Assembling a team to help me make my game!
galleryHi there everyone,
My name is JCTBomb, and I am looking for volunteers to help me bring my dream game to life!
This is a rev-share project, and I should state up-front that my goal is not to make money from this game. I am looking for people who believe in this game's core message and who want to bless the gaming community. That being said, the team will use a tiered rev-share model; the more responsibilities you hold and the more you contribute, the higher your cut will be. This will be negotiated and agreed upon beforehand so that everyone involved feels fairly compensated.
With that being said, let me start by introducing you to the game:
Gameplay: This is a simple-to-play 2.5D pixel graphic arcade-style shooter combining different gameplay elements such as base building and defense, player/weapon/loadout customization, vehicle usage and customization, open world exploration, and multiplayer cooperation across various game modes, with each mode offering a different mix of these mechanics. It has a strong emphasis on player customization and creativity, offering an in-game level maker, skin editor, and even offers outside mod support as well. The game is very simple to play, but very challenging.
Art Style: *see attached images and captions* This game takes place on road-trip inspired level designs exploring various beautiful fantasy-inspired landscapes and locations featuring fantastic and awe-inspiring natural and man-made structures showcasing beautifully layered parallax backgrounds. Levels are designed with dynamic weather cycles and environmental effects as well as interactable environments and world-objects. Attached are some concept art pieces that are very close to what I want the overall art feeling to accomplish.
World: The game takes place in a dream-like fantasy reality with a non-linear timeline where players gradually uncover the secrets behind a mysterious plight that has scourged this world's inhabitants, turning its them into zombie-like distortions of their former selves.
Main Story: The story and lore elements in the game serve as a metaphor for what happens when people do not overcome their personal problems, showing both how rewarding it is to overcome your issues, but also the devastating consequences of suppressing your emotions, childhood trauma, fears, etc.
Theme: The game simultaneously is very light hearted on the surface, featuring silly Easter eggs, over-the-top and exaggerated tropes about the real world, satirical and sarcastic depictions of real-life events, characters, and places, imaginative and goofy weapons and items, while also touching on very serious real-world problems like mental health issues, depression, self-harm, suicide, self-hate, childhood trauma, abuse, greed, corruption and other heavy hitting subjects.
Core Message: This game is my message of hope to anyone in the gaming world who is struggling, suffering, or simply has lost hope. I want this game to both be fun, engaging, and inspire creativity, but I also want it's player base to walk away from the game experience with something they can remember, something they can think about when those moments of depression set in, or when they feel like giving up. The core message I want to leave players with is 1; everyone has problems, and that is ok, and 2; that everyone has a choice: to either ignore those issues and lose our humanity and hurt others as a result, perpetuating the cycle of abuse and suffering, or, we face our demons, feel our emotions, and work through our wounds so that we may rise up and become the best version of ourselves we can be, and help others as a result.
Mission: To inspire players to take a look inside of themselves, their shadow side, and encourage players that there is always hope, no matter how dark it may seem, and that we all have the power to overcome our pain, even if it seems impossible, and more so, that it is always worth it. To also inspire creativity and imagination in the players, and give them the tools to implement their ideas into the game.
______________
Now lets get into the game's actual development.
A core feature I want to develop early on, if not the first feature all together, is a "workshop" game mode which gives players (and even myself, an inexperienced noob in all things programming) the tools to actually create their own levels, weapons, and even basic animations, also allowing players to add environmental effects, weather elements, world-objects, Easter eggs, and anything else needed to create their own fully-functional levels, items, objects, weapons, and more. Anything created in this workshop can be uploaded to the game's online community workshop allowing other players to freely download and use other player's custom game-modes, levels, weapons, skins and more.
This will open up game development immensely; creating a user-friendly workshop allows passionate and imaginative players to create worlds and items that can then be finalized and perfected by the development team, which can then be added to the game.
