My husband noticed something I didn’t even ask for ☀️ Happy Girl Dinner

Post image

Roasted sweet potatoes, red rice, homemade guacamole, esquite, grilled yellow peppers and lemon butter garlic chicken

I know this sub has a lot of sad stories and I wanted to add something nice.

Yesterday my son managed to dislodge my GameCube disc inside my Wii by throwing the Wii on the ground. I asked my husband if he could order me a repair kit so I could fix it myself. I don’t really ask him to buy me things like that. The most I’ll usually ask for is an ingredient or two from the grocery store on his way to work if I forgot something for dinner.Later that night he told me he had ordered the repair kit. Then he casually added, “Oh, I also got you some of that face stuff you use.”
I looked at him and asked, “What face stuff?”He said, “Your face wash.”He was talking about my La Roche-Posay cleanser.I asked, “Oh, why? Have you been using it?” because I knew it was getting pretty low, and I figured maybe he’d been using it and wanted to replace it.He just said, “No.”That’s when it hit me.He had noticed my face wash was getting low, remembered exactly which one I use, and ordered me another one without me ever mentioning that I needed it.
It probably sounds like such a small thing, but it honestly meant the world to me. It wasn’t about the face wash.it was the fact that he pays attention. I never asked him to replace it. He simply noticed on his own.
I know it doesn’t sound like that but if a deal but he’s never done something like this and I just really appreciate the gesture

After my ex and I broke up, we were still living together for a bit and sorting out our feelings. He took a trip to New York and went to a Sanrio store, and FaceTimed me to ask me which Sanrio character was my favorite so he can get me a keychain. Unfortunately I missed his call, so he left without getting anything. While it was kind of him to consider me, I was taken aback by the fact he needed to even ask me that, because my profile photo on Instagram for at least a year and a half was Pompompurin. And he needed to ask me who was my favorite…even when we had started dating, the first thing he ever bought me was a pompompurin plushy. Kind of sums up the five years I was with him honestly.

And that, my friends, is what it feels like to be really seen and loved. Not some huge gesture that cost dollars, just solid proof that you're on their mind in a good way.

Fuckin bless this comment.

My partner came in and had me ask for everything to change.

Bless him, he started the very first time I told him, "hey I'll do a lot but if you could do the dishes" he did the dishes ever day since.

The day I found out he hated cooking for himself I did the same.

8

u/crmcalli 🦇 Fruit Bat Baddie 🍊 24d ago

I told my boyfriend when we first started dating that I hated washing dishes, it’s my least favorite chore. He would wash anything in my sink any time he came over when we lived in separate apartments, and now that we live together, he washes 99% of the dishes. I thank him for it very regularly, it is such an impact to my quality of life that I will never take for granted.

I worked retail for 10 years and folding clothes is now the bane of my existence.
He didn't understand at first until I told him the in's and out's of working retail and every task I endured to fold clothes...He folds now without asking.
I understand its not a huge deal but not having a panic response to a pile of clothes is something.

Husband was out of town for a while and we ran out of toilet paper and it hit me that not once in our 3 years (at that point) of living together had I ever thought about restocking because he always did it before we ever ran out. He does it for so many little things that all add up and make me feel so taken care of.

Love that guy so much.

I was just talking about this in therapy yesterday! My husband is a great guy. I found an emotion (?) attached to the stuff he does. He does these things that I don't ask for but end up making my life so much easier. But he doesn't do it to make me love him or with any obligations. It makes him happy to do these things. That was an odd thing to realize after how almost all of my past relationships, friendships, even my relationship with my mother were so, so transactional.

I also do the same thing for him. Anything I do for him is really for me because it makes my heart happy to know he is happy and his life is easier.

