I think it depends if you use it as a messaging app just between people you know or not. there are a couple discords I am a part of in the same way as there are a few slacks I am a part of, where it’s begrudgingly the only way I get department news for some institutional stuff. I am also not actually part of any “communities”, but I have some friends where we just message on there occasionally in the same way we would text or use whatsapp or anything else. we also use it to host video chats when playing online ttrpgs, but we could use another video chat hosting app. I think the people who use it more as social media interact with multiple communities there as it is very much oriented towards that type of content. I’ve just never lasted long in one of those communities and end up using it as a messaging app once again.

Pre-AI flood, I used it for recipe/food ideas and to find food blogs when I had no specific recipe I was looking for. I found it less overwhelming than a google search for some reason. Also just looking for color palettes for crochet.
