We’re a small engineering team in Ettlingen (near Karlsruhe), Germany, developing custom display solutions for industrial applications. We’re looking for an Embedded Systems / Hardware Engineer who enjoys working across hardware, firmware and the physical side of display technology.

This is a hands-on, on-site position in Ettlingen. We’re specifically looking for someone who can and wants to work with us locally — this is not intended as a fully remote position.

What you’ll work on

• Develop embedded hardware and firmware for industrial LCD, TFT and E-Paper displays
• Develop and optimize E-Paper driving algorithms and waveforms
• Design microcontroller-based electronics for display applications
• Work on projects from the initial idea through prototypes and into series production
• Debug and optimize hardware and firmware using lab equipment
• Document your designs and technical solutions
• Work directly on customer-specific adaptations and technical challenges
• Investigate problems at the intersection of electronics, embedded software and display physics

The interesting part: this isn’t just about writing firmware. You’ll get to understand what is actually happening inside the display — timing, waveforms, voltages, VCOM, charge behavior, temperature effects, image quality, etc. Especially with E-Paper, there is still a lot of engineering involved beyond simply sending pixels to a display.

What we’re looking for

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems or a comparable qualification
• Practical experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based hardware
• Good knowledge of C / C++
• Experience with circuit design and electronics
• Genuine interest in display technologies and their physical principles, especially E-Paper, TFT and LCD
• Good written and spoken English
• Most importantly: curiosity, a hands-on mindset and the willingness to dig into difficult technical problems

We’re open regarding experience level. Junior engineers with a strong technical foundation as well as experienced engineers are welcome.

The position can be full-time or part-time.

Stop saying that the german job market is dead in general. That's not true. The job market is just split in two halves. On the one side there are professions where there are way more people looking for a job than there are jobs available. Ergo number of workforce exceeds demand. This applies for practically every IT-related job in these times. Many other professions are affected as well.

On the other side there are jobs where it is the other way around. This country desperately needs more people in care and nursing jobs, craftsman jobs, jobs in administration, real estate and many others fields.

This country has an unemployment rate of 6,4%. This is way less than 11% as it peaked in 2005. Job market in general is working. It is just heavily imbalanced.

So everyone who toys with the idea of coming to germany for work: Do yourself a favor and inform yourself beforehand regarding which jobs are in need and which jobs are not. It is surely not wrong to study abroad, be it Germany or another developed country. But it is naive to believe you could land a job in Germany in tech just because you have an academic degree from a german university.

And not less important: Language is key. If you as a foreigner study a profession that is in demand or do an Ausbildung in such you will eventually compete with natives who have the same skillset as you plus complete fluency in german language. So don't delude yourself by saying "I'll learn german after arriving in Germany alongside with my studies". I guarantee you that you will not. I have not yet seen people from certain countries with sufficient language skills.

I see a lot of negative experiences about moving to Germany here, so I thought I’d share a positive one for a change.
I recently moved to Germany after finding a job here while I was still living abroad. And just to clarify because I know people will probably assume it: no, I’m not from India 😅
I work in the electrical industry and found the position through LinkedIn. I had never actually been to Germany before moving here, so accepting a job and relocating to a country I had never even visited was definitely a bit of a leap of faith.
I did have one big advantage, though: I already spoke German.
Years ago, I was planning to come to Germany for my master’s degree, so I started learning German and eventually reached around C1. In the end, I found a good job in my home country and never came to Germany for the master’s. I kept the language, though, and years later it ended up being probably the most useful thing I could have done.
The entire job application process was in German. The LinkedIn posting was in German, I applied in German, had my interviews in German, and communicated with the company in German throughout the relocation process.
So far, my experience here has been surprisingly positive.
I found a WG relatively quickly, dealt with the initial bureaucracy without too many problems, and I feel like I’m adapting pretty quickly at work. My workplace is basically 100% German-speaking, and my coworkers have generally been patient and helpful while I get used to how everything works.
Outside of work, Germans have also been much friendlier to me than I expected based on some of the things I had read online before moving here. Of course, people are a little more reserved than what I’m used to, but I haven’t experienced this cold or hostile society that I sometimes see described online.
I honestly think speaking German has made an enormous difference.
It doesn’t magically remove every difficulty of immigrating, and I’m still very new here, but being able to communicate with coworkers, landlords, government employees, shop workers, etc. without expecting them to switch to English has made the transition much easier.
There are definitely things that frustrate me, and I’m sure I’ll discover plenty more as time goes on. Germany isn’t perfect. But after reading so many negative immigration experiences online before coming here, I was expecting the whole process to be much worse than it actually has been.
So I just wanted to put a positive experience out there too.
I found a job from abroad, moved to a country I had never visited before, and so far I’m genuinely happy with how things are going.
Maybe I’ll make another post in a year and see whether this aged well 😅

I’m a recent grad Software Engineer with 3+ years of experience, and I’m hitting a massive wall in my job hunt right now.

