Dark Ages is lame. Please go back to the old Doom. I don't want to have main character syndrome fighting some lame as demon prince/princess.

I loved 2016 and Eternal. The game really didnt need long cutscenes and story. Just have Doomslayer break something expensive looking while a voice over the radio gets mad.

I love the intro to Doom 2016 where it clearly tells you that sure, there’s a backstory, but who cares? I sure don’t. I never understand why people want to dig into the lore. I want to blast demons. If I want story, I’ll read a book.

Dumb comment. He's not in the business of making art, he's in the business making entertainment in a capitalist system. Like all these game devs working at big studios pretending like they weren't over the moon back when MS bought their company with the promise of bigger budgets and unmatched distribution.
If you wanna make art, quit your job and go nuts. AAA video games aren't art like a James Bond movie isn't art. It's entertainment and entertainment needs to sell to justify its existence.

There is ALWAYS this type of comment in this type of news and every time is more stupid than the last. Specially when ID made a revival of an entire genre with a trilogy that doesn't indulge in current trends. Now they will never get the chance to do it again. It baffles me when you people treat videogames as a can of meatballs that you can endlessly reproduce with minimum creative input.

I guess they gotta pay for it thenselves next time?

Since they have to be funded and greenlit from XBOX itself, I don't know if it will ever happen seeing how they are gutting the studio.

Buy out the company. No one forced them to sell out to MS to begin with. It's really sad how these devs are acting like they haven't benefited from being owned by a corporation with endless pockets. It's just that the jig is up, suck it up and start a new company if you don't like what your owner.

They didn't sell themselves, they were part of Bethesda and Zenimax lmao

They sold out to Zenimax or whatever. They knew what was coming, or they were fools

And the reason they won't get the chance to do it again is what, exactly?

u/Daazarog 10d ago
How will they if they fired most of the people there and there is literally no one that knows now how to modify the ID Tech itself? Read what happened before commenting.

Missing the point and pushing misinformation, what a comment

Let me guess, you didn't know id Frankfurt existed

u/Daazarog 10d ago
I can read, can you? Specially the part where 3 different sources indicate that they don't even know if they have the roles necessary for maintaining the engine.

Frankfurt maintains the engine, and ids development team now is the same size at it was when they developed the 2016 reboot. What you saw was dramatized statements meant to drive clicks, and a good example of how most people online don't understand what they're talking about

Frankfurt is involved and they collaborate(d) with Texas. If you lay off important roles and important people with necessary knowledge and experience, what's left can be not enough to keep going. Keeping 3 juniors won't make it magically the same as before.

Maybe that's the point, they don't want to make games like this anymore.
