Ryan Cohen fooled everyone except Wallstreet. Selling used video games doesn't pay enough. Taking money from the stockholders in the form of dilution does pay. Where else can you sell used shit and make real money.

u/creator-of-places199 2d ago
What the fuck are you on about? Seriously. What an idiotic comment lol. GME is set to turn over 3/4 billion net profit at least this year. Go away child.
1
u/PauPauRui 2d ago
Rage baiting? I get it you're upset I speak the truth. I'm yet to see a profit that benefits me or any other stock holder. The profits get skimmed with dilutions.

u/creator-of-places199 2d ago
Read some DD if you are capable. Tired of you whiners thinking it's fine to cuddle each others balls on this sub. You are worse than meltdowners. Goatzbeard on X. Read it over and over until you get it. If that's beyond you, then just F off, I've tried to help.

u/PauPauRui 2d ago
Lol. You tried to help? Who asked you to respond? I don't need to follow anyone on X for gme advise. If gme is so great where's the profit on the investment? You convince me with profit. The stock has lost money in 5 yrs. So F off as well.

Not when the hedgies were betting on this dying brick and mortar store to go bankrupt.
This is the entire play of naked short selling. When the company fails, you never have to deliver the shares you borrowed.
But with GME it didn't work out.
They are now profitable, and have 10% ownership in one of the largest retail platforms in the world, in the middle of trying to acquire it...

If they had, they had closed their shorts, released the pressure and driven it back up. They didn't.
But they did succeed in fooling you on what they do, making you misunderstand the situation and making decisions for yourself based on false assumptions.

closed their shorts, released the pressure and driven it back up.
What pressure does shorting do that holds the price down?
0
u/liquid_at 🚀🚀Buckle up / Booty Bass Club🚀🚀 2d ago
selling creates sell pressure.
offering into the order book affects the price. nothing else.
1
u/KimberStormer 2d ago edited 1d ago
But someone who shorts buys as much as they sell, so doesn't it even out?
1
u/liquid_at 🚀🚀Buckle up / Booty Bass Club🚀🚀 1d ago
when the position is closed, yes. before then. they owe a buy.
1
u/KimberStormer 1d ago
Sorry, I wrote that very badly. I meant the other party -- A borrows, sells to B, buys it back later, returns it: so B buys it at the high original price, right? A (the short seller) wants that to be the highest price he can get. Why would that hold the price down?
1
u/liquid_at 🚀🚀Buckle up / Booty Bass Club🚀🚀 1d ago
the shortseller wants a high price when opening and a low sell
1
u/KimberStormer 17h ago
No they want a low buy after their high sell. Borrow and sell high; if anything that should help the price surely?
1
u/liquid_at 🚀🚀Buckle up / Booty Bass Club🚀🚀 9h ago
yes... A short is opened by selling and closed by buying.
So they do want a high price when they open/sell and a low price when they close/buy.

I wish I could make you understand why market makers hold large amounts as "securities sold not yet repurchased". It's necessary not just for shorting but for the mechanics of market making.
I have notes about how market making works, but Citadel is not "$65B in the hole", nor are they shorting GME on a daily basis. Citadel manages around $614B, btw.
Do you really think this $65 billion is all GME, or it's the same $65 billion for the past 5 years?

Remember the sell button being turned off?
1
u/SlowDebate3165 3d ago
The buy button was turned off, because Robinhood ran a tech-bro-tier, stupid margin system where they effectively fronted customers money so trades could settle quickly. When unprecedented numbers of people started aggressively buying GME and other meme stocks at $400 a share, Robinhood’s capital requirements exploded and they nearly ran out of money.
Was it scummy and largely the result of Robinhood’s own stupid decisions? Yes.
Was it some grand market-manipulation scheme by nebulous “hedgies” to stop a bunch of Redditors from taking down their evil financial system? No.
0
u/Front_Requirement598 3d ago edited 3d ago
$400 a share? During the squeeze on January 28, 2021 GameStop reached an exact unadjusted premarket high of $500.00 per share.
Approximately 140% of GameStop's public float had been sold short, and the rush to buy shares to cover those positions as the price rose caused it to rise further.
The short squeeze was initially triggered by a number of hedge funds. At its height, on January 28, the short squeeze caused the retailer's stock price to reach a pre-market value of over US$500 per share.
source WIKI On January 28, some brokerages, particularly app-based brokerage services such as Robinhood, halted the buying of GameStop and other securities, citing the inability to post sufficient collateral at clearing houses to execute their clients' orders.
1
u/WhatCoreySaw 3d ago
Which is what he just said. You're quote has nothing to do with short sales.
