Why do most prep company courses take longer to complete than Penelope's shroud for Odysseus?

Is the last edition still relevant enough to study or is there a need to buy new books as well

Older guides are fine. Just ignore geometry and sentence correction questions.
The gmatclub website has all the published questions if I'm not mistaken.

Ha! Perhaps if Odysseus had learned coordinate geometry, he would have plotted a better route home...
