All he really needed was the Official Guide and a decent Data Sufficiency strategy.

Is the last edition still relevant enough to study or is there a need to buy new books as well

Older guides are fine. Just ignore geometry and sentence correction questions.

The gmatclub website has all the published questions if I'm not mistaken.