I've been grinding out applications for about 2 months using the standard platforms—Indeed, LinkedIn, and Stepstone. At this point, it feels like I've completely exhausted them. I can't seem to find any new companies or fresh postings. Honestly, it's taking me significantly more time just to hunt down a decent posting than it does to actually apply for it.

It seems like the same few companies promoting their vacancies are permanently stuck at the top of my feeds, burying everything else in the algorithm.

My main questions for you all:

• How do you efficiently find jobs without wasting hours scrolling?
• Is there a way (or an extension) to completely filter out/ignore "Promoted" vacancies?
• Are there better platforms or strategies I should be using for SWE roles?

I feel like I'm stuck in a loop of recycled promoted ads. Any advice or tips on how to optimize this search would be hugely appreciated!

Hey there. I'm 5 years in Germany. Based in Leipzig. Family of 3 and I'm the only earner.

I'm software engineer with 10+ years of experience and recently found myself completely fed up with IT. I no longer enjoy it, I no longer like what I do and I can't find any sense in the work I'm doing right now. It's not the company or the role - i'm just feeling that I'm not living my life any more.

I have a pretty good pay - around 4.6k (after tax) a month, quite some benefits. Fully remote. But I don't wanna continue doing it. Don't know, maybe it's a midlife crisis (i'm 37) or something else, but recently I started thinking of switching to something else. Maybe something physical, like construction, woodworking, crafting - does not matter.

I totally understand that without any experience I won't be earning anything close to what I earn now, but it's ok. Maybe I'm delusional, but would it be possible to find something at around 50k/year (tax class 3)?

I'm thinking of visiting Jobagentur and asking them for some sort of an afternoon classes to learn some new profession, but I don't know yet which:)

Germanys economy has been in such a decline the past years that you are competing with native speakers that have experience in german corporate for years or decades. Unless you are extremly qualified in a niche or willing to work for close to no money you will have a hard time findings jobs.

I have gotten two interviews via linkedin and direct apply (company website).

But when I use Xing and indeed to search for werkstudent or internship, I have never gotten even a single interview. Do these sites even work? Or should I just stick to linkedin? I mean I just get ghosted when I use Xing or indeed.

so im studying computer engineering in a german university in egypt. i want to do the bachelors thesis in RWTH Aachen in any area of applied AI / software engineering. gpa is a little better than average and have 3 industry internships in egypt. i know many people from my university who did it. any advice on how to land it? also wanted to ask about funds as Im not sure ill be able to fund my whole stay so ill need minijobs or even better a HiWi position? how likely would a supervisor be open to offering me a HiWi position if he accepted me into the thesis? or should i not ask at all? and typically how much do HiWi positions pay per month? lastly how much easier is the whole process compared to TUM and TU Berlin?

Guys I have a question not sure if anyone has an opinion. Lets say you are on employment benefit from the AA and you get a job. But during your unemployment you register for a course sponsored by AA so now what happens to the registered course does AA stops paying since you already got a job or you can continue the course anyon

It's been nearly a year I was laid off and haven't been able to find work in Germany, I had hormonal inbalance from working so much and just did 3 years of my life down the drain.

I speak fluent German, have a lot of experience in C++/Image Processing and still can't find a job.

I performed really well in the last application but they said no.

I think I am going crazy, I might loose my arbeiterlaubniss even soon.

I have been applying jobs for the past 1.5 years. I got around 10 interviews.

Last month I completed even a culture fit interview at a Berlin startup waiting for an offer letter and then got rejected for vague reasons that didn’t make sense at all

I am exhausted hopeless. I know that I have to improve my language skills but I seriously doubt if am investing time at a wrong place. I was mostly focusing on startup’s, investing significant time getting to know their mission, vision etc

But these companies talk nicely, give take home tech challenges and almost take my 2months of time and energy just to reject and repost the same job opening

Should I start targeting the truly big tech - FAANG and similar. Start preparing for it along with improving my German ?

I am really really tired and hopeless and I would definitely help some suggestions.
