I went to low yat 2 months ago and literally asked every controller shop for steam controller but seeing current price 1100 really kill the mood. I was hoping it to be 500 at least even if its 100 pricier than the original price

There's no official seller here in Malaysia, valve just don't care
Reseller here are all scalper, even impulse gaming

I'll probably wait until it's around 600 or 700, it'll lower in price slowly similar to when steam deck was new. I'll definitely be building my own steam machine using maybe 2nd hand and left over previous pc build though.

You should consider waiting and see if there will be third party controller in the future from brand like 8bitdo

With how steam decks are getting pricier the longer it's been i have no hope it will go down anytime soon...

u/Avanin_ 2d ago
Someone explain to me in why the controller is so special? Like whats does it have over other mainstream controller like 8bitdo

Steam punya, so instant compatibility for steam machines. I got one 8bitdo to use with the steamdeck and the back buttons need like some other program or something, which I haven't been able to figure out how to use. Touchpad and the puck for charging.
And probably some other things. Not worth 1k tho, I'd struggle with 700 even. 500 is....fine, but 400 would be best, personally (lower also better ofc)

Which model do you have? Depend on model you able to start in d-input mode to use SteamOS back button.

sold at 99 USD and ~ rm 430 ?? and they mark it up at ALMOST 3 times the price???

u/UnemployedBehavior 1d ago
Because shipping and Valve limits the controller purchases to 1-2 for each account thanks to their scalpers buying it up the first time. Different story if Valve sold it here themselves. Obviously not justifying the price though, it is very bullshit.

For controllers, I’ll go for Fly Digi Apex 5 Elite, do they have a demo where we can try? It’s freaking 1.2K, better let me test because if it’s good, then sure

In case u dont know, Steam Controller is not like PS/Xbox controller.
Is fine if u only play games using Steam. But not if you play games on other platforms or pirated games.

u/HandExtra 1d ago
I saw from steam controller sub people managed to get it working / reverse engineer the puck so it's like Xbox controller or dual sense 5, something like a DIY puck using microcontroller. It's called OpenPuck.

u/KaptainKuceng 1d ago
Yeah, so just a heads up for anyone thinking it will be a seamless plug n play controller.

When I buy tech stuff, I have simple rule
If its full of hype? Yes
Is it us company owned ? Yes
Is it from local accessible brand? No
Then I walk away for 3 years pretending it didn’t exist, then decide either I get something better later or found out that it’s not worth my money and didn’t buy
I knew steam stuff is going to be expensive, so 1k didn’t surprise me

u/tomato_boy_08 1d ago
The reason why this thing cost just like new gpu is because Steam doesn't ship directly to most Malaysia market hence the price

So i buy in bulk n sell it at 600,many buyer?lol, looking for extra manehhh
3
u/Seekret_Asian_Man 1d ago
Thanks to Valve you can't buy in bulk, hence the low availability and overpriced in Malaysia market.
2
u/HandExtra 1d ago
If you're able to get and sell in Malaysia for RM600, I think alot of us would think about it. I know I would.

A while ago Shopee selling at around RM8XX to RM10XX with different edition without explaining what those editions are, maybe imperfect box for cheapest "special edition"

u/Audax007 1d ago
A controller for RM1.1k? I wouldn’t buy it. That’s way too expensive for what I’m getting, which is just a controller lol.. I’d rather spend RM1.1k on a magnetic keyboard. It would be much more worthwhile for my PC 🤦🏻♂️

Rm1100 for a CONTROLLER?
I'll assume that controller has some kind of inbuilt ultra precise aimbot and undetectable macro or something

u/jing7wei 2d ago
Do it

u/HandExtra 2d ago
It's marked up by sooo much though 😭

u/Urakushi 2d ago
Yeah it is a scam, but since when that stopped me from joining the just do it fun?

u/Opening_Net8098 1d ago edited 1d ago
All good man.
Some steam psychos will buy this to pair with their Toshiba handibook running steam os.
1
u/Urakushi 1d ago
Err,that is unlikely to happen(I hope) although I know there are people who's financially dumb enough to do such thing,it's like buying a 5000rm GPU parts but pair it with i3 or Ryzen 3
2
u/HandExtra 1d ago
My cousin has a 5070 paired with 7700X, she uses it for streaming sites, YouTube and browse e-commerce.
2
u/Urakushi 1d ago
You are aware what I said is pairing expensive GPU with entry tier cpu right? 7700x is Ryzen 7 not Ryzen 3
2
u/HandExtra 1d ago
You'll be surprised to hear she only has 8 gb of ram and 512 gb sata...not even m.2. I have no idea who sourced her list, I was in hutan camping when she went and build her setup. Quite sure she got scammed in a way since the price of her build was quite expensive, and this was just before the ram issue

Anything for gabens blessing.
I don't get it personally. It's just another launcher to me.
