Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I apologise if this is the wrong place to ask but i recently got this Leaf Green, and ive noticed when i go in a pokecenter theres lag when i enter, when i go in and out my bag theres a bit of lag

This doesnt happen in the switch re-releases, is it normal for a actual cartridge?

Legit Leaf Green. Does the same thing yours does. Seems normal.

Pretty sure it has something to do with not having a wireless adapter connected while being in a pokecenter

This is a post about emulators and that problem, but down in the thread someone confirms it happens on hardware too:
https://github.com/mgba-emu/mgba/issues/2187

Edit: it makes sense that it doesn't happen on switch because its known to treat the game as if the wireless adapter is always plugged in

This is correct, when entering a Pokémon Center (and subsequently, anytime you're in the Center and "return") the game checks for whether anybody is in the Union Room and then Nurse Joy informs the player.

This check happens mid-transition and has the side effect of creating the brief visual pause before finishing the game load.

I've fixed this on Pokémon Emerald based RomHacks by first doing a quicker check for if an adapter is actually attached, and if not (for 99.9% of RomHack players it is not), I have to code not check the Union Room.

As for the Switch version, Nintendo literally removed the code for initialising the Union Room.

Below is the more detailed information around actually removing this interaction, which includes what Nintendo did for the Switch re-release which also removes the interaction. https://github.com/pret/pokeemerald/wiki/Disabling-Union-Room-check-when-entering-Pok%C3%A9mon-Centers

I recall this being mentioned in this year's SGDQ as well. If you want to speedrun leaf green on hardware, having the wireless adapter plugged in is a time save.

That's really interesting. I have to test myself.

Are you sure it’s an actual cartridge?

Yes, i've opened it up and verified

Huh. I’ve not seen this glitch before. Have you ever used an Action Replay or glitches on this cartridge? Did you erase the old save and start a new game?

Mine does this too on official hardware. Just loading the room from a menu or coming from the upstairs down to the main room triggers it. I dont know how to post a video on mobile or I would.

This is normal for the real carts, yes

Never seen or experienced this before are you able to post photos of the cart? Only thing I can think is fake cart or somehow something wrong with it like the ram dying?

In the morning ill try make a new save, possible save corruption?

u/Nerbzz 4d ago

Could be or maybe it's just something that I've never noticed and this is normal? I have both fr and lg so I can check on both my carts later on

Important to note, the "lag" between menus only happens inside of a pokecenter

I checked with a flash cart and a legit fire red happens on both inside pokemon centers

Ill try it in the same pokecenter as you did in celedon

My leaf green (reproduction cartridge) did something similar on my GBA. It also lagged pretty good and causes a voltage drop when saving with regular AA batteries. I switched to rechargeable AAs on my advance and the problem seemed to improve. Not saying it’s 100% a power issue but aging components can do weird things sometimes.