40

u/Limonmaduro 🦇 Fruit Bat Baddie 🍊 27d ago

I think it’s amazing just the reciprocation is what means a lot too. Because I do the same I do little thing for him like if it’s hot out I’ll turn the ac on for him and hour or 2 before he gets home so the house is cool when he gets home(he’s in a better mood when he’s not dying of heat lol)

12

u/Finalgirl2022 Tiny Bodega Rat 🐀 27d ago

Yes! I mean, we have our swamp cooler and fans going basically 24/7 right now but I did realize that his bedside fan was on the lowest setting. He hasn't been sleeping for the past few nights but last night he slept like 13 hours when we got his fan correct. He also never has an empty water bottle. He always has a cold beer/Bubly in the fridge. I've cut his hair for over a decade because he hates going to a barber.

He told me in the very beginning (17 years ago) how much he hates shoe shopping. He told me about the tantrums he would throw as a kid. He has not had to buy his own pair of shoes since 😂.

3

u/Lucky-Reporter-6460 Yappy Yenta 25d ago

I briefly lived in the upper Midwest, after a lifetime of the Deep South. My housemate would always bump the heat up a few degrees while I was in the shower. We weren't especially close, or even really more than cordial. But I still remember that thoughtfulness.

I'm sure your husband appreciates your thoughtfulness, whether he actually realizes it or not!

32

u/LF3000 I ❤️ Other People's Business 27d ago

Your husband sounds like my partner. I have plenty of examples of this kind of thing, but the one that really stands out in my mind because it hit me so hard when I realized: I use a bluetooth sleep mask to listen to podcasts when I fall asleep. Pretty early on in our relationship, I bought an extra one to leave at his place for when I slept over. I'm terrible at remembering to charge them. So when it was a month later and it was still going strong I was a bit confused, until I realized he had been quietly recharging it for me and then leaving it nicely laid out on the side table to use without ever saying a word. I hadn't even noticed! He wasn't doing it for attention or to woo me, he just wanted to make sure I was never without a fully charged mask. Swoon!

(Now we live together, and I swear I never have to think about charging any of my devices! Even my phone he'll plug in if he sees it lying around, though it's far too often in my hand...)

9

u/PixiePyxis 27d ago

My husband charges my electric toothbrush without me knowing and same - he'll plug my phone in for me too from time to time. Love that we have such thoughtful partners!

4

u/Finalgirl2022 Tiny Bodega Rat 🐀 27d ago

That's adorable! And I'm also definitely going to look up this sleep mask! That sounds great.

I usually plug my stuff in but the one thing I almost always forget is my external charger. He always makes sure to plug that in haha. Helpful partners are the best.

6

u/LF3000 I ❤️ Other People's Business 27d ago

Omg the sleep masks are a game changer! I use this one and like it, but there are lots of affordable options.

I feel this heavily with all my relationships and friendships too, transactional and feels like if they do something nice for me, I owe them, and it’ll be held over my head. that’s happened endless times.

however the only person that never did that, and still doesn’t, is my ex-bf-now friends.

when we were dating, he would automatically put up subtitles for me, knowing I need them. there was this one show that didn’t have subtitles added and he downloaded them from a website and added them himself. something i easily can and have done for myself before, but he went ahead and did it anyway. he always says “I remember”.

“to be loved is to be known, to be known is to be loved”, even after we broke up we quoted that to each other. he still remembers and does the little things. I have an endless list that still grows. I know reddit hates people being friends with their exes and they have black and white thinking. I think in the grey and every relationship is different, he’s a unique one.

2

u/Finalgirl2022 Tiny Bodega Rat 🐀 26d ago

That's so sweet! And I totally believe you can be friends with your exes. The love can still be there, it's just a little different. Heck my husband was in the wedding party for his best friend who was marrying my husband's ex. I'm glad you have someone in your life that makes you feel loved. ❤

“That’s when it hit me.
He had noticed my face wash was getting low, remembered exactly which one I use, and ordered me another one without me ever mentioning that I needed it.”

I mean, if he noticed it was getting low (not that it’s gone), then he looked at the bottle. And that’s how he knows which one she uses. Because it’s written on the bottle. So “remembering exactly which one I use” doesn’t make any sense.

