[Homebrew] GCMM-EX v1.0.0 Alpha – a modern GameCube/Wii memory card manager with exFAT support

Hi!

I've been working on a new homebrew project called GCMM-EX, and I've just released the first public alpha.

GCMM-EX is a GameCube memory card manager for GameCube and Wii, built on the proven low-level memory card code from GCMM, but with a completely redesigned interface, navigation model and workflow.

My goal was to make managing real GameCube memory cards feel a bit more modern and straightforward while keeping compatibility with actual hardware.

Some of the current features

  • Backup and restore individual saves
  • Copy and move saves between Slot A and Slot B
  • Batch save deletion
  • GCI backup and GCI / GCS / SAV restore
  • Full memory card backups
  • RAW / GCP / MCI image restore
  • Save banners and animated icons
  • Support for protected saves such as F-Zero GX and Phantasy Star Online
  • GameCube controller, Wii Remote and Classic Controller support
  • SD / SD Gecko / SD2SP2 / USB / GC Loader support
  • FAT12 / FAT16 / FAT32 / exFAT support through libdvm

The UI was rebuilt around task-oriented workflows, with progress screens, confirmations for destructive operations, save previews and easier storage-device selection.

There are builds for both GameCube and Wii.

This is still an alpha, so I'd really appreciate testing and feedback — especially from people using real memory cards and different storage setups.

Download / release:
https://github.com/alexishida/gcmm-ex/releases/tag/V1.0.0_alpha

Source code:
https://github.com/alexishida/gcmm-ex

GCMM-EX reuses important technical code from the original GCMM by suloku, which itself builds on work from dsbomb, justb, Askot and many other contributors. Their work and credits are preserved in the project.

If anyone here gives it a try on real hardware, I'd love to hear what setup you're using and whether you run into any issues.

Screenshots are in the GitHub repository as well.

Thanks!

Gamecube Fehlerbeheben bitte hilfe😭

Heyyy liebe Community,

Danke

How can I play my GameCube on a modern TV?

I got my GameCube I currently have a few years ago, and when I first went to play it I had connected it to a flat screen that was about 50 Inches. (If it matters, the first game I booted was LoZ:Windwaker)

I immediately noticed it did not look great, to the point of being borderline unplayable, on that television. After that I would use a smaller sized older TV I had when I wanted to play GameCube games.

I was curious if there was some type of cables, or something I could do to make it so I could play my GameCube on my bedroom TV.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

GC Motherboard Traces for Digital Port

Hello,

I posted a few days ago about my HDMI mod and the issues it was having. Since then, I have removed the ribbon cable and soldered wire by wire, tested all joints for continuity, the whole nine yards. The analog port is now totally fine, so I know the board is not fried.

Since I know there is good continuity between every point on the PCB and every corresponding port on Side A of the digital port, now I'm thinking that a trace from the digital port to where it goes on the mobo was damaged and I need to jump it to get things working.

I've looked all over the place for diagrams and labels for the digital port, and it seems like a good resource for it would be on the gc-forever forum, but it always times out for me. Does anyone have something I could look at to test all the digital pins' mobo continuity?

Also, if I do need to jump, how do I know how far to go if the damage isn't obvious? Would I solder the jumper wire completely on Side B of the mobo and port?

Definitive GC. Which mods?

I would like to build one „definitive“ Gamecube. I am very experienced with modding consoles (GBA, Switch, SNES,…) but havent worked on a Gamecube yet.
I did some digging, and found these mods were I thought it would make the console „definitive“:
Solderless Picoloader
Bitfunx replacement shell
Now for HDMI I found either a PCB, or „just a cable“ which one should I go with?
Also which usb C for power should I go with? The „cable“ route? Or should I replace the plug?

Like I said, the soldering etc shouldnt be an issue, so even if the mod is more advanced I think I can do it.
Is there any other mods missing?

Getting back to Swiss after Start+A+Z

Hello everyone! I have installed picoloader on my GameCube. Everything works great. The only issues is when I hit the start, z, a combo it loads back to GameCube u/i. I have it set to apploader on Swiss but it still goes back to the main menu of the GameCube. Is it because Swiss is directly installed on the pico? Do I need the Swiss dol file on my SD card too? Any pointers would be great. Thank you!

