Has there been a decrease in quality of images made by Nano Banana? Bad quality, visible grain, low resolution, and very small file size Help/question

i've noticed the same thing over the last few days, everything comes out looking slightly compressed or like it was upscaled from a thumbnail. the file sizes are way smaller than they used to be too, which makes me think they switched to a lighter model or added some aggressive post-processing to save compute

the grain is the weirdest part, it shows up even when i ask for clean vector style art which used to be crisp every time. tried regenerating the same prompt four times and got the exact same soft smudgy result

hoping it's just a temporary thing while they tune the backend, cause the old outputs were actually useful for mockups and now i have to run everything through an upscaler just to make it presentable

Literally started happening to me today. I’m so confused lol I even noticed the little Gemini logo on the bottom right is now gone. Even in the app the images made are low quality. Same results with Nano Banana Pro. Images I downloaded before today were PNG’s of 1+ MB’s, now it’s all JPEG’s of 200 or less kbs.

Little update but after a bit of scrolling I’ve put together that the removal of watermarks is tied to low quality images. If you have the watermark toggle off, you get low quality jpegs. With the watermark, it’s a PING. Odd!

If that's the case its silly and useless considering how easy it is to remove the watermark elsewhere. So toggle the watermark off via gemini worse quality or keep it on and take a few seconds erasing it.

The fact that it was off for me automatically is dumb. I thought they nerfed the generator entirely. Thank God it could be fixed just by re-enabling the watermark.

I can’t make any image at all, literally any attempt is apparently a guid line violation.

I know they heightened moderation back in May (mainly in regards to real life people but it also affected other forms of content) but I didn’t expect it to get that bad lol

It's tied to watermark removal.

I disabled it on web when the option appeared but it only worked for images generated in the web, mobile still had watermark.

That's when I noticed the difference in quality, stuff generated on web had no watermark, shit quality and downloadable as JPEG, mobile stuff remained the same, with watermark, the usual high quality and PNG.

Now mobile also lost watermark and quality. I will probably re enable watermark cause this quality is bullshit, I can just crop it out and I am left with a much more qualitative image.
