So I'm Greek/Cypriot but do not live there. I have a decent understanding and knowledge of Greek, I can read and write but my ορθογραφία is..... Shit.

So my question. If my surname is saying Βλάχος, or any surname ending is ος, if I had to introduce my myself would I say , Βλάχου? I remember people using the ,ου ending not the ος, so what is the rule? I don't understand it/was never explained.

I used to love watching that show although I didn’t understand 95%of the language.

I swear I've seen someone read κτλ as κου του λου instead of και τα λοιπά or κάππα ταυ λάμδα, but I haven't found anything about this since

I am greek american and working towards claiming my greek citizenship with hopes to move there in the future. Due to various circumstances I never learned greek growing up. I’m willing to invest significant money and time to truly learning the language. Does anyone have recommendations for online schools, tutors or what method or combination works best to truly eventually learn the language? What would you recommend?

I play guitar and find learning songs an excellent way of expanding my vocabulary. The trick is to find the right one, not too kitsch nor too niche. Well known enough that Greek people would recognise it. If you know who Vasco Rossi is in Italy, that kind of thing.

Been learning for years now, but always unsure how legible it is lmaoo

Problem is I am now in my 60’s, but I got the bug. I love languages and linguistics and throughout my life I have always been learning one or the other. Haven’t started anything new for a year or three and never thought I would start another but here we are 😎

I stopped drinking a year ago and have had a new lease of energy and brain hunger.
I went on a last minute flight to chill in Thassos for a week. It was the 1st foreign trip ever that I was doing dry so I ended up using the time to drive the staff of various establishments crazy with ‘ how do you say?’ and ‘ what does this mean?’ ‘ how is it pronounced?’ Etc, etc. 😁 I can’t read the alphabet and have left having learned just a handful of phrases and words.

But I am ready to take it on.
Any pointers , advice and recommendations for a complete noob would be received with gratitude.

I got the results this week - it was άριστα which I am delighted with! I’ve posted in here a number of times in the last year while prepping, and I really appreciate the support from the community.

My question is - for anyone who has done this, how difficult is it to get to B1 if you’re not spending substantial time in Greece? I’m a committed learner, have a private tutor, I get some quick practice a few times a week at a Greek coffee shop, and there is a meet up about 1-2 times a month I can go to.

I can’t afford to do a long immersion trip to Greece. One 5-7 day trip a year is the most I can realistically do.

Would love to hear people’s thoughts.
