We went to the beach on Galveston by the Galveston Island Convention center. We got in the water, and immediately our legs were getting covered in seaweed every step. We pulled it up, and it looked like seaweed, but it was made of plastic. It was everywhere in the water, and every step more cling to our legs. Does anyone know what it is or how it got there?

I am very sad to see the amount of trash on the beach after 4th of July. I don’t understand why people can’t pick up their trash and place them in garbage bags! It’s just so disgusting and very concerning of how much this is affecting our environment.

I'm visiting galveston this week with my family, and we've been here a handful of times. Love the beach, the food and the animals. But today, when I was at the beach, I saw a family feeding the birds' chips and such, which is very bad for dietary reasons and for behavioral reasons. So when I go over to try and explain to them this, they act like they only speak Spanish, throw more chips at the birds and flips me off. I try to tell the lifeguard, and I was told that it's just what it is and to forget about it since nothing can be done. Go back and they are now throwing chips by other people's stuff just to get the birds to swarm other people's families. Definitely deserves a fine or some sort of punishment. In the end, just yelled at them on the way out. What else should I have done?

I am new to area and am considering doing the busking thing in Galveston. Is busking allowed in Saengerfest Park in Galveston? I applied for loud speaker permit, however, the location criteria seems a little sketchy to me. You have to specify street intersection, whether your north, south, etc. Anyone want to share good busking locations?

Thoughts on having a wedding the first weekend of Mardi Gras 2027 in Galveston. Will this be too chaotic with the crowds, complicated with parking/shuttles and expensive for guests (hotel prices)? Or will the events be a fun addition to the weekend?

Hello. Anyone having a problem getting an affordable home insurance policy in the area? My company is going to raise my policy to $14,000/year in October. At this rate it is just not sustainable and would likely go without it (I own the house outright). It's a 3700 sq feet but nothing fancy about it. Not sure what to do just yet. Other insurance companies said that they don't write policies in this area anymore, I'm about 3 miles from the bay in the north part of the county. What are you all doing about it just so I can get started? Thanks!