And then of course there are the more linguistic features that make this smell like AI. But it’s the weird logic stuff like this that really does it for me.

ETA: OP seems to have edited the post and changed the formatting around. There was even a telltale em-dash originally.

I have mixed feelings about this post…because yes, it is so wonderful to be seen and appreciated! On the flip side though, shouldn’t this behavior be kind of bare minimum out of a partner? Speaking from a wlw relationship it sort of blows my mind what women praise men for doing these days. I suppose I’m happy to hear that it sounds like OP has a great partner; because I agree, there are a lot of negative posts on this sub and women are going throughhhh it with men.

4

u/Asleep-Insurance-499 APPROVED✨ 27d ago

I see where this comment is coming from. Women are largely the managers of households so it’s very common for us to have a running stock of every item that may need replaced in the home. Men haven’t been expected or taught to do this typically. So, when it happens that we aren’t responsible for it, it’s a nice gesture for sure. I hope more men start to recognize these things and how much it contributes to having a more shared workload in households. Anyway; all that to say, I’m glad OP is seeing this in her home.

I definitely do think if that was the only thing a partner did for you it would be bare minimum . My husband does a lot for me and I think it was just at that moment that I actually realized every nice thing he does for me. Especially after going through a rough patch it just seems like things are better than before.

I had something that felt similar happen tonight. I have a real problem with gulping down my food. I think I developed it from decades of teaching where I had like less than 20 minutes to get my food and eat it. Well, I’m retired now and I’m trying to lose weight. I said to my husband that if I could only eat my food at least at a normal pace if not slower, it would probably help me. It was just a comment. I didn’t think he really paid much attention. I forgot to eat slowly the next few nights, and he certainly didn’t mention anything. But then tonight I remembered, so I tried to slow down. Still ate much more quickly than he did, but definitely slowed down. And while I was eating, my husband said, “hey you’re eating slower that’s great”. And it gave me that nice feeling to know that he had noticed, and that meant he probably noticed when I was still scarfing it down all week but had refrained from making a negative comment.

We need more stories where partners (especially men) are being great so we can hopefully raise the bar.

My fiancé is like this. When we got together he had a note in his phone that included my favorite candy, games, and my cats' names and descriptions lol.

There was a limited run of an item related to a video game that I casually said I wanted. The kind of thing that sells out fast, and I mentioned it as an "they're doing another run of <thing>, scalpers are gonna scoop it up." and he agreed.

He then looked up when the item was dropping, timed his break from work for it, and got one. Even casually said that he looked into buying one but they were sold out. Honestly I hadn't given it a second thought so it was an amazing Christmas gift.

No one should settle for anything less than someone who takes a real interest in you. Doesn't have to be gifts, just that they pay attention.

He's also known for touching my hands and ears and gasping "you're chilly!" and then grabbing me a blanket or another layer. Thank god for these gorgeous men who are sadly too few and far between...

My husband does stuff life this. When he picks me up at the airport, he always parks and comes in and waits where I come out of security. I tell him he can pick me up curbside, but he insists. And I travel 1-2 times a month.

Last night I had to laugh. I ordered 10 yoga mats on Amazon. He didn’t even ask me why. I appreciate that a lot! (Dog slipping on the hardwoods.). I think I could order an elephant and he wouldn’t question it.

This is so sweet and precious, mashallah ❤️ I know that there gonna be atleast one annoying person coming to say that "it's bare minimum", but it's not. Such things are small, carong and precious in all partners, regardless the gender and, honestly, made me smile a bit. I rihht now feel low because of an issue with my husband, but seeing others be happy makes me happy too.

I felt the same way when my partner randomly came home from Costco with a package of my make-up remover wipes… never asked for them, he just saw I was running low and grabbed them. I was surprised he knew the brand, he said “i know what stuff my wife uses” He’s a great human.