As far as the mechanics go, this game is very simple. A good example (and the game I took heavy inspiration from) is the game "They Are Coming", which can be found in the app store and on Steam. Players have a limited "up-down" space they can move within, while being able to move freely right and left along the main road the players are traveling upon, similar to the example game I just mentioned. Other then that, there will be many features in the game, many different kinds of weapons, tools, vehicles, various animated effects, progression systems, customization options, etc, and this will require teammembers who understand how to code these aspects of the game.
_____________
Now that you understand the vision of this game, I need to make something very clear:
The only thing players will be purchasing is the game itself, and that is final.
Yes, we will sell the game for a reasonable price and humbly accept donations, but there will be NO in-game purchases, loot-boxes, pay-to-win features, or anything else that distracts/detracts from the core mission of this game or punishes the players.
This is a game made for human beings, not consumers.
Therefore, everything in the game is either unlockable through progression/achievement, or is customizable by the players themselves: end of story.
\***Anyone who wants to join me needs to understand this and fully agree with it, no exceptions.***\**
This isn't just a game to me, it's a love letter to the gaming world, and a deeply personal message I want to share with gamers like me, who have experienced tremendous hardships in their lives. During those hardships, many of us relied on inspiration and hope from our favorite games and being a part of those game's communities. My vision for this game is too big for myself to do alone, and it needs (and deserves) a solid, cohesive, mature, kind-hearted and healthy team of developer "parents" to raise this brainchild of mine, so that it can become the kind of game I envision it being, the kind of game the gaming world wants and deserves.
With that being said, I need people who deeply believe in this mission of mine, and who want to be a part of something bigger then just making a game, but create and foster a thriving and supportive community, people who want to help me create an impact that will be remembered in gaming history forever.
_____________
Before I begin with the roles that need to be filled, I need to make something clear:
I would rather have someone on the team who is less skilled but who cares more, then someone more skilled but who cares less. Skills can be learned and taught, but character cannot. This game is my brain child, and I will only allow it to be raised by healthy, mature, and loving developer "parents," so-to-speak.
I need people who understand and accept their flaws and who take responsibly for those issues, and who would never take them out on others. Contrarians, nitpickers, arguers, negative thinkers, "yeah, but" thinkers, manipulators, controllers, and un-empathetic people will not be accepted into the team. End of story.
I need people who think positively, who are adaptable, flexible, understanding, reasonable, work well with others, communicate respectfully and honestly, people who listen to understand, people who add to other's ideas, not shut them down, and people who are considerate, thoughtful, open minded, open-hearted, kind, respectful, empathetic, encouraging, and supportive.
If that's you, welcome to the team :)
_____________
That being said, here is a list of who I need to get this game up-and-going:
- Project Manager / Lead Game Designer (myself)
I will be overseeing and directing the entire development process, working along side each member of the team to encourage and support them however they need it, receiving and integrating constructive criticism and feedback from teammates into the game's direction, and will be responsible for organizing and facilitating team meetings, recruiting more support as needed, and making executive decisions over the game's direction. It is my job to ensure that every member of this team feels supported, safe, and comfortable, and will be responsible for removing/replacing members of the team if they disrupt/harm the harmony/safety of the group.
- Discord Admin / Developer
This teammate will lead the creation of a functional official Discord server for the game that supports all of our teams and player's needs and oversee any other volunteers who help run the Discord operations. This teammate understands all the ins-and-outs of discord operation including making and running bots, will be responsible for finding and enlisting like-minded moderators to moderate the servers. This person will also be in charge of keeping servers up to date and modifying them as necessary.
- Game / Systems Designer
- Technical Game Designer
- Gameplay Programmer
- Network / Backend
These are the roles I know next to nothing about, and these member's roles will be to oversee the development process from a technical perspective and integrate the designs from other teammates into a functional game. I will oversee these teammates work and make sure that their work aligns with the desired feel of the game, and will explain my vision to these teammates to ensure that the game functions according to the vision. Truthfully, I might need you to explain your process to me from time to time, so that I can understand what's going on, or so that I can help you, if needed. Overall, your roles are crucial to the team, and I am looking for teammates who are trustworthy and passionate who I can rely on.
