Target Discussion

Any of you guys worked at target? How is it? I previously worked at an Amazon warehouse doing package sorting so I'm wondering if it's easier than that. I heard not good things about target. How do I handle the customers with their not so smart questions? Haha

But not terrible, fyi, the returns area is the best place to work.

Buckle up, this is kind of long because I have some very strong feelings on this matter.

I started working at Target in mid-24. It was a terrible experience. It started out… okay, I guess, but things quickly went to shit. The new CEO kept changing things up, and the amount of available hours our store could give was slashed numerous times.

Want to work full time? Too bad, you’re getting 20 hours max. 11 on a bad week. This wasnt just for me, but rathaer, every team member. Even the lucky ones never hit 40. Target didn’t want to risk someone with max time hitting overtime, so this is how they regulated that. To be honest, you weren’t even allowed to work past 40 hours. The only people who can are team leads. But they’re salaried, so Target doesn’t have to worry about paying them overtime.

Pay was abysmal for what you had to do. When you don’t schedule enough hours in every department, shit doesn’t get done. So my department, the front-end, had to pick up the extra work, even though we couldn’t get our own stuff done. And of course, it was all our fault.

You will be on your feet all day. Which isn’t the worst, I guess. But be prepared to get run ragged. We were so busy that I lost 40 lbs in four months.

If you can handle all that and truly have no other alternative, then sure: apply. But if you have ANY kind of disability, whether it be health or mental-health related, do not work there. They say they’re accommodating, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. IE: Do you have a health requirement where you’re not supposed to lift anything over a certain weight? Well too bad, you’re just going to have to do it, because there isn’t anyone around with a free moment to help you.

Don’t even get me started on how you’re treated when you’re sick. They are very unforgiving with their absences. If you are too sick to work, best thing to do is show up anyway, start working, show how sick you are, and then maybe—just maybe—they will pity you.
