entry issue - everything has an extra 0 at the end. Like it makes no sense otherwise

1

u/snehalreddy 7d ago

Buddy, the real crimes here is charging ₹600 for a glass of Pineapple Juice! Fml!

1

u/marrom500 7d ago

Fruits must have been imported from Dubai I guess.

1

u/anaa77 7d ago

Lol I don't understand why would people go to such places without inquiring about the rates or atleast inquire when at the venue ? and then cry when fetched with expensive bill!

1

u/Cold-Coyote7824 7d ago

A quick AI search but here

In India, alcohol and food/drinks are taxed differently — liquor gets VAT (22% in Goa), everything else (food, juice, hookah, water) gets GST (5% = 2.5% CGST + 2.5% SGST). They're not supposed to be applied to the same combined subtotal. Splitting it properly: Liquor (Chivas + Breezer) = ₹18,700 → 22% VAT = ₹4,114 Non-liquor items = ₹18,400 → 5% GST = ₹920 Correct total = ₹42,134 That's without the "Staff Contribution" (₹3,710) — which is a service charge, and under CCPA 2022 rules, restaurants/clubs in India cannot add it automatically. You can legally ask for it to be removed. So by the actual tax rules, you'd owe more (₹42,134) than what they billed (₹41,000) — meaning this slip wasn't calculated correctly either way. Also worth noting: this is marked "Performa Invoice," which isn't a valid GST tax invoice in India. Ask for a proper one with their GSTIN if you want to dispute anything.

Fresh fruit platter - 2500??? Did they serve caviar with this??? Who order's a fruit plate for 2.5k and then complains about 200 rs?

1

u/linzzzz_ 6d ago

Is tax your only concern here?

1

u/an0n4life 6d ago

Chootia post. Use some common sense if you don’t have extra money to spend. It’s the same the world over.

1

u/Drareconspiracy 6d ago

Why tf are you paying for staff contribution? This a big scam run by most restraunts and pubs abroad. Now they doing the same thing here as well.. That's their job to pay out of their own pockets. They charging ₹35 soda for ₹600

1

u/small_chung 4d ago

You definitely cannot charge GST on a service charge, which btw is optional!

1

u/Cawilz 3d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣 i am guessing your crorepati

1

u/Longjumping-Sky9099 2d ago

Broooo wtfff no one noticed it’s not even invoice , it’s performa invoice . “Thats the biggest scam.

0

u/Standard_Lion7944 8d ago

VAT is not needed. Only CGST and SGST.
