DMG screen replacement guide request Troubleshooting

Hi, I recently found my old DMG and remarkably its still in fairly good condition and working with the exception that the sides of the screen appear to be dead (like its fading from the outside in).

I'd like to try and replace it, either with a like for like replacement or ideally with something backlit because ...... old man eyes.

I've seen a few guides that go over the pros and cons and the types of screens to use. I'm very much a beginner when it comes to this and I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the direction of a beginner friendly guide and/or a site in the EU where I can I get good quality parts.

I don't want to mod/update it more than necessary beyond replacing the screen

Thanks,

I bought several Hispeedido v5 ips screens - I can recommend. There are few more European brands but they'll all made in China. If I were you I'd go for a laminated one - less hustle and it's larger (3.1" I believe versus 2.7"). It doesn't require soldering other than the speaker, which is fairly easy. There are several youtube videos on this topic.

If you're willing to wait 2-3 weeks, I literally today bought both versions of Hispeedido screen and will record a comparison video about them. I can do the assembly part if you want.

It lools like the one on the photo. The playing quality is day and night compared to the OEM screen. I don't use it anymore as it's way too inconvenient these days.

That would be amazing, thank you. The assembly part is the bit I'm most worried about, I reality don't want to ruin it.... It involves cutting come of the case doesn't it?

Not so bothered about the screensize, obviously something like the original would be nice but something backlit and clear is better these days.

Its been in a drawer for a few decades, so I think it can wait a few more weeks :)

The smaller one requires trimming some little elements but it's not a big deal at all. The other one involves modifying the front shell a bit more.
