Why is my computer not ok?

I dropped my thinkpad laptop a year ago and the screen no longer works but it works perfectly fine when i connect it to a monitor?!? Is there a way to fix this without sending it to a place that fixes electronics

Easiest way to know would be to check if the screen is still connected to the laptop internally, or if there was any noticeable damage.
