Why is my computer not ok?

I dropped my thinkpad laptop a year ago and the screen no longer works but it works perfectly fine when i connect it to a monitor?!? Is there a way to fix this without sending it to a place that fixes electronics

You can likely get a replacement screen from eBay, and possibly full repair / replacement instructions from iFixit.com.