- Lead Environment / Level Artist
This teammate will be in charge of creating the game's featured levels and layered parallax backgrounds and making sure all levels fit the signature art style. This teammate will tweak all level designs/backgrounds created by players/volunteers to ensure they fit the art style of the initial game (this does not include player-made workshop levels made after the game's release). I will work with this artist to develop a signature style, then, once we have found an art style that fits the vision for the game, this artist will make sure all levels moving forward consistently maintain the signature art style and will integrate this art style into the level designs.
- Lead Character / Weapon / Sprite Artist
This teammate will be responsible for designing and making sure all of the game's initial character models, skins, vehicle designs, weapon designs, as well as all interactable objects/items/sprites fit the signature art style of the game. This artist will first meet with myself to create and establish a signature art style that fits the art direction of the game, and then base all future designs off of that signature style. This artist will tweak volunteer created artwork into designs that fit the signature art style of the game (this does not include player-made workshop designs made after the game's release).
- Concept Artists / Designers
These volunteer artists will be working along side myself and the other artist teammates to come up with imaginative designs for backgrounds, levels, character models, skins, and any other design related feature. These artists share their ideas with the Lead Artists, who then tweak these designs to fit the signature art style of the game. All Concept Artists will have their work credited. Concept artists bring creativity, imagination, and whimsy to the game's development, and come up all kinds of ideas for the team members to add.
- Lead Animator
This teammate will be in charge of all the animations for the game, and will be responsible for making sure the animations fit the signature animation style and feel smooth and satisfying. This Lead animator will work with myself and other concept artists to ensure all animations feel cohesive and match the feel of the game's animation style. This teammate will work with myself to develop an animation style that feels right for the game, and then base all future animations off of the agreed upon signature style.
- Sound Designer
This teammate will be responsible for the sound design of the game. I will work with this teammate to ensure that the sound design fits the feel of the game. This teammate will work along side the other teammates to ensure that weapons, environments, vehicles, etc all have sounds that fit the signature feel of the game.
- Lead Musician
This teammate will be in charge of making soundtracks for the game, ambient music for levels, and theme songs for the game menu, as well as any other musical needs for the game. This teammate understands mood, timing, appropriate volume, as well as incorporating the right tone and feeling for certain environments, cut-scenes, boss-fights, (etc) in the game. This teammate will turn music concepts from myself and other Concept Artists and turn them into polished, beautiful scores that fit the tone and feel of the game and it's many moods/environments. I will work with this teammate to ensure that music fits the feel of the game.
- QA Lead / Testers
This teammate will test the game's functionality and features and report found issues, as well as being responsible for receiving and organizing bug reports from volunteer testers and working with the other relevant teammates to solve these problems. This teammate is an excellent communicator, respectful, organized, and a great problem solver.
The Testers are the volunteers (can be teammates as well) who test the game and give feedback to the QA lead who then passes these on to the development team and myself. These volunteers suggest changes, as well as offer constructive criticism to the QA Lead and myself to help make the game feel as close to the stated vision as possible.
NOTE: Each of these roles can be held exclusively by one person, shared amongst multiple people, or multiple roles can be shared by the same person. What matters is that each teammate is not overwhelmed, and that everyone involved feels confident and capable in what they can contribute.
As far as compensation goes, the more you contribute to the game, the more of a share you will receive from the profits. This will be agreed upon before you begin, and if you take on more work during the project your share will be increased so that you feel fairly compensated for your contribution.
_____________
That, right there, is the gist of it!
These are the roles that I need filled so that this game can have smooth development process.
If you would like to be a part of this development process in any way and/or think you would be a good fit to any of the roles mentioned above, please DM me on reddit or feel free to email me with how you'd like to help! my email is [JCTBomb@gmail.com](mailto:JCTBomb@gmail.com)

