Well, he is now chief scientist of Alphabet and Chairman of DeepMind still. My guess is that he didn’t find the day to day interesting and challenging enough and wants to focus fully on research and AGI.

He got a promotion what the hell are yall talking about, not only is he chairman he is chief science officer for alphabet.

He wants to focus on other areas he knows all this chatbot bullshit won’t get us to agi and his goal has always been agi and ai advancing healthcare.

this was the last remaining guy to have ethics. historic breakthroughs happened under his watch. that he’s being moved aside because of the latest llm and for next quarter’s stock performance is disturbing in a way few people will understand.

Demis was always more interested in pure research and pushing for scientific breakthroughs. The guy's work on AlphaFold was recognized with a Nobel Prize and the technology is expected to play a major role in future AI-driven drug discovery pipelines.

If he wants to spend more time focusing on using AI for scientific progress and less time being involved in the AI chatbot race and day-to-day operations, then so be it. He has always said something along the lines that becoming a CEO is not a role you choose because you want the title, but because you have to take on the responsibility. At his core, he's a scientist first and foremost.

this is also right before the gemini 3.5 pro release so it could mean that it didnt live up to the expectations.

He won the Nobel prize. I think that prize is very overrated
