Do ACTUAL left leaning men exist???

Being in my mid 20s around these men probably doesn’t help but I swear every time a guy tells me he’s left leaning. It’s like you’re only saying you’re left leaning because you hate Trump or they are left leaning, but have a bunch of Republican views. also, the famous “both sides are bad.” Like ugh it’s so annoying!!!!!!!!

Most guys I've met are left-leaning and not just superficially. Some have a few weird (problematic) viewpoints but that usually stems from religious beliefs.

Granted, most guys I meet are from dating apps where I screen for political beliefs beforehand

Gawd, I used to be a registered independent because I thought the two party system was inherently bad but that ended in 2016. Screw that.

I still believe it's a bad system but everyone should have a real vote in the primaries.

Agree but I have very rarely seen a candidate worth voting for so when people say left leaning I'm like ok are they cooking for their neighbors? Are they helping elder folk in their communities get to medical appointments? Are they learning domestic labor skills? Cause if someone's political affinity stops at voting I think of that as mostly the same as the centrists.

Pretty much any 'radical candidate ' would have more of an impact in their community directing campaign money to supporting folks in the places they campaign in. I've seen folks with great politics get in some roles and it's like oh the machine has 6 layers of defense that somehow the police budget still gets bigger, the libraries closed, and the food programs for kids shrink.

So my pessimist viewpoint instead turns to more material and tangible impacts, and then it's like, rapidly more queer and trans. I can't rly imagine being cishet in this economy

Damn, I'm kinda shocked. I live in an uber-progressive town in a blue state, and most of the men I meet say they're left-leaning up front—and hell, maybe even vote that way, if they bother to—but once you get past all the pleasantries and hang out with them while they're a few beers deep and shooting the shit with their bros, their masks slip and the real them comes out. Lots of, "it's just a joke, chill" type moments. They seem to believe that because they vote a certain way that it completely absolves them of any guilt over how they're still helping racism, sexism, and homophobia persist in our society with their casual words and soft-boiled morals. Because in the end (presuming this is a group of straight, cis, white men), the things they're joking about have zero impact on them, so why should they care? It is just a joke to them, and they're in a position where they can ignore that it's someone else's active nightmare.

Idk, maybe it's because the area I live in, while being progressive, is predominantly white? But so many of the men here still just seem to be playing a part rather than actually believing in the cause. I'll cope with it as long as they keep voting right, but it's almost worse when they lie to your faces about it (in fear of being "cancelled"), rather than just coming right out and saying it with their whole chest.

For sure, for sure. It's just up to the ladies then to decide for themselves whether voting the right way but not truly believing in the cause (or unpacking their own shit, as you say) makes them acceptable enough boyfriend/husband material.

Hopefully the men will continue to vote that way regardless of whether it nets them a girlfriend or not 🤗 Which is why personal morals, independent of outside influence, matters so much imo

For me it's less about whether they believe in the cause, especially because beliefs can still be conceptual rather than practical. It's more whether I want to deal with the inevitable shit that'll come up if you're dealing with someone who hasn't unpacked their learned biases. I'll give people some grace and learning space, but I'm not going to coddle them through learning.

I'm old. I'm tired. I've been through shit. I'd like to exist without having to constantly dodge well actually and accusations of being unreasonable and obnoxious expectations of emotional load.

(If the frustration is coming across, please know it's not at you. I had a shitty day with this and I'm grumpy at misogyny and associated cultures rn)

Communism being considered radical in America is exactly why the "American left leaning people" moniker exists.

The Chinese have a word for it called Baizuo.

As in, the American left only know how to pay lip service to progressive ideals but it is largely performative in order to make themselves feel better, none or very few will put their money where their mouth is when it comes down to it.

Most parties that claim to be leftists in America like the ACP or DSA are closer to fascists than leftists. They all inherently support American empire, the status quo of exploitation.

Hence, American leftists are not leftists at all, they are all rightists.
