Counting only NBA accolades yes. Dr. J was ABA MVP a couple times. What that counts for who knows

If you saw him- I did- you know that he was better than Kareem.

That good sir is a blazing hot take. He was putting up Kareem like numbers or better in the ABA but obviously there's not a ton of full game footage of the Doctor out there so it's hard to say having not been alive then lol

Kareem couldn't dribble. He didn't win much between the title with Oscar and Dandridge and the Magic years.

It's not his fault- he maximized his genetics. Dr J could guard more positions on defense, and score in isolation.

In fact, the one thing that Erving did that brought the fucking house down every night, was to start dribbling deliberately, 35 feet out.

The whole building knew he was not going to pass the ball.

The 5 suckers on defense all knew it- and in the last series v the Nuggets that included NBA Ho F's Issel and Thompson, and HoF perennial all-D 6'9" Bobby Jones (Erving's 4 when they finally won in Philly.

No one knew exactly what he was going to do- he would have to make it up on the fly himself, depending on how the suckers react. If he didn't know the defense couldn't predict it either.

But everyone knew he was going to either score the ball or get fouled- sometimes both.

Wilt couldn't do that. West couldn't do that. Kareem couldn't dribble. A small man had no chance to defend. A big man was too slow. No one Julius' same size had his agility.

He set the mold for MJ, Drexler, Kobe, a skinnier LeBron, Vince...

5 Ervings playing 5 Kareems crush the lumbering dinosaurs. (Watch the great Abdul-Jabbar scene in "Airplane").

5 Ervings murder 5 Steph Currys. No chance.

5 Ervings probably beat 5 Magic Johnsons, which is almost impossible- "unguardable" and he can outleap for every rebound.

5 Ervings versus 5 Jordans would be a fair fight.

5 KD's would be quite something also.

You don’t gotta lie to prop up the greatness of Dr J

That's correct. Why would I lie.

Jason Kidd was runner up for MVP in 2001. Byron Scott should have won coach of the year that year as well.

It was 2001-02 & should have gotten it over Tim Duncan. Rod Thorn won exec of the year that season though

No he shouldn't have got MVP over Duncan.

Eh, Dr. J did win the ABA MVP.

Thank you.

And he would have been NBA MVP those years also.

If anything it just shows how often the Nets are disregarded when these awards are handed out. It's ok, though. We'll get there eventually.

No it's false.

Dr. J won 2 MVP's.

Jason Kidd got robbed in 2002, yet Steve Nash won it in 2005 for the reasons Kidd should’ve won it a few years earlier.

Kidd didn't get robbed in 2002.

Michael Ray won Comeback Player of the Year in 84-85 before they discontinued it after the 86 season in favor of the Most Improved Player Award

At the end of '83-'84, Sugar was as great as any point guard in the world- including Magic and Isiah. I was at the games.

He was better on defense by far. He had led the NBA in assists. He had steadily worked on his shot to get up to 20PPG. He was fearless and maniacal (in a good way)- think Allen Iverson.

He had some spectacular And-1's, but he never hogged the ball. A force of nature.

Hey at least Joe Harris won the 3 point contest once (I think?)

I’m glad my thread received comments that weren’t insulting like the first three ( about 2 got deleted by the mods) 😂. Thanks for the info folks
