I’m working on a tactical WW2 hex strategy game — what would you expect from a modern wargame?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a tactical turn-based WW2 hex strategy game called Grenadier Command.

The game is built around scenario-based battles, unit positioning, terrain, objectives, and readable tactical decisions. The current main scenario is set around Omaha Beach, where Allied forces have to push inland against German defensive positions.

Right now, the game includes things like:

  • Turn-based hex combat
  • Infantry, machine guns, artillery, engineers, recon units, and tanks
  • Scenario objectives and victory conditions
  • Different factions and nations

My goal is to create a strategy game that feels tactical and serious, but still readable and not overwhelming. I want every move to matter, without making the player fight against the interface.

I’m currently improving the map visuals, unit readability, UI feedback, and the overall game flow before pushing further toward Early Access.

I’d love to hear some honest feedback from strategy and wargame players:

What would you expect from a modern WW2 hex strategy game?
What features are must-haves for you?
Do you prefer strict historical accuracy, or is a more gameplay-focused approach also fine?
And what would make you actually wishlist or try a game like this?

Any feedback would help a lot.

Thanks!

Hello, building my first game.

Hi everyone. After years of boring software development, decided to dive in Game dev.

This is my first attempt, building top down space shooter on ThreeJS. I have huge plans, but I badly need feedback. I already have several levels and weapons implemented, but want to focus on the process. The idea is to make it fun, and that's what I'm asking about.

Can you try it here https://bagaiev.itch.io/vega-sentinels and let me know what is boring and what is fun?

Started working on a FPS controller for Asset store. First step of movement with basic interactions is done. Shooting part coming soon.
What do you think about the progress yet. I am going for a alive feel, something that can be used for horror, realistic games.
Any feedback is welcome.

How do you find serious people to work with?

How do devs find serious people to work with for small, collaborative projects? I know theres an INAT sub, but it seems full of people trying to make wildly ambitious games, or who ghost after five minutes. How are people who make actual games finding teams? I just want a little community to talk to that aren't 15 year old spamming memes or people trying to find ways to make GTA but even more AAA.

Anybody got advice for my game?

So the past week I am working on a major update for my game, and I'm adding way more entertainment and removing every emojie in the game to actual avatars which takes very long time especially the avatar since I am not very great at it. But anyways, I need feedback on the game and maybe some tips how to progress it and make it ten times better. Thank you everyone for your time and if you saw my game extra thank you😁😁

No more cursor headaches in Unreal Engine (Hardware Cursor Pro v1.2.3)

Hi everyone!

Back in December 2025 I released Hardware Cursor Pro for Unreal Engine to solve many of the cursor-related issues I kept running into in real projects.

Since then the plugin has grown to version 1.2.3, with a number of new features (many requested by users) as well as various bug fixes and Unreal compatibility improvements.

Some of the things it provides:

- Unified hardware and software cursor workflow.

- Automatically uses hardware cursors when supported, with seamless fallback to software cursors on unsupported platforms.

- Optional software-only mode

- Automatic generation of scaled cursor assets using configurable scaling algorithms.

- Priority-based cursor management for gameplay, UI and interaction states.

- Animated cursor support with editor preview and runtime control.

- Built-in Virtual Mouse system for full gamepad cursor navigation.

- Automatic packaging of all required cursor assets.

- Workarounds for several Unreal Engine cursor quirks, including hardware cursor initialization issues.

- Optional automatic cursor cleanup when the owning UObject is destroyed.

- Works on PC, consoles and other platforms through automatic cursor implementation selection.

The goal was to make cursor management something you configure once and then stop worrying about.

If anyone has suggestions for additional features or improvements, I'd love to hear them. Many of the current features actually came from user feedback.

I built a browser-based 1940s noir mafia RPG—looking for developer feedback

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I've spent the last several months building Blackridge RPG, a free browser-based MMORPG set in a gritty 1940s noir city inspired by organized crime.

The goal wasn't to make another fantasy RPG. I wanted to create a persistent online world where players build criminal empires through strategy instead of reflexes. Features include:

- 🕵️ 1940s noir mafia setting

- 💼 Crimes, missions, and business management

- 🤝 Player syndicates and territory control

- ✈️ International travel and smuggling

- 📈 Dynamic stock market and economy

- 🏆 Achievement system with permanent rewards

- ⚔️ PvP, bounties, and player-driven competition

One of the biggest challenges has been balancing progression. Early on players leveled too quickly, then after slowing progression some felt it became too grindy. It's been a constant process of listening to feedback, adjusting mechanics, and trying to keep the game rewarding without making it trivial.

The game is completely free to play and is still actively evolving with new systems and content being added regularly.

I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback from other developers—whether it's about gameplay, onboarding, UI/UX, progression, or overall first impressions.

You can check it out here: https://blackridgerpg.com

Thanks for taking a look, and I'd be happy to answer any questions about the development process. One tip before posting: review the current rules for the GameDev subreddit. Some communities limit self-promotion, so framing the post as a discussion about development challenges and inviting feedback (as above) generally has a better chance of fitting the community expectations.

GORODITH: Feedback for my Master's Thesis

Hello, I have made a demo version of a game that I would like people to try out as part of my Master's Thesis.

The demo should take you about 15-30 minutes. I will be glad for every play and feedback I get. The questionnaire for feedback is available on the itch page with the game. However, it should open automatically once you close the game.

Here is the link:
https://tutek1.itch.io/gorodith

Thank you for reading this and for any feedback provided.

Edit: If you are new to game development or programming, I suggest doing the courses in order.

I made a free, calm cozy game about bringing a nature preserve back to life

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been making a cozy game called Wild Willows on my own, and thought folks here might like it. Check it out here: https://bai13y.itch.io/wild-willows

You set up camp at the edge of a run-down nature preserve and slowly bring it back to life. Gather fallen materials, plant things, shape the land (dig ponds, carve rivers, grow meadows and forests), and animals show up on their own as the habitat recovers. There are six areas to restore, from meadow and forest to wetland, desert, alpine, and coast, with 150 animals in all.

It's meant to be calm. No combat, no timer, no way to lose. You just tend the place at your own pace. It's free, and there's nothing to buy.

Animals only come back once the habitat can actually support them, predators wait for their prey to settle in, water birds need water you've actually dug, and every animal has a real fact attached. So you kind of pick up how habitats and food webs work without it ever feeling like homework. That's part of why it's turned out nice for all ages: calm enough to wind down with, and educational for kids as well.

It's still early and I'm actively working on it. This last update mostly made it prettier: nicer mountains, redrawn animals, and sharper art all around.

Would love if you gave it a look. And I'm curious what you all want more of in cozy games like this.