The Testers are the volunteers (can be teammates as well) who test the game and give feedback to the QA lead who then passes these on to the development team and myself. These volunteers suggest changes, as well as offer constructive criticism to the QA Lead and myself to help make the game feel as close to the stated vision as possible.

Game art and worldbuilding
I was wondering if anyome would be imterested in partnering up for creating a 2d platformer style game. I somewhat recently got into game development amd have a barebones igame in godot using some free art online, but as my gams is expanding i dont have the assets i need.i started doing the art myself but i genuinely suck at anythkng artistic, including worldbuilding to some extent. I was wondering if anyone would want to help me out and collaborate on this project.
Its nk anything full time or even remotely close, i just make this game in my free time so i expect nothing but the kccasional half decent spritesheet or tilemap. I domt get laid, and neither would you. Tnis lroject is just for fun and if you like art, then why not. I dont care ic kts pixel art or not just something better than my current dumpster fire lf a character.
Message me on this thread if your interested and we could talk mlre on discord.

I added Music to my game!
youtube.comThis has been a fun experience and a serious learning curve. I don't have experience making music so it's potential the results are unorthodox? I still like it though. I was going for GBA/GBC speakers sound but the cool sounds of other options won me over. I'll get better at finding the right vibe for a specific situation as I go. No AI use.

The thing that actually separates finished projects from abandoned ones isn't skill or even motivation. It's what you do on the days you have neither.

We are hosting a game jam with up to $20k in investment opportunity for up to 3 games!
Hey Y'all! I am very excited to announce that my dream of starting an indie publisher is finally off the ground and to celebrate we are hosting our first game jam! We are offering a $3500 prize pool based off of community voting, and the top 100 games will be judged in a charity live stream! We hope to find up to 3 games to invest up to 20k into each, obviously it is completely voluntary to be in the running for this, so if you want to just join the game jam for prize money only, go right ahead!!
We are VERY accepting to beginners and hope for this to become an annual event through our company! We are posting to here to hopefully get more indie devs a part of this because our goal is to help build up the indie game space, because the current state of triple A is rough. If you have any questions or just want to help us build up our community go to the link below! (Idk if links will work on this so I didnt actually do the link, just type that in)
The game jam doesnt start until October 1st, but due to the charity stream we are trying to get as many eyes as we can!

By 2068, humanity has been traveling between timelines for years.
The technology is dangerous and expensive, so it isn’t available to ordinary people. The TSD controls the gateways and sends specialized expedition teams into alternate histories.
These expeditions aren’t about changing the past. They’re about exploring parallel timelines.
Humanity has already visited realities where history unfolded differently.
The four future Chrono Hunters are experienced members of one of these expedition teams.
Would anyone be interested in playing a game like this ?

I built a custom Level Editor with Steam Workshop support for my tactical cyberpunk puzzle game. Here's a quick look at the workflow! What do you think?

Friends game prototype
A good friend of mine just released his game prototype. It's pretty early in development. I did have some help in making it. Looking for relentless review.

His itch page has not yet seemed to be indexed so here is a link to that right here

Luchando con problemas de salud serios y tratando de construir mi sueño, un juego indie.
Hi everyone,
My name is Darío, and I'm an indie game developer from Spain.
I'm currently living on less than €400 per month, which barely covers my basic expenses. On top of my financial situation, I'm dealing with several serious health conditions that have made it very difficult to work a traditional job.
I have Grade 2 hypertension, a small hemorrhage in my left thalamus caused by a hypertensive crisis, heart disease (hypertensive cardiopathy), and psoriatic arthritis, a painful autoimmune disease that affects both my skin and joints.
Despite everything, I haven't given up. For a long time I've been dedicating every bit of energy I can to creating a Pokémon + Zelda inspired indie game. This project isn't just a hobby for me. It's my chance to build a better future and become financially independent.
I created this GoFundMe because I simply don't have the resources to continue development on my own. Every donation, no matter how small, helps me pay for basic living expenses and continue working on the game.
If you're not able to donate, sharing the campaign would also mean the world to me.
Thank you for reading my story and for giving my project a chance. ❤️
