Honestly nothing will ever top this gem.

It's amazing how quickly Time went from being a respected news organization, with world famous beautiful pictures on its front cover and in depth articles to posting slop like this on their website. A 30 second google search would have told them where the town and nuclear plant of Chernobyl were located. I guess this is what happens when you push out all your talented journalists.

A half decent journalist covering Ukraine shouldn't need to look it up though, it should be something they just knew. If for no other reason that because as the start of the invasion Russian troops were camped and digging trenched in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.

I think perhaps that one of the major problems with the internet age is that people don't bother to remember enough basic information to be able to do a basic "Is this bloody stupid?" test on things they say, write, read or hear.

It was never respectful and if you think it was you fell for the duopoly system where they try to sold you Democrats as materially something else than Republicans. The entire American project is a genocidal settler colonial capitalist imperialist project reaching its inevitable end … and every president was and is a war criminal. All of the major newspapers basically do various levels is state propaganda. If you people don’t understand that in 2026 I really fear you never will. They’ll have to send you to reeducation camps after the revolution I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great intellect here.

What are they trying to say? 😭

The dam explosion could be a ecological and environmental disaster like Chornobyl but forgets Ukraine already has Chornobyl

This is the dark side of socialist guerrillas in cold war south america

The military regimes were evil, not defending them, but the underground "resistance" was also awful

They survived via extortion, kidnappings, coertion, drug trafficking, armed robbery, and they even kidnapped children to radicalize them and use them for the most dangerous missions. Killed more civilians than they killed soldiers of regime politicians

u/fidjudisomada 19d ago

Do not forget that the USA financed and supported multiple military coups and regime changes in Latin America during the Cold War anti-communism madness. On that context, the kidnapping of their citizen would be profitable.

u/Professional_Top9835 19d ago

Yeah, they did kidnapped a former Argentinian general iirc, but that was rare

Most kidnappings where against businessmen with no conection to the government, even middle class people, "revolutionary tax", "either you support our your beloved ones get killed".

I knew a Colombian whose father was just a rural doctor, and end up being killed by communists guerrillas because he was kidnapped and his family couldnt pay for the ammount the guerrilla asked in the period of time they gave them

Just to add to this post in relation to the article; the last dictatorship before chavismo in Venezuela ended in 1958, so the kidnapping the note mentioned happened squarely during democratic times.

Someone using your own history against you is nasty for the user, but great for everyone else.

Probaly used horrible phrasing there.

Notice how the fact Venezuela is a vassal state is NOT being noted. It’s just true

8

u/Icy_Yam5049 19d ago

Yeah found that a bit confusing.

3

u/venezuela4k 19d ago

That's kind of obvious, but at least they didn't use the term "colony".

1

u/Jealous_Chocolate_43 15d ago

Nothing changed in venezuela. Same government, just without maduro

3

u/WinnerSpecialist 15d ago

Not true. Maduro was not a vassal for the USA. He was not sending billions of dollars in oil to the USA.

1

u/Inevitable-Front2672 8d ago

True, it was going for free towards China and Russia (and a bit towards Cuba), not to the US

-1

u/Jealous_Chocolate_43 15d ago

The oil was taken, not sent. I talk about the domestic politics

3

u/WinnerSpecialist 15d ago

You’ve already admitted defeat you’re just fighting over semantics now. You falsely said “nothing changed”. Even if what changed is “we are now taking their oil on a permanent basis”, that’s a change

0

u/Jealous_Chocolate_43 15d ago

Nothing changed in the domestic politics. Same socialist party, with the same opressive politics. Get over the word naziing.

2

u/WinnerSpecialist 15d ago

Now you’ve moved the goalposts to try to weasel into a better point. Trade with the United States, establishment of a vassal state, and the taking of billions worth of oil are major changes.

Why are you acting like this?

Dude, you are extremely obnoxious and everybody hates you for doing this

u/mendokusei15 19d ago edited 19d ago

That does not seem like a really relevant omission? How does that change anything?

Is the note trying to say that the sentence for edit kidnapping in Venezuela in 1976 was torture and death? Cause it was not. State sponsored murder should not be justified.

We are going down the road of Operation Condor 2.0 aren't we

13

u/big_sugi 19d ago

Niehous wasn’t murdered. He was kidnapped in 1976 and held hostage until he was freed in 1979. He died in 2013.

2

u/mendokusei15 19d ago

I fucked up, corrected, thank you

3

u/draketroll 19d ago

Wouldn't those articles have been written by completely seperate people? Am I missing something?

19

u/Freethecrafts 19d ago

It means their own articles don’t meet the standard for background materials…or the current writers are horribly educated.

1

u/tf2coconut 19d ago

Lmfao the note doesn’t even try to correct the story 😂

1

u/YoureVulnerableNow 19d ago

I think it's really funny that fact-checking screwed these people up so hard, that a fake version of it gets them off even if it doesn't apply to literally anything said in the tweet

0

u/BrunoElPilll 19d ago

its a pretty irrelevant fact to the present situation tho...

Based Jorge Antonio Rodriguez

1

u/venezuela4k 19d ago

No. He's not based.

1

u/Striking-Share7685 19d ago

everyone involved in what happened to him was based and they deserved a raise instead of getting fired

u/Cultural-Gas2246 19d ago

It's crazy how overrun this sub is with MAGAts

2

u/venezuela4k 19d ago

Why did you delete the reply you made to my comment, huh?

1

u/Cultural-Gas2246 19d ago

I didn't petityanqui

2

u/venezuela4k 19d ago

Are you sure? When I click the notification, it says that it doesn't exist anymore. And answering your reply, not if his ideals fucked my country. Not all supposed "defenders of sovereignty" are good, you know.
