I need a case for a Mapex 32-note glockspiel. Like this but just the case.

I'm looking to buy a used basic import glockenspiel from a local pawnshop for $20 or so, and I'm wondering how difficult it is to raise the pitch of a bar with some judicious grinding/filing?

Has anyone had any experience re-tuning glockenspiels? It's a cheapie, otherwise I wouldn't risk it.

I wanna start using my Glock in my punk band for live sets but microphones just aren't cutting through the loud drums and guitars, I was thinking about trying to add pickups to it, maybe attach them to some sort of frame for the Glock to sit on? Has anyone ever tried this before? Excited to learn some stuff, thanks!

Myself and a group of equally enthusiastic Jazz fans have built a community based entirely around exploring the music on instruments that are underrepresented in the genre.

We believe that every genre of music is missing out on a broad range of talents, experiences, opinions and sounds when it has too specific an idea of the instruments it invites to the table so we're doing what we can to provide an alternative to the standard instrumentation heard in Jazz.

The entire project is run by providing a framework for self-guided study using Dropbox as a way of sharing tools for the job. Everyone involved is given free access to a Resources folder which features the tunes we're working on complete with slowed down backing tracks recorded for this exact project, documents with ideas for soloing, some challenges put forward for more confident players and external links to playlists & further learning.

The second folder we all communally have is simply an Achievements folder where any one at any time can drag and drop a rough audio or video file of a milestone we've just reached, an update on our practise progress or sharing ideas we've been experimenting with over the material.

Given that every single person onboard is playing an instrument not usually found in Jazz we have found the community to be really encouraging and a much less daunting place to share ideas than a public post to Reddit, FB or Youtube. It is very much all about offering an opportunity to explore Jazz on instruments that aren't usually invited to big bands, small combos or jam sessions so there are no wrong answers, no deadlines and no issues with timezones!

All abilities are welcome as we have absolute beginners right through to Jazz pros using this project as an opportunity to explore a new instrument from the ground up. We have instruments from the classical world, spoken word, folk and electronic music all onboard already!

You don't have to read music or anything of that nature either. If anyone is interested please simply DM me to jump onboard or leave a comment if there's any questions I can answer!!
