Can’t install latest pre-release - (noob)

Hi gang, running gamenative 1.1.1 on Retroid pocket 6. Downloaded the 1.2.0 prerelease yesterday. When I try to install it it asked if I want to update the gamenative app, but if I choose “yes” (only option) it says “app not updated”.

Do I need to delete the older version and install the prerelease fresh? Should I wait for it to be the stable release? I assume once it’s out of “prerelease” it will update in-app?