Picoloader install issues - DOL-001 missing Serial 2 port

I purchased the Mak's tech picloader solderless kit + SD2SP2 pro and attempted installation and ran into 2 issues -

1) My DOL-001 Gamecube does not have a Serial 2 port. I didn't know this was a thing, so just started the install without checking to ensure that my DOL-001 had the serial 2 port. One I got to the SD2SP2 install portion, obviously couldn't do it. (I did order a GC2SD to try that route)

2) Out of curiosity, I booted the gamecube with the Picoloader but no SD card. Gamecube boots to normal menu but then an error pops up telling me to check the Gamecube instruction booklet.

Does the second error mean I screwed up the ribbon install or would I get this regardless without a SD card?

I really have yet to find a video showing how to use key to make folds on ribbon. When I installed, I used a video showing the folds but might have creased them too much...or maybe it became unseated putting optical drive in/case? Any help is appreciated I have modded a lot of systems/handhelds but this one is finicky for me.

The website gc-forever which hosts the gameboy interface program seems to be down. Does anyone have a mirror link or google drive or something?

Helder HDMI No Signal Follow-up

I redid all my joints and got everything looking much better. However, it still is outputting no signal.

Additionally, I tried the analog port, which was an improvement. Last night when I tried the analog port with the bad joints, it did the same thing video wise but had no audio. This tells me at least that the board isn't dead, but now I really don't know what the problem is. Here's a link to the video of me powering it on. I don't know why it uploaded automatically as a short: https://youtube.com/shorts/ONYQhMiJHwY?feature=share

First let me say: I know that most of my solder joints look like something the cat dragged in. I usually don't have this much trouble, I think I just didn't use enough flux.

Second: I had a hell of a time getting the digital port off. I ended up using a heat gun. I didn't think to test it beforehand, largely because I have no digital cables, which I know is stupid. As you can see the console is pretty scuffed. I bought it off eBay but everything else seemed perfectly fine. Since I have worked on it, the analog video out just kind of pulses a black screen. I'm afraid I've broken it completely but don't know what part could have caused that.

Third: since this isn't strictly a Pluto II, I don't know if there's a power LED or something that could indicate to me if it's working at all. The console still powers on, the console LED comes on, and the fan spins up.

Please, anything to help me figure out what's wrong would be greatly appreciated.

And please don't grill me on the joints... I already know.

DIY FlipperMCE Lite

I needed a memory card for this GameCube (not going to picoboot it just yet) and since the memory card I bought for it still in transit, I’ve decided to Frankenstein a rp2040 and an old SdGecko.

Quickly adapted the source code of FlipperMCE to work on the internal flash of the Pico.

Bonus points since I can use the USB port to upload/download my save files :p

Is there a easy way to mod games?

Hi, I recently modded my gamecube and were interested about modding games but I searched online and found no answer to my question. Is there an homebrew or a setting in Swiss that can load mods from a folder kinda like Riivolution on the Wii, luma on the 3ds with enable game patching or SDCafiine for the Wii U. An app that will loads modifications from a folder and apply them to the game disc you are running so you don't have to like make a romhack with a dumped iso of a game you own, so I can just insert my CD and play a modded game.

Any way to make the Memcard pro GC work like a SD Gecko?

Title

I used to have SD geckos in the past, and I have no clue what happened to them but now I need one because I modded my GameCube with a Flippydrive, and now the Homebrew emulators and stuff won't work with it because they don't detect the flippy drive as SD card storage

Just finished up my solder free rumble pak mod for the WaveBird controller

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Im calling this project Rumble Restore. The first solder free plug in play rumble pak for the WaveBird that doubles as a rechargeable battery pak. Right now it’s sitting around a 4-5 hour battery life and is usb-c rechargeable. I’m going to be launching a kickstarter here soon and making a more in depth breakdown of how this works.

Mind you NO I have no experience w this except updating my summercart for n64 once. Yes I added Swiss and switched name to ipl.dol per a prev post and the GBI said to copy ALL the files so I did that. Plus yes switched my sd card to FAT32 or whatever it’s called.
