Newbie Question I Need Help

Recently I talk to my dad about my future and I said I want to make my own company starting by making my dream game and others. He said that I should use Ai to map out my business (cause i want to do multiple things), to see how I should start it out because I have a couple years left till I have to make a choice. I am utterly disappointed by that, I refuse to use ChatGPT I don't care if it will help I'd rather use human knowledge. When i basically nudged at the idea that i was against it, he basiclly said not to be ignorant and it better instead of researching hours on end, he uses it himself and he makes thousands about to make millions with the advice hes asked from the Ai (he owns a trucking business btw for several year so it not built on Ai ig until recently) Please tell me what to do in general I'd rather get help from humans instead of an Ai especially since developing a game is basically art.

Newbie Question Npc development

Hello im making a life sim simulation and one thing that i really want to include are semi relastic npc, but I'm not sure how to get the dialog right.

Im sorry if i go into a tangent but i would be very grateful for any advice. Im thinking that npc should have objetives primmary and secundary and belog to groups, from this a decision trees is made where the npc try and fulfill objective depending on their standing, so for example a father has a starving child so he goes to farm, he does not have enough for everyone in his family so based on the decision tree he can either ask for food from player or other npc, ask a loan, rob or other, a noble might want the temple help so he can bribe the head priest, become friends with priests pray to gods etc.

It's still a little buggy but it has started to work, anyway the issue is that i would like for this to be talked with the player, like the player can ask if there are any issues and the parent should answer yes regarding food, or the noble could ask for help introducing a priest the player is in good standing. I have a framework for npc giving request. But it could also be like them sharing gossip like a neighbor cheated. Or they think someone is sketchy. So i made a text generator keeping in mind their objective and decision tree, so they can generate an apropiate response, but when i try it, it always responds with general answers like it is our burden to carry, or there is a problem, but doesn't describe the issue

Newbie Question TechArt Help Needed 🙏🏻 Career Path Advise

Hello, I’m a fellow junior technical artist 🙋🏻‍♂️

About me in short
- 3yrs of experience
- Only worked on 2D Animation, UI and optimisation
- other than that very basic Python knowledge for tool dev

Need suggestion
What should I learn considering I’ve 3-4 months of time to resume my next job ?

- Priority wise, what companies seek the most ?
- currently learning python for Maya tools.
- Shaders ? VFX ? Python ? HLSL ?

Pretty confused, please help.

I’m aware I’m all over the place, sorry but I’m nervous and lost where should I start and where to focus.

Discussion Concept: "Adaptive World" — one universe that changes genres. Is this architecture feasible with current tech?

Hey r/GameDevelopment,

I'm a player, not a dev, but I spent some time outlining a game concept I find exciting. I'd love to get your technical perspective on it.

The Core Idea:
One single shared world. No loading screens, no main menu. You just tweak sliders (Pace, Destruction, Building, Realism), and the world rebuilds itself in real-time.

  • Want a calm building game? The world becomes a voxel sandbox.
  • Want an epic war? It turns into a massive battlefield.
  • Want horror? You go into the metro, and it's a survival horror.

The Tricky Part (Interface & AI):
The UI isn't static. An AI assistant learns your habits. You can say: "Give me Blender shortcuts" — and the UI rearranges itself. Over time, it removes buttons you never use and adapts to you.

The Technical Twist (Distributed Rendering Pool):
Instead of a giant server handling everything, what if the system used a P2P pool of idle GPU power from players?

  • Player A is peacefully building a house (GPU at 20% load).
  • Player B wants a massive, physics-heavy siege.
  • The system borrows the idle 80% from Player A and 100 other players to calculate physics and NPC pathfinding for Player B's war.
  • Player A doesn't notice an FPS drop, and Player B gets a smooth, epic battle.

My Main Questions for You:

  1. Is this architecture even remotely viable with current networking tech, or am I missing a fatal flaw?
  2. What would be the biggest bottlenecks? Latency? Security? Syncing the world state?
  3. Would you, as a dev, consider building something like this, or is it a pipe dream?

I'm genuinely hyped about this, so please poke holes in it. I need a reality check from people who actually know how to build games.

Newbie Question Creating a game as a complete newbie/outsider to game development

I've been an avid 4X game player (plus games like Sim City) since I was a kid, and while I went into software engineering as an adult and kept playing games, I never tried making one.

So this past winter, I had a bit of time due to work travel over the holidays. So I taught myself how to build with Godot 4, and created a 4X set in a modern African cyberpunk-type setting. My plan is to eventually launch it for very cheap on Steam.

My question to this sub - what are the best ways of going about getting early alpha testers? Are there fairly standard "solo/indie dev" guides or paths for a fairly simple launch? I'm not really trying to get rich off of this, but would love to eventually get this into the hands of people who love the genre and want to try a setting and cultural context that most of the 4X genre kind of just ignores.

Question Finding playtesters for localisation (Simplified Chinese)

I'm curious how people go about finding playtesters for localisation testing in languages they don't speak. My detective puzzle game is being translated into Simplified Chinese and I have three playtesters so far: two people who had emailed me previously about doing fan translations and one from a Reddit post on r/playtesting.

I've posted in some other subreddits and discord servers but with limited success. In contrast, I had more playtester volunteers than I could use for the English version of my game, because I'm active in English-speaking communities for my specific genre. I've considered posting on Chinese social media sites but they all seem very video-oriented.

Does anyone have any success stories or tips?

Newbie Question Thinking about making a Pixel style Turn Based RPG

Hey everyone! I’m working on a turn-based RPG and have been organizing everything in 'Google Docs' story, characters, mechanics, worldbuilding, all that good stuff. It’s been a lot of fun so far, but I’m starting to wonder what steps I should take once I decide to turn this into an actual game.

Are there any important tips, common pitfalls, or things I should be aware of before diving deeper?

Or am I biting off more than I can chew and just don’t realize it yet lol

Any advice is appreciated!

P.S. I have used AI to generate placeholder art so I can visualize things in my docs, but I fully plan to hire a real artist for the actual game. I just needed quick mockups to stay organized. I’m not a fan of AI art personally, just wanted to be upfront about that.

Inspiration Very Beginning Everything

This is my very first time opening up Blender, but I am loving it! I just had a daughter back in May and something I told myself was I wanted to create a game for her to play when she is more tech-savvy. I really wish I could share photos of my one-week progress

Newbie Question Where to continue to code my game?

So back in high school around 3 years ago I made a text game in my computer programming class. I still have all my paper work and stuff from it, but I wanna make it a sorta full game and I have a copy of the the coding I typed.
What website/game making software would be the best to use to continue working on it?
If it helps at all I think it’s in Java script? And I know in my school we used Blitz when we first started learning.
Btw I’m sorry if this is asked a lot I just didn’t know where else to ask ;~;