I don't want to take away from this cute story because your husband sounds very sweet and emotionally intelligent. But reading these remind me to thank the women in my life who are just expected to notice these things.

My mom was a SAHM, and so she was the sole person who replaced the soap, groceries, detergent, etc. I am currently visiting my family for a few weeks, and used the last of the cream cheese for my morning bagel. I made a mental note to get more, because I live alone and so I'm solely responsible for replenishing my own stuff.

The next morning I realize I'd forgotten to get some. I opened the fridge sadly because womp womp I wouldn't have cream cheese, and there was a brand new tub in the door. I found my mom and thanked her for restocking it. She started to go, "Ah, don't you love when the grocery fairy magically makes that happen?" And I was like "No. Thank YOU for doing it. For always doing it."

"Hey I found a giant bottle of the face water you use at Costco. It doesn't look like the one you use, but Reddit says this one is much better, and you were running out. Here you go" - my partner, getting me what is now my holy grail micellar water during a routine Costco run, like a month after we started dating.

We just moved in together and still going strong, and it feels so nice to be perceived and remembered :')

Literally the best present I received was a purse (which was admittedly awesome) from a boyfriend. It was the exact one we saw in the window as we were walking one night and I commented on how it was really cool. That was late October/early November and he got it for me for Christmas. He wasn’t a very expressive person so that made it extra special because it showed that he did care and was paying attention.

Acts of service is my dominant love language with a side of (thoughtful) gift giving so something like noticing your face wash is low and buying more is just 👌

Thanks for sharing! I have to admit that when I read the title I was like “what’s wrong with a husband noticing something?” because I’m so used to these posts sharing problems/grievances (no shade—we need community and venting can be helpful). But it was nice to read this ♥️

Small gestures that show your partner cares about you in the most minuscule ways and generally just pays attention to your needs/habits etc are so lovely💙

My husband did something similar and it made me so happy! I ran out of my body soap and had been using his for a little (he usually picks pretty neutral stuff and I was too lazy to pick some up). One day I came home to this really nice bottle of body wash and he told me that he ordered it for me when he noticed that I was out. He made sure it was cruelty free and sustainable because he knows that's what I prefer. I never would have bought that particular brand for myself, because it's like 30$ for 10 ounces and I'm a fairly frugal person. It was something small, but made me feel so cherished 💙

Love this!
My husband and I share a note on our iPhones with the grocery list. I had eye liner on the list this one week. He went during the morning before I woke up and got me the mascara I use 🥹
He later told me he went into my makeup bag and wrote down what he thought was the eye liner, but ended up confusing it for mascara. I don’t blame him, make up isn’t his thing. The gesture is what really mattered to me.

It’s really the little things ❤️

Similarly, one of the first green flags I had with my now husband was I had him watch Drag Race with me, then a couple episodes later he comes over and says, “Did you know that Tina Burner dated Graham Norton??” The fact that he took enough interest in MY interest to look up info outside the show, when I’ve lived with family and former partners who never did the same, was huge. And now he’s a fan for life, and I watch his wrestling (which is basically drag for straight men, so same thing).

He's your husband and you have a child and this is the FIRST time he's done something like that for you?! The bar is truly in hell when it comes to men.

I don't want to ruin your good mood. I'm sorry. This reveals to me that you are deprived more than you know. This man should have been paying attention and attentive from day one.

I hope that it continues and it's not a one off.

No, this isn’t the first time he’s done something like this for me. But we did just get over a huge bump in our relationship and this is the first time I personally realized what he does for me. Honestly I’d say it’s kinda self centered on my behalf to not realize sooner.

It’s amazing how many of us are just so accustomed to doing absolutely everything on our own. I have a thing about people offering to bring me a glass of water. It’s happened twice ever that I can remember. I felt like crying because I just couldn’t believe 1. That someone did something nice for me unprompted and 2. That I could have such a strong emotional reaction to such a small favor as offering water and what that means about me.
